Devvio Blockchain Covid-19 Tracker
Epidemiologists and other experts on infectious diseases have identified contact tracking as a key tool needed to combat the coronavirus
pandemic. Tracking has allowed some countries, such as Singapore and South Korea, to keep coronavirus transmissions at manageable levels. Devvio can implement a scalable blockchain based solution for privately tracking infectious disease transmission and other Personally Identifiable Information such as medical data. The solution can keep track of Hot Zones (e.g. areas over time where Covid-19 was likely to have been spread) using anonymous location data, and compare the Hot Zones against other user's locations for actionable events. Importantly, the solution relies on a sharding solution with distributed consensus, which allows for governments to run the systems themselves. If governments can run the system, then they can endorse it, and therefore enough people can join in order to make the system effective.
As an initial solution, we are solving the problem of contact tracing to prevent the spread of infectious disease. It is a problem that has affected the entire world, including thousands of deaths and trillions of dollars of financial impact. Our solution could dramatically reduce this impact. This particular implementation of our technology is a subset, however, of an even larger opportunity and problem we are solving.
According to Global Market Insights the global digital health market value is expected to surpass $504.4 Billion by 2025 of which USD 139.4 billion would go to the electronic health records business. The need to share information, especially healthcare data and records, while confining it to authorized recipients and within regulatory compliance is one of the most challenging problems in data management and cybersecurity today. While tracking and preventing the spread of COVID-19 is a valuable use case, it is only one potential application of broader use of the system. The potential utilization of the system cannot be overstated – this is a technical infrastructure that can be applied as a foundation for all areas of healthcare with the core component being privacy compliant, byzantine fault tolerant secure, immutable, record management.
Devvio can utilize its blockchain technology to track infectious
diseases. Devvio's
blockchain technology has a number of features that set it apart from
other comparable solutions and approaches. In summary, primarily among
these are:
-
Privacy: Devvio's approach allows for privacy. A tracking solution needs to maintain users' privacy while still allowing for needed information to be anonymously transmitted to authorities. Users have full control of all of their stored information including a robust identity system.
-
Scale and Cost: Devvio's solution can be scaled to national or even global scale. Blockchain, as a technology, is particularly well suited to tracking large volume time-ordered data. Devvio has the only solution scalable enough to apply blockchain to this use case at the needed scale. Blockchain is an ideal solution for contact tracing.
-
Trust: Devvio's solution uses a sharding solution and distributed consensus. What this means, in practical terms, is that any government can directly maintain and run the network for their citizens. In our view, this is the only practical way to create a tracking system that will actually work. If governments are running a system, they can endorse it and it can be widely, and effectively, used.
Given the magnitude of the problem that Covid-19 has created, our technology solution would serve all of the citizens of the world. Any government, from city, to state, to national levels could use our technology to effectively and privately track virus spread or any other type of medical or personally identifiable information, in a way where users are in full control of their data. If our technology was in place when the Covid-19 pandemic started, it could have been used to significantly reduce deaths and economic impact, as was shown by countries like Singapore and Korea, where contract tracing was an effective strategy. Given that our solution has distributed consensus scalable to millions of transactions per second, in our view, it is the only practical way to deploy this type of solution on a global scale across a majority of governments.
Our solution provides a direct method to stop the spread of Covid-19, which is the heart of the purpose of the challenge. If Covid-19 data can be measured, then it can be managed.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth
- A new application of an existing technology
Devvio's blockchain technology has a number of features that set it apart from other comparable solutions and approaches. In summary, primarily among these are:
-
Privacy: Devvio's approach allows for privacy. A tracking solution needs to maintain users' privacy while still allowing for needed information to be anonymously transmitted to authorities. Users have full control of all of their stored information including a robust identity system.
-
Scale and Cost: Devvio's solution can be scaled to national or even global scale at over 8 million transactions per second. Blockchain, as a technology, is particularly well suited to tracking large volume time-ordered data. Devvio has the only solution scalable enough to apply blockchain to this use case at the needed scale. Blockchain is an ideal solution to contact tracing.
