Transition University

Transition University is an online app that uses creative arts/performing arts as a tool to prepare talented young people from low income backgrounds with the skills to start up their own creative enterprise or gain employment in a creative enterprise.

Transition University is an online application derived from an annual project currently being run by Street Project Foundation - A 3week boot camp that uses Creative Arts/ Performing Arts as a tool to facilitate opportunities for youth engagement and employment. 

Research has shown that people learn easily and subconsciously during play. Creative Arts brings on board the element of play missing in our Education System today especially in Africa. Young people get the opportunity to build their critical thinking skills through Improvisation Tasks, they learn Team Building through group Performances, they learn effective communication through script writing and reading. Soft Skills training that isn't available to 60% of the youth population in Africa. 

This App is being designed for young people between the ages of 16-25years. It is a fun tool that allows them Create performances remotely and collaborate with like minds. 

The App will consist of modules in Music, Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, Poetry, Film Making, Communication and Values Training. It will be designed to allow facilitators of each module access to interact with participants and opportunities for video lectures. Participants will be assigned tasks and they get to upload their activities for review. 

For each module completed, participants will be awarded a certificate. 

Participants who complete the entire module, will get the opportunity to intern with a Creative Businesses for a period of three months. It is expected that after the training and placement, that the participant will secure a job or acquire the tools necessary to start a creative business. 

Transition University, is an app designed with scale in view. The plan is to test run in Nigeria and West Africa and gradually roll out to the whole of Africa. 

Over 62% of Nigerians live in extreme poverty with youth 35years and under constituting about 70% of the population. This is just a reflection of the unemployment of a youth population in Africa that is over 60%. The curriculum being used in schools today are not relevant to the jobs of the future that will enable our youths rise above poverty.  

When talented young people are discovered, trained, mentored and given a platform for expression on a creative/performance driven platform, they are empowered with the soft skills and grit necessary for the jobs of the new age. 

By year 2025 we project that 1million young people in Africa will be trained in soft skills for the future.

We are using Creative Arts/ Performing Arts as our tool to deploy the soft skills training using the App.

After the training, participants who complete the module get the chance to intern with a creative organization. 

The trainings will be prepared by Faculty Members who are vast in the subject and are well known in the varied fields. Participants will be able to interact with faculty members on the app and ask relevant questions. Participants will get the opportunity to work remotely with other participants, upload videos and share their write ups for feedback. It is a collaborative space. 

The Application will be free to download. 

There will be free basic modules and as they advance, they modules are paid for but are affordable to unlock.

We currently run physical workshops, which people pay to attend every month. Our participants create artworks that we sell and share the income. We also receive grants for execution of our projects from time-to-time.
