HYDRO-GENERATOR GIVES POWER TO VILLAGERS

Electricity is a scarce commodity in Africa. About 75% of people living in Africa reside at rural and off grid villages where they engage in agriculture and cottage agro- processing activities. Lack of electricity reduces their standard of living and exacerbated poverty level. Lack of electricity and in ability to add value and increase their income. Being born  in this pathetic locality motivated us to invent hydro electric generator which will provide electricity for both domestic and commercial purpose especially agro-processing and related cottage factory . Our solution which we can replicate anywhere in the Africa and around the world will enable this off-grid and villagers to power their home, use ICT and home appliances and process farm produce and add value to live good standard of living, engage in various relevant cottage industries and increase their income for a better living and to break the poverty circle. 

Under Good jobs and inclusive entrepreneurship, our solution  provides electricity for people  living in rural  areas who are off grid and in hard to reach terrain. They will never be in the official plan of the both the Federal Government and the development partners .Through our invention we use local stream water and generate clean and low cost electricity for the community to create jobs  for artisans such as hairdressers, carpentry,  electricians, electronics and others  and for farmers and fishermen to process and add value to their products by roasting, drying, frozen and for cottage industries and for youth in handwork such as tailoring welder hair dressers to activate their artisan work due to electricity  These neglected group of people  who have been living in rural life without electricity for many years , with our solution of generating electricity with our hyro generator these people had opportunities  to use satellite TV, freezers and fridges ,mobile phones and other electrical and electronics devices. t impacted positively on social , economic and academic life of these people and their children especially the  students .The society and the nation at large will benefit.

Our invention is somehow new using local materials to solve the immediate need  for electricity. We have made the hydro generator and it has been tested and also used in a community for a period of 4 months and the response and the results were positive and fantastic , What is needed is  to construct  higher capacity required . 

PARTS OF THE DEVICE The hydro generator is made up of the following parts.  1. The DAM, which contains the water reservoir 2. PEN STOCK, which controls the water from the Dam to the Turbine 3. TURBINE, which rotates the alternator when water hit on it. 4. PULLEY SYSTEM, it connects the turbine to the alternator and also controls the rate of rotation of the system. 5. ALTERNATOR, it generates electricity when turning.

HOW IT WORKS-The river/stream is first dam, to store water energy. A penstock (a pipe that controls water) that controls high velocity water is laid from the wall of the dam to the Turbine (the mechanical part of the system) which converts water energy into mechanical energy that causes the rotation of the alternator (device that generates electricity) via the pulley system. Our solution serves the rural dwellers, the farmers, fishermen, the artisans and students who are living in remote areas living in remote, hard to reach terrain village in  Bokem Community in Cross River State Nigeria West Africa The beauty of our solution is that it can be replicated in any part of the world and Africa where electricity is a scarce commodity. Our Hydro generator was tested at Bashu Okpambe/Bokem community in Cross River State of about 6000 people who are predominantly farmers and fishermen with about 58 kilometer away from the national grid coupled and  hard to reach terrain due to bad road network. The social and economic well being of these farmers and fisher men will be transformed, they will be connected to modern society with the ability to charge and use modern GSM and other basic home appliances and also to use the electricity to process their farm products with semi automatic and automatic machines.  Many youth will like to stay at the rural to be engaged in various artisans and technical works All students will be able to do their home work and read in the night 

Nigeria is about 200 million people while Africa is about 1.5 billion. About 20 % of Nigeria and other African Countries have access to regular power supply . Also About 60% of Nigeria and African population reside in rural and remote areas engaging in Agriculture and agro processing .In the Village where we have tested our solution we have about 6000 people and we are ready to launch out to other villages in Nigeria Our solution will serve farmers, cottage industry, agro-processors artisans, students and all people living in rural off- grid areas to be included in viable economic activities

What makes our solution innovative is that we use local low cost material and which can be upgraded   and adaptable to various environment so far we can get a stream with a flowing water to dam. We are also working on using bore hole ground water to create artificial flowing stream to generate electricity in off grid rural remote and bad and hard terrain area. 

Currently the materials are locally sourced, and are very simple technology, low cost and affordable and clean energy for the low income farmers and villagers. Also it is a clean energy and environmental friendly. 

The cost of generating and running is very affordable and easy so the that the beneficiaries will be able to pay small fees to  pay for operational costs of running the system.

Also we are planning another innovative approach by using ground water bore hole to with reservoir to generative man made flowing stream water which can be damned , Also we are working on combining our hydro generator with solar with battery and inverter to make the energy sources more solid, reliable and renewable 

The Core solution that power our technology that power our technology is the rushing tide of flowing water . The rushing tide  will keep the turbine system rolling and generate electricity

During this period many artisans and cottage industries enjoyed free electricity with positive response and feedback for necessary improvement

In Nigeria Nigeria Electricity Regulation allows the generation below 100kW of distribution capacity, mini grids may or may not apply for a permit.

We plan to generate below 100 KW and this will be launched at 

BashuOkpambe / Bokem Community in Abo Clan, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, remote village of 58 km away from the National grid  with a population of about 6000 people.

With this about 2000 agro-processing businesses will be connected with more than 100 thousand tons of food to be processed. Also more that 50 cottage industries will be connected. Also about 1500 artisans such carpenters, barbers, tailors and others will also be connected. More than 2000 new jobs will be created while more than $100,000 dollars income will be generated in quarterly basis. Furthermore the standard of living will be improved, 4000 households will be able to use mobile phones and other house appliances 

Currently we tested our pilot at BashuOkpambe / Bokem Community in Abo Clan, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State more than 3000 people were connected including artisans, cottage industries and agro processors 

However we plan to extend the coverage to 6000 and above if all the funds needed are

secured. In year 2 we plan to install in a new location and to extend the services to more than 8000 people living in the remote and off grid locations in Nigeria. In the next 5 years we plan to open more 4 locations and more states to reaching more than 15,000 people and businesses for people who have never used electricity in their villages and home before.

