PPCR : Peace and Progress - Uganda
We are a soybean farmer and processing venture. We solving 3 major problems :
1.Extreme Poverty : 117,820 refugees are identified within our District, consuming products but not producing, they marginalized, underlooked, segregated and can not access jobs.Nutrition of their children is running starving situation since UNHCR- UNWFP stopped serving soybean products. This is added to the concurrent high rate of poverty 33% and 84% as rate of youths unemployment between 15 - 24 years old and 80% as adult rate of adult unemployment in Uganda; leading to extreme poverty for low incomes earners .
2.Scaring nutrition in Uganda : 78% of Ugandans are consumers of cow milk being source of cardiovascular, Tuberculosis, digestives, cognitives, diabetes serious diseases.
3.Segregation.
Solution: we are implementing soybean processing programs creating 209 Good and inclusive job opportunities and empowering 400 Soybean small holders as suppliers of Raw material to our Factory and enrich them.
ppcr FARM IN oruchinga refugee settlement Uganda has 45,7 millions of people including 1,4 millions of refugees. 84 % of Ugandan youths and 80% of adults are challenged by unemployment and 33% are challenged b extreme poverty. 10% of Ugandans are cardiovascular sick people, 90,000 new cases of Tuberculosis are identified, 900,000 cases of diabetes identified and our Researches incriminated cow milk high consumption amongst the major causes. Two factors are contributing to the problems we are solving :
1. Segregation and xenophobia : 1,4 millions of refugees do not access jobs, a refugee is considered like a sub- person even if he has skills and knowledge. They non productive consumers .
2. UNWFP assistance has stopped distributing soybean products and even the system is currently embodying empirism and ration or cash embezzlements and reduction.
We are serving the western region of Uganda with 9 millions people depending on Agriculture at 91 % , those not having land or having smaller landscope are condemned to deadly poverty.
Our solution is an implementation of a multidimensional Soybean program with 5 projects alleviating poverty, enhancing food security and community nutrition :
Project index 1: Empowerment of 400 Community Soyabean Small Holder Farmers ( CSSHFs ) who are raw material suppliers to our Factory.
2 project index 2: PPCR own Farm with 70 hectares of land scope producing 100 tons of soybean.
3. Soyabean products processing Factory ( dairy, oil, soybean and corn blend flour ) for young children and adults formulas etc. With capacity to unleash 209 good and inclusive jobs for refugees and national citizens.
4. Project index 4. Agricultural Financial Cooperative: giving out financial services to the 400 Community Soyabean Small Holder Farmers and the employees and other community members .
5. Youths Vocational Training Center with 6 types of training( computer skills, driving and mechanic, tailoring ,mixed saloon, Communication and languages, agriculture and Soybeans training to 1700 refugee youths and national youths who dropped out schools because of language barrier between English speaker teachers and refugee french speaker students then, bad conditions and lack of items in schools added to refugee parents socio economic issues in secondary paying schools.
PPCR empowering 400 small holder farmers
- 400 Soybean small holder farmers : 200 are refugees and 200 are nationals ( Ugandans ), we are empowering by trainings and skills, mentorship, farm inputs and capital as well as we get means. The target is to enrich them. We apply equality in all our interventions .
-Our Factory is unleashing 209 good job opportunities, partly refugees and partly Ugandans and others if needed according to skills.
- These youths after being trained they will need employment and our program is setting mechanisms providing jobs, financial services in terms of loans etc.
- Our program and project beneficiaries comprise all gender and focus on youths, women, refugees, people with disabilities empowerment.
To understand their needs we made assessment within our District, western region and Uganda at large .
- Enable small and new businesses, especially in untapped communities, to prosper and create good jobs through access to capital, networks, and technology
- empowerment of 400 Soybean small holder farmers grouped in network of 4 sections with 1 team leader ,1 agronomist and one supervisor . They are lower income earners and victim of human rights violations (segregation and xenophobia. We are mitigating they weaknesses and enable them to strongly stand by capitals, farm inputs, trainings and good market for they produces( our Factory ). They empowerment is the basis of sustainability of our solution manufacturing system in terms of raw material supply in abundant quantity (1000 tons of soybean. we can not work without them. PPCR empoering 400
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
- A new business model or process

