Water to households affected by Covid-19
The project "Water to households affected by Covid-19" consists of solving the problem of individual hygiene faced by 10 vulnerable families affected by the situation of Covid-19 in Nyarwizimwa avenue, Commune of Kadutu, Province of South Kivu in DRCongo. To bring a saving solution to this problem, "Association wa Maman Amka" will connect these vulnerable families with drinking water so that they can have easy access to drinking water on their plots for personal hygiene. and domestic of their members under the family roof.
"Water is life," they say. Water is a fundamental resource without which life is impossible. Access to water for each family contributes to the improvement of family living conditions in terms of its usefulness. From the family as the nucleus of development, the living conditions of the city are improved, and by the knock-on effect, those of the region, the country and the planet as well.
The population of the city of Bukavu estimated at more than 806,940 inhabitants since 2016. Over 65% of this population is faced with the problem of water-borne diseases, rape and abduction of child girls who go in search of water at long distances or forced to wait late at night in a line for the arrival of water at public standpipes due to lack of water nearby or on their plots. Individual and domestic hygiene is threatened. To this is added economic misery in the rank of vulnerable families. Today Covid-19 is making the situation worse. Of all the solutions to prevent and protect against this scourge, water takes the first place in strengthening the appropriate measures against the Covid-19. This is why "Association wa Maman Amka" is concerned about this situation which endangers human lives. The activity envisaged to provide an adequate response to this problem experienced by vulnerable families is to provide them with drinking water in order to enable them to cope with this scourge, and improve sanitary conditions in general, and personal hygiene in particular.
The project "Water to households affected by Covid-19" consists in providing drinking water to 10 vulnerable families who do not have how to prevent and protect themselves from Covid-19, because they do not have access to water. To this are added other consequences linked to the lack of water. The connection will be made from an existing supply. That is to say, from an existing water pipe, families will be connected by piping to their plots where the draw points will be installed. On the ground where the water must fall, it will have pavement and a small drainage pipe. The technology used is the new way of designing and doing things: usually water supply or supply projects are communal, belong to groups. The individual dimension is discarded. It is reserved only for the bourgeois. This project is the first that takes into account the family in its individuality. A new way of doing things: from an existing solution, the Association wa Maman Amka finds an answer to another challenge, notably that of the lack of access to drinking water by vulnerable families.
The beneficiaries of this project are 10 vulnerable families from NYARWIZIMYA avenue, Kadutu Commune, Bukavu city who do not have how to prevent and protect themselves from Covid-19, because they do not have access to water . There are other consequences linked to the lack of water. In addition, these families are exposed to water-borne diseases, and their daughters-in-law are often victims of rape and abduction by the fact that they fetch water from long distances or wait until late. night, the arrival of water on public standpipes. The present project therefore contributes to improving the living conditions of these 10 vulnerable families through access to drinking water.
The participation of beneficiary families in this project is the preparation of land, the transport of drinking water connection materials and their presence in meetings related to the project. This participation even reflects their involvement.
The challenge or problem: the 10 vulnerable families are exposed to the risks of contamination of Covid-19 and other water-borne diseases. Also their child daughters are often victims of rape and abduction when they go looking for water long distances or late at night, because they have no water on their plots. This project aligns with this challenge, since providing potable water to these vulnerable families is an appropriate response to their problem.
