In Bali, the waste collection system is not managed properly. Waste collectors cannot efficiently sort and handle waste. The cost becomes unmonitored and the garbage that can be sold does not have a proper economic value, making the waste collector as an important role in the waste collection process did not get maximum benefit.
This application makes waste collectors easier to know customer data, their payment status, determine routes based on cost efficiency, and know the amount of money they will receive based on the volume and type of recyclables they sell. If our application can be developed globally, waste will become a valuable raw material that will be used by the community to get additional income.
The problem that we are trying to solve is the problem of littering and unorganized waste. Also, waste workers who work are inefficient, with below average incomes.
On the other hand, the industry continues to produce products that will potentially produce waste if not taken seriously. Where what they produce ends up as trash in a landfill, or pollutes the environment if it is dumped carelessly.
By combining artificial intelligence and GPS, we provide the most efficient route recommendations for waste collectors in terms of distance, time, and cost. Thus, the waste collector can ensure that they have collected waste in all areas of their coverage by cutting costs and time. In addition, through image recognition technology, in a single capture, the app can immediately identify the type of waste and determine the nominal they will receive. This makes the waste collector receive a decent payment from all the garbage they can collect.
Community: we help the community to sort waste according to criteria, and provide additional income from the sale of sorted waste. And indirectly we improve the quality of the environment for people who have done proper sorting and waste management.
Waste workers: We provide solutions to waste workers to work more efficiently in terms of time and distance. As well as providing opportunities for waste workers to increase income from what they have done.
Industries: With technology, we try to connect waste workers with industry. We provide opportunities for industries to obtain raw materials for reprocessing at lower prices.
- Equip workers with technological and digital literacy as well as the durable skills needed to stay apace with the changing job market
From this application we equip waste collectors with technology that is able to increase revenue and work efficiency. At the same time, with this technology we encourage people to start to build a circular economy of the waste sector by giving value and price to each waste they can sort and collect. Therefore, through the application that we have developed, waste collector have a good income from his job and everyone can start economic and entrepreneurial activities from the waste sector.
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
- A new application of an existing technology
By using technology, we unlock the barriers between the needs of the community, waste workers and industry regarding waste problems. Together with that, we turn waste into something that has purchasing power. So that the community will not litter. We build connections for the community, as well as provide knowledge to the community to sort waste from an early age.
We innovate to be able to cover all the existing waste criteria, and to be able to utilize the waste. The waste that we have used so far has been: plastic, scrap metal, glass bottles, aluminum & cans, paper, and coconut shells. We will add more criteria (kind of waste) according to community needs. Recently, we plan to collect food waste and build a cooperation to more industries to utilize the waste.
The technology we developed is an innovation in handling waste. Our application is able to detect the type of waste using artificial intelligence and determine the price of the waste. So that people easily classify types of waste and know how much they will earn.
On the other hand, this application helps waste workers to improve their performance in collecting waste. Using the mapping and route collection features, waste workers are able to reduce waste collection time. Then, the community will find out who is the officer and time the waste will be collected. By this condition, the application will produce a transaction between household and waste worker. The transaction based on the waste prize shown by the application.
We strive to develop user-friendly and beneficial technologies for all levels of society. Especially waste workers, we develop technology to increase waste worker income and ways of working more optimally. We have implemented this technology in 3 villages in Bali, and it is well received as an innovation in garbage handling. By only using mobile phones, the community and waste workers will be able to integrate to build a circular economy from waste.
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
- Crowdsourced Service / Social Networks
- GIS and Geospatial Technology
- Imaging and Sensor Technology
- Software and Mobile Applications
We believe that to change systems and behavior in society, the introduction of new technology is not enough. we have to ensure that a series of activities from training, provision of support tools, and implementation run consistently so as to create behavioral changes that have a large impact on society.
Not only develop applications, we also enter the community to be able to improve the waste management system that they previously had. We conduct training and mentoring for waste collectors so that they are able to use the application in their daily work. In addition, training and mentoring are also conducted to village officials so that they can monitor the performance and schedule of waste collectors through a dashboard at the village office. Meanwhile, to create an integrated system between waste collectors, village officials and the community, we also conducted a new application for citizens to socialize them so that they are familiar with a good sorting and waste management system and can generate economic benefits. As summarized, in this phase and activities, we want people to understand the importance of waste management as an effort to reduce the number of waste / food waste cases, and how to make waste become a new profit source. So they have a clear reason to start using the application as a waste management tool.
