C-STEMP EDUTECH
This project is concerned with developing and deploying innovative technology based solutions to enhance E-learning and E- assessment to create efficiencies, affordability, standardization and democratized access.
It is set to transform the future of how skills development is resourced, taught, consumed and ultimately, the results that it can yield – both for the individual and for society as a whole as we continue to build the skills sector.
The project aims at addressing the challenge of access to vocational skills training and learning as well as usability challenges faced by adults and artisans on e-learning platforms.
The solution is designed to be a simple and highly usable learning management system with a focus on vocational skills training content
We believe that having more access to training will result in higher competence levels of interested youths and consequently more employment that will lead to better quality of lives.
- Access to learning: Access and complexity issues faced by adults and artisans in using online learning platforms is a major challenge militating against skills training.
- Offline Competency based assessment has a lot of challenges such as travel time for quality assurers, voluminous paperwork etc. Hence this solution will allow for e-assessment to eliminate some of these challenges
- Scale up the numbers of trained, assessed and certified crafts persons
The project is a web based learning management system. The focus is on high levels of simplicity derived from user research, user evaluation and heuristic evaluation.
The solution is designed to warehouse robust training content where interested participants who enroll for training register and are given access. They interact with this content at their local communities for the knowledge based modules of their chosen trades and are subjected to competency based assessment under the National Skills Qualification Framework and consequently registered and licensed.
Currently, the Learning Management System is a PHP CodeIgniter project hosted on an Apache server. We however have seen the need to develop and deploy a Client-Server Project based on Vue.js and Express.js with a MongoDB Model. A Cross-Platform Mobile Application would also be developed using Flutter.
The project will use Express.js to implement a RESTful API Server which will be consumed by multiple Cross-Platform clients and the Express Server will also hold an SSO login, as the project intends to scale to utilize a Micro Frontend framework eventually.
The solution is targeted at people of basic literacy level, school leavers and unemployed youths who are interested in vocational skills.
From engagement with the target groups, we understand that the adult population finds it hard to adapt to complex technologies, even more so with artisans that have generally little technology exposure.
The development process involves continuous engagement of a pilot group from our target population in a series of usability tests to ensure that the solution is simply enough and properly adapted to them.
The solution will allow for easy access to skill training content which will culminate in their assessment and certification for job placement.
- Equip workers with technological and digital literacy as well as the durable skills needed to stay apace with the changing job market
Problem: unemployment and unemployability among young Nigerians is tied to lack of market-demand skills. Apart from the domain skills, the lack of soft skills and illiteracy among the target population contributes to this problem.
Solution: develop and deploy innovative technology based solutions to enhance E-learning and E- assessment to create efficiencies, affordability, enable new levels of standardization and democratized access to keep the target population apace with the changing job market.