- improving nutrition of 9 millions of people in western region of Uganda and 45,7 millions at national wide by large scalability on target .
- Skilling and providing knowledge to 1700 youths without segretion.
Our solution innovative considering the huge providence of benefits to the community, a single program fighting poverty, bad nutrition, food insecurity and human right violations. We unique Soyabean processing in western region of Uganda and the unique project intended by refugee initiative and led organization that has conviced the government of Uganda, the UN agencies and other stake holders to set up a big Factory in a refugee settlement. In Business development phase ,our program will have created 809 monthly remunerative good and inclusive opportunities.
Our existing technology is :
●a manufacturing system : processing milk, oil, flour and other products out of soybean

● Environmental protection technology : using degradable packaging for food products and recyclable glass bottles for beverages products.
Currently, our farm and farms of small holder farmers are using tractors in land plowing, we are processing soybean machines purchase ( threshers ,soybean processing machines and others equipment )
By February 2021 PPCR will have fully started manufacturing soybean products in oruchinga refugee settlement /Isingiro District /western Uganda.
- Manufacturing Technology
PPCR empowering 400 soybean small holder farmers
We have positively impacted our community by enrolling 400 soybean small holders whose part is refugee and part nationals. Every one has 2 acres of land scope and will produce 3- 4 tons of soybean by December 2020, supply to our Factory and immediately earn good cash comparing soybean price to other crops produce .We expect to buy from them 1000 at least by December 2020.
PPCR's own farm will procude 100 tons of soybean by December 2020.
By February 2020, our machines will have been fully installed in our building already on ground, operating and producing 24,000 liters of soybean dairy daily.
Our target is to quit from 50 tons of been to 100 per season and we want to chance the mentality of our consumers, to divert them from cow milk to soybean products with essential proteins usually to the dietary of human lives and livestock.
That is the phase where by the triggerd jobs opportunities will be unleashed with completion.

PPCR farm oruchinga refugee settlement
We are serving 9 millions of people currently, 45,7 millions in next year and at least 300 millions in 5 years ?
They include :
1.vulnerable class of people : young children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women, old people, disabled people, poor people and lower income people.
2.people affected by chronic deseases: 10% of Ugandan total population being 45,7 millions as cardiovascular affected people; 1,400,000 people affected by HIV/AIDS; 90,000 new cases of Tuberculosis;400,000 Cases of diabetes etc.
The target is to set up a nationally recognized brand by February 2020 and scale soybean products up to feeding with security and improved nutrition 45,7 millions of people in Uganda.
Create 209 job opportunities by 2021.
In 5 years this solution will be serving 300 millions of people in East Africa Community. That period is our business development phase that will be able to fully generate 809 monthly remunerative good opportunities to the community by our single solution.
This solution faces 3 types of barrier :
1. Insufficiency in capital inputs, farm inputs in empowering the 400 Community Soyabean Small Holder Farmers ( CSSHFs )
2. Soyabean machines purchase : our solution is self-funded one, having human potential but still lack additional financial inputs to cover its needs in terms of equipment and investment to warrant full manufacturing operations.
3. Climate change : The season rain fall is no longer reliable.
To overcome these barriers our solution plan is :
1. Affiliation of the 400 Soybean small holders to an Agricultural Financial Cooperative for acquiring small loans to help them in their own farms, eventhough it has limits?.
2. Machines purchase : PPCR is a self -funded organization, we are currently relying on our program produce to purchase equipment but processing requires enough resources.
3.Climate change : we look forward to set up a SMART Farm to ensure improved productivity using irrigation and modern other systems in the coming future.

3. SMART Farm: The season rain fall is no longer reliable for a relevant productivity. We look forward to set our farm to SMART standard, using irrigation and other modern systems.
- Solution technology
We need partners in solution technology considering that we are a manufacturing solution and a self - funded organization.
We are operating our efforts but the equipment, soybean machines that our solution requires are expensive, internationally sourceable and their installation need experts from the manufacturer. After installing them, that expert team will have to train our staff ,it increases again expenses . We need partners to support us in developing our solution and boost it to a real reality of processing allowing our solution to scale products to the prescribed standard defined in our business plan.
