Let's Be Heroes

The problem we are committed to solving is providing good jobs and inclusive entrepreneurship. The solution I propose is creating a program that can promote and market local small businesses and have those businesses be a platform for inclusion, and education in their respective fields. From profits made through the program we can create internships and apprenticeships in the supporting businesses. If this program was scaled globally  we can create an interconnected group of businesses that can exchange ideas and find employees that are trained in their respective fields. This will help generate income for businesses through marketing, help train workers in new skills, and help with job placement for the community.

In the community that I live, where I plan to start my program, there are 27,000 unemployed people. There are also 7,607 employer establishments as of 2017. 90.5% of people 25 yrs and older have a high school diploma or higher, only 35% have a bachelor degree or higher. My program can help the smaller establishments grow, while they provide a space for education and experience in their respective fields. For people who are looking for a new career; they can use my program to establish relationships with business owners through various training programs, internships, and apprenticeships. This program would help the many people who do not wish to continue their education after high school or simply can't afford to. 40% of the global population is underemployed. Many countries in the world have double digit unemployment, including the U.S, which has a 13.3% rate as of June 5,2020. Providing support to local businesses,while funding internships and apprenticeships through those businesses will help the communities grow and strive by educating people and giving them the opportunities to start careers of their own.

My solution is to start a program that promotes local businesses, through marketing and event planning. In turn the businesses enrolled in the program will provide job training to interested job applicants. They will provide internships and apprenticeships in their fields. In doing so they will have a recurring resource for new employees and potential for future growth in their respective industry. The program will incorporate all aspects of media, including social media, which can reach a broad audience at a low cost.

The target population whose lives I'm working to improve; are small business owners, and people who are unemployed and looking for job training in a new career. It is important to keep local businesses running and growing, and provide them with employees trained in their fields and eager to start their own careers. I understand that there are people who don't know what their options are after high school, or just don't have the funds to continue their education further. There are many trades and employment opportunities that will be made available to them through this program. Promoting and marketing those businesses that provide these opportunities will increase their clientele base, while their training of interested individuals, will provide them with a resource for new employees when they are needed.

This solution aligns to this challenge because it can grow organically. As more businesses enroll in the program, the population of potential employees and employers will grow as well. The program can create a website which connects businesses and potential employees. Potential employees can find supporting businesses to start job training, and businesses looking for employees can find individuals already trained in their fields.
