Skin Plastering VS COVID-19

This project is about solving the current Coronavirus crisis of the world by developing a simple algorithm that support medical staffs to do their work while protecting their health condition.

From detail researches which I conducted and detail information I gathered, the major risk for medical staffs treating Coronavirus patients to get infected is when they take off their protective equipments like their suits and mask. We would think that their interaction with Coronavirus infected people hold the highest role for their infection but the fact is far from it. Medical personals are required to wear protective gear at all time in the hospitals or temporary treatment centers like full body suit with mask attached with eye protection equipment. Since they spend the majority of their time wearing the protective equipments, the chance of the Coronavirus being on outer surface of the protective gear is very high close between 90 to 100 percent. When they finish their duty for the day or night, they take off their protective equipments. At this critical activity it is impossible for the outer surface of the protective gear not to touch the inner cloth or skin of the medical staff. This will lead to transmission of the coronavirus from their protective gear to their body easily especially when they take off their full head coving mask.   

This project is about building a skin plastering material that coat the skin of medical staffs fighting Coronavirus to protect them from risk of getting infection when they take off their protection equipments. The plastering material is intended to cover the body part of medical staffs in their shoulder and above. This material should be sticky in the inner side and should not bring discomfort like heat, sweet generation and most of all should not pass micro particles same as the Coronavirus. The skin plastering will protect them from the coronavirus being on their skin that will have high risk of getting on their system which many medical staffs have been infected in that way. This is very critical, very serious issue and because of that currently when medical staffs take off their protective gear, they will need assistance or there is a policy that states no medical staffs should take off their protective equipments by himself or herself. But sadly even doing so the risk is still high because medical workers do not have much time to spend on helping each other take off their cloth and that makes the process done with pace which will increase the risk.      

The current health crisis of the world is getting very critical because it is not only killing patients but also the medicals staffs who are treating the patients. In China, more than 3,000 doctors were infected, nearly half of them in Wuhan, where the pandemic began, according to Chinese government statistics. Li Wenliang, the Chinese doctor who first tried to raise the alarm about Covid-19, eventually died of it. In Italy, the number of infected heath care workers is now twice the Chinese total, and the National Federation of Orders of Surgeons and Dentists has compiled a list of 50 who have died. Nearly 14 percent of Spain’s confirmed Coronavirus cases are medical professionals. Even though the data of how many medical personals have been infected is not reported to the public, it is not hard to imagine it is very large in number because of the level of infection in that city. This data is very worrying and if we see the world infection data for patient VS the medical staff, you can see it is matter of time that we no longer have sufficient medical personals to control the put break. 

This project aligns with the challenge because it focuses on the Coronavirus crisis of the world.
