Sustainable living solutions
In the communities across my nation there is alot of suffering the biggest challenges is hunger which result in low food production due to lack of inputs to feed the soil and lack of knowledge, prices for chemical fertilizers is beyond reach for majority , this in the long run create poverty and diseases . My project is looking at addressing these challenges .
The solutions proposed is production of organic fertilizers by using available local resources ie animal which mostly every household has .And locally grown plants that are reach in nutrients need to feed the soil for good yields .
The solutions can change lives as it will make every household to afford to grow enough food and excess the can sale to reduce or eradicate the effects of poverty . The tools to be used are permaculture and organic farming principals which can be scaled up globally
The specific problem am solving is hunger this is not only lack of staple food but generally having nothing to eat . The population which is affected is 50 % country wide , the idea is to start within the catchment area of 800, 000 families and scale up to other districts.
reference for the hunger impact
Factors that are contributing to hunger
* High cost of chemical fertilizers which majority cant afford to buy.
* Lack of knowledge to produce organic fertilizers by using locally available resources
* Presence of other organisations that gives food handouts and cash transfers however not in sustainable way .
* Post harvest losses
* Poor extension services
* Lack of clear and effective government policies
* Lack of infrastructure development
* Lack of irrigation technologies for the rural people
* climate change that results in erratic rainfalls
The solution is to equip people with skills in peramaculture and organic farmers .
Permaculture is simply permanent agriculture it revolves around 3 ethics , care for people , care for earth and fare share . Example most farmers the burn whatever is left after harvesting .They don't consider that in doing so they are damaging soils and polluting the air besides they are supposed to share back into the soil the agriculture waste . With training people will realise that they actually burn money and their livelihood .
Organic farming uses methods of producing food without using chemical fertilizers which are very expensive.It uses mostly things are thrown away and considered as waste.
The processes in permacuture and organic farming are in producing health food , promoting seed saving culture as mostly hybrid or shop seeds are unaffordable to many . It uses waste from agriculture and animals to make manure through composting processes , which at local level does not require machinery. It promotes production of organic vegetables as relish. It has a self regulatory cycle , waste produces manure to feed soils then soils produces food for people and animals waste turns back to soils
The target population is the rural communities who are mostly vulnerable and often times depends on handouts from non governmental organisations , government , well wishers and charities. Mostly will be the widows, aged , orphans and marginalized people . I have worked with some families as models helping them to set up gardens and the trials has been very successful. I have engaged them allowing them to identify their problems and work out possible solutions and support them in bringing in simple innovations and see together the results . The solution will direct address their needs as they have locally available resources to start with mostly it requires their energy and no money involved . Going forward is self regulatory concept and sustainable . The knowledge sharing component enables the solution to address challenges to the generations to come . It solves other world issues like permaculture promotes reafforestation which preserves water and mitigate climate .Solves social challenges like theft as most people will have food .
- Promote the shift towards low-impact, diverse, and nutritious diets, including low-carbon protein options
The problem is hunger and poverty to be addressed and the solution is to equip the people with knowledge and skills of solving these.The target population has no permanent solutions to their problems , This solution will solve their problems permanently is cheap , self regulatory , specific , measurable , realistic and timely . It will look at their strength which is land availability and their energy , the weaknesses being lack of skills and knowledge , opportunities the availability of my organisation to equip them.
- Scale: A sustainable enterprise working in several communities or countries that is looking to scale significantly, focusing on increased efficiency
- A new technology
Its innovative as it provides solutions to series of challenges its self regulatory and its permanent .
The competitors are the non governmental organisations , charities that gives handout to the target groups for free.
Its unique as the competitors are seasonal and it leaves more periods without assistance. While my solutions works round the year and it gives surplus.
Its unque as people will see the results as a last solutions that handouts .
The core technology used is irrigation using drip or flooding. It will use also biodigesters that produces gas for cooking and lighting and produces manure as waste product that is used in farming activities

The plan is to set up a training centre so as to carter for more people , there is going to be field training as well as in house training. Will partner other NGOs will similar initiatives by doing gaps filling .
To have meaningful impact will train Lead farmers and use village chief and have models within each rural set up.
The specific barrier to achieve is the finances to construct the training centre
The resources present is the land and the bricks to be used for construction
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
Full time 3
Part time 1
Contractors 3
Strength for the team
* Fully trained and experienced in Permaculture and organic farming
* Have all background in agriculture and lived in rural set up and appreciated the needs of others
* Team has marketer , chartered account for finances and accountability
* An agronomist
* Comprises of locals and international members
* Diverse in knowledge
* Exposure to technologies
* Hands on experience and demonstration
So far we have partnered with Canadian , physicians, aid and Relief - CPAR
and SCOPE - Malawi we are implement their permaculture in schools and household models
We are implement their schools program in greening schools and training pupils to replicate in their homes
Business model
The project has a positive impact on livelihood and social status , economically they will be empowered. As skills and knowledge acquired will enable them to produce surplus produce for food and some for sale .
The key customers in the people in the communities themselves will be beneficiaries so to the government and environment .
The products/ services will be training which they will acquire skills and knowledge .They are needed as they are the beneficiaries and main players in the project .
People that will be visiting the demonstration farm will be paying a fee , all farm produce are sold on profit and those wishing to get trained as a career will pay training fees .These will make the centre self sustainable
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
