Empowering nation’s new generation to understand the process, have the ability to analyze and strengthen what they have learned through cheap educational kits which based on design thinking methods.

DASAR – means ‘an essential foundation of a subject or knowledge’ in Bahasa Indonesia – is cheap-with-high-value educational kit which created from a collaboration between designers, schools and educators.

DASAR EduKits have various tools for many basic knowledge subjects that will be be applied as an extracurricular program for schools or even summer school programs; Both theory and practicum will be instructed from DASAR EduKits so that children’s basic knowledge will be formed and enhanced around research, experimenting, process and problem solving. 

Common public & private school in Indonesia have a specific curriculum that they have to comply. In Indonesia, teaching methods are usually based on memorizing, not understanding. The impact of this teaching method is that Indonesia have big numbers of well-skilled generation but not thinkers. By adding new learning methods (design-thinking) from the beginning of education path, we will create a better generation who’s not just become doers, but they truly understand how things works and become thinkers as well.

Design thinking is not something new, but it is limited and fairly new to developing countries such as Indonesia. 

Rather than focusing on design thinking as a method for creative professionals, we are driven to introduce this method as early as possible; Targeting from the youngest children in primary education so they would have a higher empathy and analytical thinking, and as such, both emotions and knowledge can deliver impact across the region and the world because we could connect on each other better. 

• With how easy access to information nowadays, younger generation are opt to fast solution rather than process, because everything is at a touch of their fingers
• Specifically in Indonesia, we are taught since elementary school to memorize and most of the lesson taught will differ from test given, which drives the student to rely on internet and friends for finding the correct answers, not understanding why the lesson are taught.
• Teacher-Students relations lacks of communication: 1 out of 20 students can rely on their teacher guidance to help them understand what they are learning

- By teaching students design thinking methods, they have greater empathy and thinking skills which produce more innovations from wherever they are to years ahead.

- By creating DASAR Edukits, the education will become more impactful, which in result producing a deeper communication and engaging learning process that benefits both teachers and students.

Local government and Indonesia as a nation since we will have more innovations from the thinkers. In the end, this action will increase our GDP and economic growth.

A change in the education curriculum through the Ministry of Education - Better educators across the nation

The educational kit must not be expensive, which the innovation lies on an easy-to-get ingredient (most likely paper based) and easily reproduce in a cheap price so people can afford it.

Interactive learning and internet, though in rural areas, internet will be hard to access, so hands-on is our best bet for our solution.

For Indonesia, we will work with partners that has access to rural areas such as Ruang Guru, Indonesia Mengajar,etc. We will try to look for similar partner in other parts of the world.

Human Resources (educators to teach design thinking) and maybe resistance from schools and existing educators
