Daily, nearly 50,000 unemployed youth who present themselves for job interviews and internships in Edo state, Nigeria get rejected. Yes, it's that bad! According to research by Jobber-man, just 40% of Nigerian University applicants have chances of been admitted. Unfortunately, over 47% of this fraction will remain unemployed upon graduation annually.
In 2006, the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime also estimated that over 94% of girls trafficked to Europe are from Edo State in Nigeria alone. Ose was 25 year old Edo lady, who graduated with a 2.1 (out of 5.0) and yet, kept being rejected due to poor knowledge of soft-skills required by employers. Unfortunately, while waiting idle for her dream job, she got introduced to sex-working, unfortunately got pregnant and got her career dreams aborted.
Unfortunately, this is the case of most graduates (especially ladies) who are idle in Nigeria, who are clouded with the fears of an unforeseen future. This has greatly affected those from average or poor background and has within the past 1 year, accounted for Nigeria's highest suicide rate in Africa and sixth globally according to W.H.O. Hardly a week passes now, without a youth attempting or committing suicide in Nigeria.
