CreativeList: Database for Creatives
1. The main pain point of creative hiring in Kenya is Guarantee. For clients, it's the guarantee that the creatives they hire, have the ability to do the work satisfactorily and deliver within in budget. For creatives, it is the guarantee of valid employment and pay once the job is done.
2. Our Solution: A Creative Professional Marketplace that offers an opportunity for creatives to find employment and helps employers to efficiently and objectively identify top creative talent;
•Two sided marketplace that connects businesses of all sizes, individual clients and peers to freelance creatives for their production needs.
•Platform effects to support creatives- rating and recommendation systems, skills development, fair pay and legalities.
3. More creatives will have the opportunity to be hired on merit, gain more work opportunities, develop their skills and get support to best showcase themselves, get fair pay and know their rights to their work.
The main pain point of creative hiring in Kenya is Guarantee. For clients, it is the guarantee that the creatives they hire, have the ability to do the work satisfactorily as described in the job description, and deliver within in budget. For creatives, it is the guarantee of valid employment and pay once the job is done according to the job description.
This main pain point has contributed to creative hiring being largely done through ‘who you know’ and ‘word of mouth’ and i most cases, merit and skill level don't factor in, limiting the opportunities for deserving creatives to gain employment fairly.
With the state of hiring in this condition, it has placed many creatives at the mercy of their employers when it comes to pay. Seeking viable opportunities has made many creatives prey to the employers who hire them; trade favors with a recommendation to a paying job, a credit in a publication which is already their right to have or forced to take the little pay the employer offers verses nothing at all when the job offer is rescinded. Finding viable and well paying jobs is time consuming and often involves giving kickbacks to connectors.

Our mission is to create infrastructure and inspire policies for
creatives to commercialize their talent. The objective is to develop the
resources and the infrastructure that are necessary to create the
maximum probability for commercial success, to inspire financial

Facilitate Research- The Creative Industry in Africa is one with no substantial data as it is an underdeveloped and underinvested sector. All data available are deductions measured against foreign countries and regions that have developed the industry, which are inadequate or irrelevant for our own use. The platform that BE Afrika creates will allow data collection that will facilitate proper statistics and research resulting to accurate measurements of the industry not only for well documented resource for reference but creations of solutions to promote sustainable economic growth of the sector.
1. Cultural- Traditional way of doing things. Many brands go to ad agencies for the creation of their marketing content majorly because of security and assurance despite the high fees these agencies charge.
2. Market Barrier- Many creative employers don't understand why a good creative charges the amount they do. The pay against their need for instant gratification and despite the big contribution this content adds to their production needs, they are reluctant to pay equal to the job because they do not understand the creative process.
3. Financial- There is limited funding for media and creative based companies, making it difficult to launch and scale solutions.
4. Legal- There are a number of organizations that have taken advantage of creatives in Kenya. Making them reluctant of joining more. It will affect the number of creatives and clients we will be able to on-board in the first year.
5. Technical- It is difficult to identify good platform developers to hire on-staff. And most want very high salaries before they can prove to be able to deliver what we require.
1. Cultural- It is on us to inspire trust and deliver on our promise of guarantee to change this opinion.
2. Market Barrier- Educate employers on the creative process and how it affects time and billing.
3. Financial- After initial investment, the parent company Be Afrika Media Ltd has a
strategy to create an ecosystem of its products so that they are feeding
each other in spite of what may be happening, like now with COVID 19. A
Camel company that not only generates business but also self-funds.
4. Legal- We will, prove ourselves by delivering on our promise. We will also, as part of the platform effects we offer, act as advocates include not only teaching them of their legal rights but also provide representation when they need it.
5. Technical- Our strategy is to partner with highly recommended developer companies who have the capacity to bring more additional staff if need be to build the CreativeList platform.
- For-profit, including B-Corp or similar models

Also, these profiles/online portfolios will encourage creatives to upload their recent works easily and just as easily allow us access, reducing the hiring and interview time.
Legitimacy in Kenya is very important, and people see that through your very strong online presence.
- Solution technology
- Funding and revenue model
We need assistance in building the platform that will easily automate our peer-to-peer and B2C marketplace business models.
We also need assistance in funding, especially gaining grant funding because VC and investors still see media and the creative sector as not strong industries to invest in here in Kenya.
Nestle- Creative Industry research that focus on Hiring, Interaction with the formal sector in Kenya and Data collection on the creative industry in Kenya.
Kingston College- and others like them that can Creative Entrepreneurship degree courses in Kenya.
British Council- As the arts and creative patron in Kenya.
Government of Kenya- Developing the creative industry to address the growing youth unemployment rate.
We wish to work with organizations and initiatives that will help us realize our mission.
Our mission is to create infrastructure and inspire policies for creatives to commercialize their talent. The objective is to develop the resources and the infrastructure that are necessary to create the maximum probability for commercial success, to inspire financial sustainability.
In the creative sector, women are mainly in the fields of modelling, makeup art, hair styling and modeling. We would like to recognize more women in male dominated fields, to not necessarily give them an advantage over men but to show them off and their ability in competitive fields- for example, Creative Directors, film directors, videography, graphic design, photography.
We wish to recognize them and would do this by coming up with project that will have ladies in different creative fields address social points that concern them and put on an exhibition event.
Our SDG objectives are employment sustainability—encourage formal and informal education in Media, Creative & Cultural Industries, training and resources for businesses in this industry and facilitate partnerships in the form of creative collaborations—and decent work—fair pay for work done by setting a standard of measure for quality hires that will dictate remuneration.
The sole purpose of CreativeList is to connect creatives with valid job opportunities and to encourage skills development to increase such opportunities and have them hired by merit and no other reason.
We have an interest in identifying, empowering and ensuring that creatives have an enabling environment to support their talent. This can be done through skills development and education. We wish to add our own Masterclass for different creative skills and facilitate other online learning programs to easily deliver their lessons to a database of creatives in Africa.
