HERE'S THE SOLUTION
CHALLENGE : According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), food waste is responsible for 8 percent of global human-made greenhouse gas emissions. In low-income countries, most loss occurs during production, while in developed countries ,it is wasted at the consumption stage.
OPPORTUNITY : Places experiencing food waste on a large scale like restaurants , dorms , markets , residential areas (the places where food consumption is done more) etc .
SOLUTION : To convert food waste from urban areas into manure and other useful things like animal food , bio-gas . Urban areas produce food waste due to more population density and high rate of consumption .
FEASIBILITY : The idea can be applied to areas where food waste is being processed and the source for food waste is actually abundant on this planet and could be found where a man lives. Food waste also result in water-waste
As per the challenges addressed in the problem , the three main aspects which we have concentrated are food wastage, land usage and the emission of green-house gases . So we are trying to solve the issues regarding food wastage and land usage such that their contribution to the green-house gas emissions is decreased . As per the stats we have gathered , we understood that the scenario of food wastage is far more different from our imagination. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization , food waste is responsible for 8 percent of global human-made greenhouse gas emissions. According to the United Nations Development Program, up to 40 percent of the food produced in India is wasted. An estimated 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted globally each year, one third of all food produced for human consumption . Though the factors are a bit simple which causes food wastage , they all together create a troublesome situation and some of those factors are : Lack of appropriate planning , Purchase and preparation of too much food , Over-preparation of food in restaurants, hotels and the food service industry,Over-merchandising and over-ordering in food stores and supermarkets, Consumer behavior
Our solution primarily deals with food waste and includes a team who are engaged with the tasks : Gathering food waste from residential areas, hotels, dorms, canteens etc , converting the gathered food waste into animal food , manure and bio-gas , proficient in controlling and maintenance of the bio-gas plant .The process how the solution works is simple and as follows
A digital application will be provided and if food waste is generated anywhere we need to capture a snap of the waste and provide it's location in the digital application. It is transported to us and will be processed into the required products .
The food waste will be dumped into an automatic shredding machine , which turns the waste into a fine particle powder . Also if the food waste is good the water from the food will be extracted out by ovens and it will be air-tight packed. The products from food waste will be trade to the required and thus revenue can be generated from it.
Bio-gas will be generated by a tank where the manure and waste are mixed in before being heated and pumped into the machine in which the bio-gas is produced.
The problem of food wastage kept on increasing day-by-day equal to the increasing population rate and it's not being regulated . The solution serves about not only in reduction of food wastes but also in reduction of carbon emissions ,to provide employment and land utilization.The solution targets farmers , by producing manure and animal food and also the solution focuses on recycling the urban food waste and provide the required manure to agriculture-prone areas . Farmers in a country like India are facing many harsh conditions to produce food and the solution definitely changes the lives as we can see that it is not only collecting the food wastes but it is also creating employment and it is helping in reduction of release of green house gases. As we can provide some important things like manure and animal food to the farmers , it becomes a two way process as they might provide us with food waste provided at production areas to be processed into useful things.Food-waste includes various chemical elements such as starch,cellulose,protein-lipids,inorganic salts and N,P,K,Ca,Mg,Fe,K some trace elements. Turning food-waste into manure creates economic and environmental benefits, which can improve soil health,reduce erosion and improve water-quality.

As per the selected dimension , we are trying to reduce food waste percentage and turn it into things useful for the agriculture and at the same time we are creating some revenue through this process . So the targeted population (farmers) will be provided with useful manure and animal food for cattle and also the problem of food wastage will be reduced eventually leading to decrease in the emissions of green-house gases . Also, if we consider the effect of pandemic ,it can provide employment to people through transporting food-waste , creating products from food waste and generating bio-gas.

Our solution includes a new approach of reducing food-waste by digitalizing it and recycling it to an extent such that green-house gas emissions are decreased. The problem with which we deal with might be simple but could turn the odds into even and provide a sustainable environment.

The problem has an open source to access and the problem could be solved by including many types of solving procedures , from which ours might be one.It doesn't require special attention to pay , because our everyday routine starts with food and end with food. So,there is a high scope for solving the problem by adopting simple techniques.