We plan to work with government to increase our capacity to generate higher capacity and to reach more people within the next 5 years to bring more vulnerable women and youth to generate more jobs for them. 

Our goal are to upgrade our technology, upgrade  our capacity so that we can reach as much more than 15000 people who had lost hope of living a modern life of using regular electricity either for their businesses or at home for domestic needs . 

Also we plan to extend and install our hydro  power generator 3  more locations and states in Nigeria  We shall initiate to extend our technology to other neighboring countries such as Benin, Togo and Ghana to reach more people living in off grid rural areas to have clean and affordable electricity for their small business based on each country extant laws  and regulations .

As stated earlier, our major constraints are funding, government regulations, and other technical issues. 

We are a group of young and dynamic curious minds with passion to solve the hardship neglected people suffer through their life time because they life in the rural areas off grid. Our Major constraint has been funds of which if funds are available major technical issues will be solved. Other challenges are government regulations and permit which we can overcome by complying with them.

We know  we can  increase our technical capacity also to upgrade our invention there is always a room to improve and this will be done through local and international partnership and support .

We plan to overcome finance and funding barrier through our sustainability plan of charging small fees  for maintenance and sustainability 

Also we plan to comply with government policy and regulations and exploit the areas that will favor us .  On other barriers such as  technical and others we shall develop good cooperation and partnership with various relevant organisations development partners and other renowned leaders in the field  of hydro power  and turbine technology to learn and improve our technology for better and quality service to our clients and to  reach more people efficiently  and effectively 

We are not part of any larger organisation we are efficient small organisation with dynamic  experienced and dedicated team members ready and well equipped to deliver expected results if we are selected

We are very well positioned to deliver , We invented the technology we owned it , we have tested the pilot stage it worked and deliver the expected results and the impact was positive and we have the support of the community and necessary government agencies and we are also discussing with key partners 

Currently we have show cased our inventions to Local Goverment in the state and they are promising us , We have done presentations to private University in Nigeria and other partners 

Our Business model is to install our government approved capacity without approval to off grid people for both small scale  businesses , cottage industries and domestic users and charge the beneficiary the amount that will recover the variable costs and other cost that will enhance sustainability growth and expansion of the business. However the fees with be sensitive to the environment we operate and the ability of the beneficiary to pay .

Also we shall engage in other activities to generate income for sustainability such as partnership with various interested development partners and agencies . We shall also engage in business and cottage industries using our electricity to generate jobs for the vulnerable women and youth and for maintenance ,and expansion of the project 

we shall charge subsidized fees to the beneficiaries .Also we shall engage in other activities  such agro processing, equipment rental  rendering related services such cold room and logistics to generate income for sustainability such as partnership with various interested development partners and agencies . We shall also engage in business and cottage industries using our electricity to generate jobs for the vulnerable women and youth and for maintenance ,and expansion of the project 

I am applying to solve the problem of lack of electricity for the almost 60 % Nigerians and Africa population living in the remote and hard to reach terrain rural villages . Our solution is the clean electric power for both domestic and commercial purposes . 

1 am applying to secure both financial and networking for investors and technical partners to support us to incorporate many of these people into both good livelihood and also to uplift their standard of living through the provision of clean, affordable and regular electric power. 

As stated earlier we applying in order to seek for funds in form of grants, equity and debt and also for connecting us with the investors , foundations organisations and development partners who will be interested in our technology  and will assist us to realize our objectives to provide economic opportunities for these neglected set of people

1 . To seek partners with funds to execute and implement the roll out of our technology 

2 To have investors in form of  both equity and debts just to ensure that we realize the project fulfillment and also lighten the economic life of the people who had been living in perpetual darkness throughout their life 

3 Our slogan is it is better  to share elephant than to own a goat we belief in the theory of synergy that 2 + 2 = 5  and also two good people  is always better than 1 

In summary we need both financial and technical partners

We are looking at organisations who have been in business of rural electrification and mini grid using both solar and hydro generator to promote agric and local artisans and cottage industries 

We want to partner with them in form of 

1 Investors with both financial and technical capability so that they can support us to roll out the project for the rural people who are not in the government and development partners programme 

As started earlier we have capability  to use artificial stream to power our hydro electric generator where there is no natural river  or stream to generate light for people living in the refuge camp . Also  to use solar system to install bore hole water system for refugees . Also we can quickly train refugees some income generating activities to generate income and jobs either in their camp or with their host community such as rearing of broilers or production of soaps or teaching them on installation of solar system etc. So that the refugees can be economically viable and to live a decent life 

We have a innovative model for women which empower women with technical skills and access to tools and funds with other necessary support such market development to make women economically independent and self reliant . Such technical knowledge in form of  production skills , technical service skills such repair of Motor vehicles , Smart phones and others technical skills of production and agro processing and other cottage industry and link them to access both tools and funds and support then on market development

As stated  earlier the model of technical skills with support  to acquire  both modern tools and fund and assist the new entrepreneurs on market development will always work , it can never fail with always promote and enhance inclusive entrepreneur and create income and jobs and ultimately reduce poverty and unemployment especially among our youth  globally