During the implementation process, we carry out monitoring to ensure that these new applications and systems truly provide more efficiency and benefits to the waste collector. By looking at the route recommended by the app with the impact felt by the waste collector while using this new route to ensure the efficiency after using the app. In addition, we also see the nominal money earned by the waste collector from the sale of waste after using, compared to before using the app to ensure that this app helps them to generate their income.
If the waste collector and the community have been able to consistently use applications and implement a new waste management system, then the circular economy of the waste sector will be formed in the community.

Currently we serve 669 households in Denpasar, our plan is to reach more than 3 villages. In 5 years, we wish we can reach several major provinces in Indonesia or 1 nation.
We developed a program that wanted to solve environmental problems, which had an impact on many people. Along with that, this application invites people to make waste as something that has a value. Thus, the community will not litter. Our plan is to develop this application to sustain, we will hold campaigns and promotions so that people know and can use our application. In the initial phase, we target the addition of several villages and afterwards able to cover a big city. If all goes well, in 5 years we will be able to cover several large provinces or even nationally.
The obstacle that we might encounter in the early stages is the lack of public brand awareness. so we have to prepare a large enough budget to carry out promotions and campaigns. We try to target all segments of the community (low, middle and high) to participate in using this application. Technically and operationally, if this application develops well, additional personnel and equipment will be needed to be able to replicate to other areas.
Early years, we will use grants to fund this program. We try to get revenue in the 2nd or 3rd year, after the user reaches the target that will be determined. Funding will be focused on technology development, marketing and operations.

The campaign is carried out through various media such as workshops, influencers, social media, webinars, and many events. We try to build sustainable programs by targeting all levels of society and the larger scope of the area.
To generate revenue, we will use premium features and advertisements. When launched, this application is a free application, and there will be some advertisements in it. As users, they can choose to keep using a free application that contains ads, or buy premium features to eliminate these ads. Possibly, we will sell some items also in the application, which can be digital items or goods processed from waste.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
In the first year, we will rely on grants to develop and promote this application. Once we have enough users, we will get profit through advertising and premium features. To make this a sustainable program, we will create another source of income while we run it.
We applying to solve to face the financial barrier. We need funding to carry out development and promotion. Funding is very important to support the running of our program. Solve can help by giving us funding by short-term (1 year) or long-term (3 years) funding or until we can generate revenue. To run and develop this program, this program requires around USD75,000 - USD100,000 per year.
- Product/service distribution
- Funding and revenue model
- Marketing, media, and exposure
The purpose of the partnership that we will build for this project is to expand the location of the implementation and use of the app. To achieve this goal, the parties that we hope to collaborate with are local organizations, public and private sectors who have the same concern to increase efficiency in waste management and build a circular economy from waste.
Organizations engaged in environmental issues.
We are trying to help the community and waste workers in increasing their income through waste. With the application that we created, it will be easier for people to utilize waste. And the industry will get new space in obtaining cheap raw materials. We will use The GM Prize on Good Jobs and Inclusive Entrepreneurship to conduct marketing & promotion, socialization & training, technology development, and operations. With the creation of a large community in the utilization of waste, it is expected to reduce the problems caused by waste to the environment, human life and its surroundings.
By using AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology, we develop applications to solve environmental problems that originate from waste. The environmental impact caused by waste is very dangerous for human life, the environment and its surroundings. With this application, it will reduce littering, and reduce waste that has accumulated in landfills. The technology that we developed is able to recognize this type of waste only by taking photos from a mobile phone. So that the community is able to sort waste and know the price obtained from the garbage that has been collected. Therefore, we are help the community and waste workers in increasing their income through waste. With the application that we created, it will be easier for people to utilize waste. And the industry will get new space in obtaining cheap raw materials. We will use AI for Humanity to conduct marketing & promotion, socialization & training, technology development, and operations.
