Clinify
The Problem: The lack of accessible & centralized medical records has resulted in poor personal health management of about 60-90% of Africans leading to a large number of preventable deaths as a result of self medication and/or wrong diagnosis based on poor medical history.
Our Solution: We are building a Health information management system that enable user populated and centralized medical records, allowing them to control and better understand their medical history, consult with professionals, order medication from the nearest licenced pharmacies and access affordable health insurance.
Solution Impact: About 95% of medical records are currently on paper in Nigeria and about 60% - 90% of Nigerians and Africans currently self medicate. So our solution gives them digitized access to their medical records and prescriptions which can be accessed via the users Clinify's ID anywhere in country or continent through or secured dashboard and it will be help curb fake medications.
The ability for patients and healthcare providers to share and track health records in one place or in a centralized repository with easy, instant access to healthcare information and convenient healthcare delivery with a focus on patient empowerment doesn't exist in Nigeria and Africa.
There are 72,000 doctors registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), compared with the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation of one per 600 people; only 35,000 practise outside the country. There is one doctor per 5,000 people and a deficit of over 260,000 doctors in Nigeria. There are two doctors to 200,000 people in Awe town, Nasarawa State, Nigeria.
Patient resort to abandonment of their health. According to National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the prevalence of self-medication from several Nigerian studies ranges between 60-90% among Nigerians. In 2018, 24,668 pharmacists were registered with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and this equates to 12 pharmacists per 100,000 members of the population pharmacist to population ratio of 1:8,317. There are 34423 health facilities. 11,395 (33%) are private health facilities and 23,028 (67%) are government health facilities. In total, 30,345 (88%); 3,993 (11.6%); and 85 (0.25%) facilities are primary, secondary, and tertiary health facilities.
Our solution allows users, both patients and doctors populate a medical records. Hospitals and Clinics are able to pull up and access a patients medical record securely using the ClinifyID and submit claims.
Clinify's web and mobile applications is built using react and react-native on the frontend which make it easier for our solutions to be deployed across many platforms such as Android, IOS and the Web. To ensure that our user information is safe and protected at all times, all requests made to our backend API servers will be authenticated and authorized using secure encrypted JSON web tokens. Caching techniques will be implemented using Redis to ensure that frequently accessed user information is retrieved within the least possible amount of time. Using load balancing techniques we will ensure that our servers have almost zero down time so as to ensure that critical health records are available to both doctors and patients at all times. In addition, we intend to make our App a Progressive Web App (PWA) by storing some of the user data offline, this ensures that they can retrieve some necessary information using low or no internet thereby reducing costs of data needed to access critical information.
Our initial target market for product launch are smartphone users from ages 18 -65. According to GSMA: The Mobile Economy, 2019. There are 226 million smartphone users in Africa, 187 million smartphone users in West Africa and 40 million smartphone users in Nigeria. Nigeria has a population of 202 million people and Africa has a population of about 1.2 Billion people. We have conducted multiple onsite and offsite surveys from potential users to validate the need for our solution and we continuously involve medical professionals to validate the workflows our solution automates and replicates.
In Nigeria, patients currently have to maintain paper based filings/copies of all their medical records at every healthcare facility they visit and the hospitals/clinics still owns the patient records and patients records aren't shared with other providers without receiving payment from the patient. In rare cases where payment have been made by the patient, so their records can be shared. Patient records are shared via mails couriers causing delays, emails, faxes which doesn't protect the patient confidentiality and privacy. There are lots of cases where patient records are misfiled or incomplete due to lost or damaged paper records. Users can now access their centralized records instantly.
The Covid-19 pandemic validates the immediate need for our solution and for patients to have instant access to their medical records as well as own their health information because in situations where movement are restricted, hospital visits are limited to emergency cases, inpatient beds are insufficient. Patient care can only be delivered remotely with digitized access to a unified and centralized medical history. Clinify provide users with our mobile and web application platform that allows both patients and doctors to track and manage patient records while collaborating on one platform with instant access to their medical record via their smartphones.

- A new application of an existing technology
Clinify is the only health record platform that gives supplementary health information and full insights into patient encounters due to our data collection approach by working directly with the patients through our Personal Health Record (PHR). In comparison to other competitors in the
space using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) and their heavy reliance on fatigued healthcare practitioners to update patient encounters on their systems which is solely focused on digitizing paper records but also limits patient access to their health records. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems only function as expected when healthcare personnel are trained, computers or tablets are present, moderately fast internet connectivity is available and stable electricity is present at the healthcare facilities. Clinify overcomes those barriers to usage since we are only relying on smartphones that have data plan subscriptions.

Clinify's goal is to provide seamless health management experience for patients and healthcare providers through our mobile and web application platform, anytime and anywhere. Robotics diagnosis and integration of genomic medicine into healthcare is the future and Clinify is well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities to build a sustainable conglomerate. Our first approach is to build an AI driven auto populated data aggregation mobile and web apps platform that will facilitate clean data collection and gathering in our early years while positioning ourselves to integrate/interface our system directly with medical and non medical devices. We also plan on placing interactive bots/robots in largely utilized healthcare facilities to help reduce wait times and address patient concerns or questions with mild symptoms while providing them the ability to speak with a life doctor in complex or life threatening situations. We believe that technology will solve Africa's health problems and challenges while decreasing the mortality rates thereby saving lives. We are better positioned to help enable this change with our market approach and solutions.
Convincing users that their health data will only be accessible by them and whoever they authorize to share their data with. Ensuring our solution is available is multiple languages across the African continent and in Nigeria.
Continuously demonstrating our stance on data protection and privacy as well as notifying users when requests have been made to us to access their data without their permission. Integrating language translators on our platform.

According to The Health And Managed Care Association Of Nigeria (HMCAN), there are about $30 million dollars in monthly payment from the insurance companies to the hospitals. Clinify will generate revenue by taking between 5.5%-7.5% of processing and transaction fees from these insurance companies for using our insurance billing system and hospitals for using our record management system as well as our insurance billing systems to submit patient health related claims electronically. There are about 70 health insurance companies in Nigeria. Health insurance coverage in Nigeria is estimated to be 1.9%-5.1% of the population. Consequently, an estimated 83% of Nigerians pay their medical bills out-of-pocket. We would also be taking a transaction fee of 6.5% from pharmacies for medication sold online through our mobile/web platform, medication market value is $5 billion and growing. Medication sales from the out of pocket expenses accounts for more than 50%-70% of the health care spending by individuals in Africa.
The healthcare market in Nigeria was valued at over $15 billion in 2018. With a population of over 1.2 billion in Africa. Africa’s health market is large and growing. Estimated to be $259 billion, it will be the second largest after the US in 2030.
