Transform Her

Women and girls represent more than half of the world’s population and potentials. But gender inequality continues to persist and stagnates social progress. Without access to proper training, most women/girls do not occupy managerial positions, and fail in businesses. 

Using our app, we offer short courses to women/girls in their local languages. The app contains features to enable the deaf and dump effectively participate in the training. They are assigned mentors to guide them into attaining career success. Summary of lectures and updates are sent to their phones as text messages.  They interact with the app like it was a live lecture. For example: they ask questions and receive instant responses. They pitch their businesses for sponsorship, and also benefit from free advertisement of their products and services.

Our project will enable women/girls succeed in their career and be well respected in the society.

As technology advances at a rapid speed, the labor market keeps evolving. As a result, an increasing number of jobs require STEM skills and knowledge. However, STEM jobs are still majorly underrepresented by women. There are only 28% of women in STEM fields as opposed to 72% of men.

Without access to proper education and training, most women/girls do not occupy managerial positions, and fail in businesses. For example in 2018, women and girls only held 27% of managerial positions worldwide. Across the globe, women and girls perform a disproportionate of unpaid domestic work.

Through the Transform Her App, we offer STEM courses specifically to women and girls to help them excel in life. They interact with the app like it was a live lecture. For example: they ask questions and receive instant responses. Summary of lessons and updates are sent to their cell phones  as text messages. The app also contains features to enable the deaf and dumb effectively participate in the training.

We offer courses such as graphic design, programming, web design, machine learning, data science, video editing, gaming and IoT. In the course of training, they are equipped with leadership and entrepreneurship skills.

This app has a language processing feature, which delivers lectures to these women/girls in their local language. They connect with alumni to help guide them in their various areas of interests, and help them draw inspirations from their success stories.

In the course of the training, we assign them to mentors to guide them through attaining a successful career, give them opportunity to pitch their businesses for sponsorship, and also advertise their products and services for free on the app.

Our target population is women and girls across Africa, because they are under represented in the job market.  With them properly trained, they are well equipped for the job market and even set up their own enterprises.

So far, we have read lots of articles related to gender inequality and how it affects the lives of women and girls. We have also listened to interviews of victims of gender inequality and their success stories

This project will empower women and girls through proper training, mentoring and sponsorship. Through this, we will contribute in closing the STEM gap and equip them for the job market. 

This project is bringing solution to the question on how can marginalized populations access and create good jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities for themselves? Our selected dimension is to equip workers with technological and digital literacy as well as the durable skills needed to stay apace with the changing job market.

To achieve these, we offer courses such as graphic design, programming, web design, machine learning, data science, video editing, coding, gaming and IoT. In the course of training, they are equipped with leadership and entrepreneurship skills.

We don't only train them, we offer one-on-one mentoring to enable them attain career success. In addition to that, we given them opportunity to pitch their business for sponsorship and advertise their products and services on the app.

We're making a virtual live training app where women and girls can learn and be trained. The learning will be promoted through study tools, discussions, help, guides, and free study material.

Our team is going to include a testimonials section where women can share their reviews on how the app has helped them over the course of training.

We hope to include functionalities that will aid women and girls with disabilities e.g blind/deaf people to be able to use the app as just as efficiently as everyone else. 

We are including a languages feature where women from all over the world can access the app.

Other functionalities includes but not limited to instant messaging that has the features of all the popular apps like LinkedIn, Skype and Telegram. It will offer great messaging services, video calls, audio calls, internet calls, sharing, emojis, sharing of business cards and data and sharing of big files.

We also hope to add push notifications for task scheduling and motivation that reminds you of the daily to-do tasks and provides motivation to do the tasks that you are less willing to do, such as exercise, wake up, read, etc.

Our team is combining Web Development and Mobile App Development technologies as well as our Public Health Relations and Content Creation expertise.

We're going to use algorithms based on most of the popular social networking apps such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and also will hope to include AI and Machine Learning technologies to aid us further improve upon the app's functionalities.  

Most social networking and AI based apps such as Twitter, Slack, Zoom, Instagram, Facebook, Uber, Google, Tiktok and WeChat use these technologies to operate.

Currently we have a prototype design which it is not live yet, so 0 individuals. We are hoping to train 100 women/girls and sponsor at least 10 businesses within the first year, and in 5 years hopefully train about a million individuals and sponsor more than 200 businesses.

We are a team from African and we have limited resources. Also there is the added basic necessity such as electricity issues, internet issues and a start-up capital. We are hoping to make our organization as big as possible, and need funds to help bring our project to fruition.

We are hoping to use the prize funding from Solve to complete the app and begin our activities.

We bring in money to fund our work through sustained donations and grants from different organizations or companies who are interested in our solution. For sustainability, we have a subscription plan where women/girls can decide to signup for free or pay an annual fees

Through Solve, my team members and I will have access to mentors, who will guide us into attaining success in our activities. 

The Solve community is also a large networking medium. We shall meet like-minded solvers whom we shall be able to exchange ideas on attaining great success. 

Funding is also a motivation, since it will help us successfully implement our solution.

Our app is still at the level of prototype. We are still developing it to make it functional in a couple of months. We welcome experts to works with us in making the app up to standard and user friendly.

Secondly, we carry out sensitization on importance of education of the girl child, offer training in STEM and mentoring, we are looking for funding to help us run our activities successfully.

We also need legal experts to help us design terms of agreement.

Transform Her is a project which aims to bridge the gender inequality gap and contribute to ensuring a society whereby women and girls are given equal opportunities as men/boys. We strongly believe that gender equality is something which can become a reality. All we have to do is accept and acknowledge that times are changing, and women just like man have the ability to make a difference in the society.

Our focus is using the app to offer STEM training to women and girls in areas such as Microsoft, web design, artificial intelligence, gaming, graphic design, video editing, software development, and leadership and entrepreneurship. In the course of training, they are assigned to mentors to guide them into attaining career success. They are also given opportunity to pitch their business for sponsorship. There are functionalities in the app to ensure visually impaired, deaf, and those living in areas with network challenges effectively participate in the training. Businesses owned by women are advertised in the app. This helps expose them to buyers, investors and other partners.

This award will help us train more women and girls, and sponsor more businesses. It will give us the ability to bring in more women who have succeeded despite the challenges faced, to help guide our trainees through mentoring, and distribute more educative contents and creatives.

 Mindful of the fact that more than 70% of jobs require STEM skills, we use the Transform Her app to offer short courses to women in areas such as: web design, artificial intelligence, IoT, machine learning, gaming, graphic design, video editing, Microsoft and software developer. In the course of the training, they are equipped with leadership and entrepreneurship skills. During the training, they are assigned to mentors to guide them into attaining career success.There are functionalities in the app to ensure visually impaired, deaf, and those living in areas with network challenges effectively participate in the training.

This award will help us get into the rural areas for sensitization campaigns on the importance of STEM skills in the workforce. It will also help us train more women and sponsor more businesses.
