HUG - Heat Urgency Gear
Cold weather affects many people worldwide due to lack of protective clothing, shelter, power, and metabolic energy
This economic coverall will help people stay at a safe temperature and allow them to move and realize their activities
This solution can be used in cold weather locations worldwide by helping people have a safe and comfortable day. Even in unexpected events to get out a risk situation like falling into a cold pond and having to walk home. And if adopted socially could help by reducing the needed to heat houses and shelters
Every year Cold weather affects many individuals and families
In the USA alone, the National Homeless Council report an average of 700 deaths related to hypothermia
Time ago NYC had a huge blackout during winter that affected everyone by not being able to use power to heat themselves

A tyvek coverall lined with mylar
☐ It stops the body heat loss by avoiding it trough convection, conduction, radiation, and evaporation due to the weatherproof capabilities of the tyvek material as well as the reflective properties of the mylar material
☐ Its very cheap - the Dupont Tyvek coverall is the most advanced disposable one and it can be obtained for around 10 USD and mylar blankets are even cheaper
☐ Is very portable and collapsible , so it fits on any kit or small purse
Everyone in a cold weather enviorment can benefit from this design
Homeless people or people with no shelter
Elderly whom dont have the metabolic energy to stay warm
Families with no resources to heat their homes
People in unexpected situations like getting trapped in a car during a snowstorm, or falling into a pond and having to walk home wet
Our community service personnel who need to be in the street or exposed to the weather for long periods of time
People at sea
This gives them an easy comfortable solution to protect themselves and allows them to move so they can get to a shelter if possible
If parkas were 10USD we would had saved many lives already, but they are not. So this solution comes to save lives and also allow many to have a comfortable day while staying safe in these environments
If society included this solution to their day to day, the energy we spend heating homes, offices and so will be reduced keeping our planet healtier
we could even do a 3USD solutiion by just using an emergency rain poncho and a space blanket found in every dollar store. The results would be less efficient than the original but it helps
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model
- A new application of an existing technology
As field techs we use module and puzzle concepts to solve any situation we might have to adressed in the field.
This solution just takes existing items that can be bought in many places for cheap, and allows us to have a life saving product.
Just like cake, a couple ingredients we can find that bring a result many people at home can reach
I designed this while a winter storm hit my city. After seeing the possibilities attempted to donate it to red cross and to offer to someone that could build it and sell. Noone was interested so decided to share it for free, but as I didnt had the resources (not even for a video) the idea just stayed put and we need to get it out to save a life
Tyvek is a greta material as its light and its already used to protect us from wet and air elements. I got an emergency coverall for a couple of dollars in amazon
Mylar is widely know to be heat reflective and its already offered as an emergency solution. But it still lacks the integrity to keep itself in place and allow the person to move
Tyvek and Mylar are widely used by emergency services. This new approach was designed by me and also tested empirically
I got home to texas (2013) (76126) while the freezing weather was still on, and sadly my electricity was out for almost 2 weeks.
I walk to work every day ( its just a mile) and i actually use that walk to test my gear. the tyvek coverall can even induce heath stress at ambient temp due to the non evaporating or convecting heath loss and i was using it at freezing temps to walk to work
The files are no longer with me but I used an underarm wireless thermometer on every test and did the following :
- Walked 2 miles wearing the suit and just a light layer on top
- Walked 2 miles wearing the suit and wet pants and hoodie on top
- Spent 1 hour in the open while wearing the suit and a light layer on top
-Slept every night wearing the suit as i had no electricity or heat at home
- Materials Science
At any moment, if we publish a how to video it will propagate and be used like all the diy face masks and similar. Meaning also that many people without resources will have a tool and opportunity to be safe

Very few people are using this designas we only have managed to share it with local homeless and people in need. We hope your reach can help us save lives worldwide
We strive to create a youtube website with these diy instructions for people to reduce risk situations while also designing other consumables that can be sold allowing us to mount a makerspace in which we can continue building solutions while also offering STEM knowledge to everyone who reaches to us
Mainly economic barriers.
The project can be shared with a minimal investment and that can bring us some support to keep pushing forward. We are resource savy and the only downside is the time, but we wont stop
- Not registered as any organization
We are a group of friends which each has a couple great friends of their own, for now we are 4 people in the main team
Because we are field personnel and have been in these high risk environments, so we know what is needed and how to build it
We are former oilfield field technologists and have worked with every tech from mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, comms, HV, explosives, radiation. While also being trained to survive in extreme conditions as the oilfield locations are usually in non populated areas or non accesible ones like in the high seas
None at the moment
we will finish the edx training for a specific solution, but in hte end we just want to share the design
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
We Have several options we will offer for our products
- Donate for free - An open offer will bring us into attention and allow us to receive funds either by donation, youtube or Patreon style sponsoring
-BODO (buy one donate one) - This we think will also help us make the impact we want as saving lives is our main goal so a direct function of our slaes would be to produce the gear for donation
we will finish the edx training for a specific solution, but in hte end we just want to share the design
We seek no remuneration for the HUG coverall as saving a life would be the best thing ever
If we could get a design or use patent for it it would be amazing and also we can use it to get our team known and requested for working in other projects
Aside of that if this design brings us a tool and equipment sponsorship we could continue doing stuff which is what we like the most
- Funding and revenue model
- Marketing, media, and exposure
Working together with MIT would be a great achievement for us as we are all engineers/techs from local schools
Earning this recognition wouldhelp us while promoting our team
And materials and equipment sponsorship that could be attained by marketing would fulfill our current needs as we have the knowhow and the projects list ready for the oven
MIT- by providing us open access to more of their edx courses and also allowing us to mention we participated in their challenges (marketing)
A 3d printer company as we are mechanically solving many problems we find in our day to day work
This is a minimal tool I designed to help with a common need on ebikes https://support.juicedbikes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015096872-Purchase-a-Mechanical-Disk-Brake-Tool

An ebike motor company like Bafang to provide us equipment for our designs
A hand tool company
Arduino to help provide low cost solutions that can be duplicated worldwide
Many of the people in need of shelter are women who had been left without shelter due to war or refugee migration. We might not be the best solution to empower but we can help a lot