-
Trust: Devvio's solution uses a sharding solution to parallelize the blockchain's operations. It also uses distributed consensus. What this means, in practical terms, is that any government can directly maintain and run the network for their citizens. In our view, this is the only practical way to create a tracking system that will actually work. In order for a tracking system to work, it has to be broadly deployed, and governments need to endorse it. If they are running it, they can endorse it.
Fundamentally, if the spread of a disease is tracked and authorities have needed data, then there can be actionable steps taken. Without data, authorities are in the dark in how to combat a disease's spread.
Devvio’s blockchain protocol, Devv, was created to solve blockchain’s most pressing challenges. It is a highly secure and robust solution with strong IP protection, including a number of broad blocking patents.
Its design solves the problems that other blockchains have faced, such as cost, scalability, governance, volatility, privacy, immediacy, energy usage, and the persistent problems of fraud, theft, and loss. It is the first protocol to solve all of blockchain’s biggest problems in a single solution and is ideal for deployment at global scale.
Perhaps the most important consideration in global deployment of blockchains is transaction cost. Devv is ultra efficient. A set of transactions that would cost on the order of $100,000 on other blockchains costs only $1 on the Devv blockchain.
Devv is the first blockchain in the world to process over 1 million transactions per second on-chain, and currently can process over 8 million global, public transactions per second on-chain (compared to Bitcoin’s 5 TPS and Visa’s 40,000 TPS). Devv is the most scalable blockchain in the world.

Our theory of change is straightforward. Countries like Singapore and South Korea have shown that contact tracking is an effective tool in preventing the spread of infectious disease. Given our approach is a practical way to scale to global scale where countries run the system themselves, our approach could save tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of lives as well as trillions of dollars of economic damage. Clearly, both the saving of lives and preventing widespread economic damage would have far reaching effects.

If deployed for identity and medical record use cases, it would serve millions of people in the short term, and billions of people long term.
Our goals are for our technology to become widely deployed in tracking private medical records. Over the next year we would like to deployed broadly within the US, serving millions of people. Over the next 5 years, we would like to be deployed globally, serving billions of people.
The primary barriers, which is often the case for a small company to utilize powerful technology towards big problems, are awareness and limited resources.
We expect to partner with National Laboratories or large corporations to help deploy the technology at scale. We have a great deal of expertise on our team in doing so.
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models
7 full-time staff, 6 part-time staff.
Devvio has a world-class team, and the most scalable, cost-effective, and adaptable blockchain solution in the world.
We have started several projects with large corporations.
Devvio's business model is a SaaS model. Our billing model is similar to cloud computing models that businesses are used to - if people want to use our blockchain to record their data, assets, or records, we charge a monthly fee and customers can scale our system as their business use grows.
- Organizations (B2B)
Devvio is a for-profit company, and we sell our products and services.
Solve can help us with resources such as funding, to implement the solution, and also help create awareness for the solution.
- Funding and revenue model
- Marketing, media, and exposure
We would like to partner with large technical organizations that have resources to fund development, as well as handle NRE development (which could be their revenue, a strong opportunity) for customized work in implementing the technology for various governments.
We would use the elevate prize to develop the technological solution use case, leveraging our existing technology. The value of our solution cannot be overstated. It could fundamentally improve the world, not only in tracking infectious diseases, but in maintaining global health records. Blockchain is a technology that fundamentally represents the transfer of value, where the internet is fundamentally a technology that represents the transfer of data. At that most basic level, blockchain can influence the world in positive way to the same level that the internet has influenced the world. This type of technology can fundamentally improve people's lives, bring value to the bottom of the pyramid, track any types of digital assets or digital representations of physical assets, and even track human endeavor itself. Devvio has the only blockchain technology currently scalable enough to bring this grand vision to reality. The humanitarian aspects of growing our technology is an important long term goal of everthing we have done and everything we represent as a company.
AI and Machine Learning are best utilized when there are large datasets where cause and effect can be inferred. Blockchain is particularly well suited to maintaining large-scale, time-ordered datasets, which is arguably the best data structure for many AI/Machine Learning applications. We feel that for many of the most valuable uses of AI/Machine Learning, that blockchain will be a foundational technology.
Devvio's identity solutions as well as the ability to implement the technology on mobile platforms for transferring value, addresses needs at the bottom of the pyramid. Identity for refugees is an enormous challenge, and our technology can be used to solve that problem.
