PARTNERSHIP FOR GROWTH FOUNDATION
Our Project aims at solving high poverty levels of 63% ; Low and decreasing household income; rural - Urban migration mainly by youth; economic shocks caused by marginalization; low modern market-oriented skills caused by use of out-dated technologies; food deficit of 40% which is mainly caused by lack of adequate rainfall and traditional farming practices.
We aim to address these Challenges through: Creating descent jobs and incomes; technical training skills using modern technologies; training the informal sector businesses on modern technologies and linking them to markets; construction of sand dams and water reservoirs in strategic points to supply communities with water for use in modern farming e.g. drip-line based irrigation method for their horticulture and other viable food items.
The solution changes lives by ensuring that the income levels of marginalized communities is enhanced; people create jobs for themselves and others, enhance economies globally, organic food supply and improve nutrition.
The SDG 1 calls for an end to poverty in all its manifestations by 2030. It also aims to ensure social protection for the poor and vulnerable, increase access to basic services and support people harmed by climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters.
Makueni County experiences high levels of poverty of 60.6 per cent. The poor in the County are the people who earn less than $ 1.25 per day and have less access to basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, health, water and education. About two - third of the people are poor and live below the poverty line. The majority of the poor are women, children and people living with disabilities. Poverty is most severe amongst the women inequality, limited access to and ownership of land, lack of income generating opportunities, isolation in essential economic services and decision making (Makueni County Vision 2025)
Poverty in the County has led Rural-Urban Migration by the youthful productive population. It has also led to high malnutrition levels, high dependency ratio and high school dropout rates. This situation has been worsened by extreme climatic conditions and reduced agricultural production.

Our innovation is transformative as it tackles the core of poverty alleviation. It also has a ripple effect of solving global challenges from the local level using simple and practical methods which can be grasped by the community. By imparting the up-to-date skills required in the world to rural communities and equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, the marginalized and needy communities can take control of their life and transform the global economy.
We aim to use modern technology in the farming practices. This includes and not limited to drip irrigation as well as use modern technology in the Training and Vocational Centre.
We also aim to partner with the local Member of Parliament's (MP's) office to install a hot-spot zone. This is a project being undertaken in partnership with the Government's National Ministry of Information Communication and Technology (ICT), Innovation and Youth Affairs.
We have tried this solution in our current programs and it has proved transformative to the community members who embraced it. We currently have a community library which serves over 20 schools and university students. Most of our beneficiaries have taken control of their lives and are pursuing their dreams.
