STEM Pathway for underprivileged youth

Our solution allows low-income students who are the next generation of innovators discover their passion through a STEM pathway, tailored to their interests.

Students in financially unstable areas have a misconceived notion that STEM careers do not apply to them or are only for those with a higher education. However, through our program, we can tailor their interests and match them with a STEM background that suits their passion. So, if these students are interested in music, we connect them to founders of Earsketch, a company that uses Python and Javascript through music composition and show them what they need to major in, so they can live their dream job through STEM. By expsoing students to these types of backgrounds, students are more inspired to start a career in STEM and fill the lack of STEM jobs needed in the community.

Students in financially unstable backgrounds have limited access to knowledge of exciting STEM careers that await them.  Less than 25% of men and women comprise of the STEM workforce. Students are have common misconceptions about STEM majors such as that they have a  lack  of  female  role  models,  gender  stereotyping,  and  less  family-friendly flexibility in the STEM fields.

Our solution is a program that allows underprivileged students who are interested or are passionate about the engineering pathway to discover what field best suits them. We want to provide opportunities for the upcoming generation by increasing the knowledge of the students in the STEM pathways and to also inspire the students that no matter their financial backgrounds they are the youth of the future.

By providing workshops and tailoring each student to their specific interests that align with a STEM major, students will have a higher chance of keeping a sustainable job in the future. According to a 2017 ESA report “Workers in STEM occupations earn more on average than their counterparts in other jobs, regardless of their educational attainment.” Even if they do not continue in the STEM field, their STEM degree provides a foundation for a higher pay, which creates more jobs and a less of a chance of being laid off for our youth.

Track students via email, social media and personal interviews. - Over 300 students complete the program and want to pursue a STEM career.

Our solution not only solves one of the bigger issues but it allows the youth to connect with experienced STEM majors and provide a mentorship like none other. 

Our solution is lead by the youth, for the youth, our focus is to allow students to find their passions through STEM with no charge.
