Jehushaya Enterprise
We are solving the problem of high rate of malnutrition in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa using fish farming. We train young passionate sustainable entrepreneurs on fish farming so as to meet up with local demand and combat the menace of malnutrition. We build their intellectual capacity through immersive learning and linked them to global opportunities.
High rate of malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa, use of formalin as preservative for fish during transportation into Africa, inadequate knowledge on fish farming and growing population. According to World Health organization, there are 821 million malnourished people globally and about 500 million of them live in sub-Saharan Africa. 45%dead among children in sub-Saharan Africa are linked to issues of malnutrition. (W.H.O 2018). 3out of 5 malnourished people live in sub-Saharan Africa (UNICEF 2019). In Nigeria 300,000 children die annually due to malnutrition (W.H.O 2017). Here in Nigeria, there are 13 million malnourished people suffering from chronic malnutrition (W.H.O 2018).
Secondly, Formalin a very dangerous chemical used in hospitals to preserve dead bodies is also used to prevent fish from deteriorating during transportation and this explains why sicknesses and disease dominate sub-Saharan Africa. The end product of using formalin on fish is cancer.
We train young, passionate and sustainable entrepreneurs on fish farming using all forms of technology so as to combat the menace of malnutrition, inflation, importation and also meet up with the growing market demand. We also rear quality, healthy and disease free fish for the local market but the market is too large for us alone.
Nigeria is world fourth largest importer of fish after United States, Japan and China. Nigeria spends over 0ne billion dollars on fish importation annually. (Nigeria Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, August 2018). Strong demand for fish is working in the industry's favor.
Nigeria consumes 3.2million metric tons of fish every year, with 65 percent representing 2,520,000 metric tons imported. This shows that the market for fish in Nigeria is huge and with population growing at 5.7% annually, the market will continue on the upward trend. It is obvious the opportunity here is huge and the market is too big for us alone. With a population of over two hundred million (200,000,000) people and an estimated national population growth rate of 5.7% per annum , average economic growth rate of 3.5% per annum in the past five (5) years except 2016 due to recession, Nigeria is a large, expanding to sustainable market for fish.
- Promote the shift towards low-impact, diverse, and nutritious diets, including low-carbon protein options
We're not only rearing fish to make money for ourselves but also empowering sustainable entrepreneurs through capacity building, thereby equipping them with adequate knowledge for productivity and self-sufficiency. Our intense passion is combating malnutrition in sub-Saharan Africa using fish. Some of these people we trained haved established their farms and are doing well. As a result of our training and mass production, one kg of fish which used to be sold for $ 2.59 is now $ 2.07 yet demand is ten times higher than supply. More people now afford fish in their meals.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth
- A new application of an existing technology
We're creating sustainable jobs by empowering people who will later become breadwinners in their families. We're contributing to the GDP of Nigeria through taxes and also increasing the value chain. In this industry there is no direct competition because of the demand. Once the fishes matured, there are customers who are ready to buy the fishes immediately. While some customers came all the way from the South to buy and dry them.
We're applying state of the art facilities and technology managed by decades of industry specific expertise to create a competitive advantage for our customers. This process produces disease free and healthy fish for customers/consumer which also help us reduce costs and creating a clear pricing edge among our competitors. In recent times, there has been strong demand for our product. Traditional buying pattern in this industry are based on quality, price, reputation of the producer, delivery times and proximity to the markets. During such a seller market, buying pattern are more influenced by availability. Meanwhile, internet marketing and our aggressive focused marketing campaign with clear goals and strategies is a major advantage.
Ours is a tripartite value chain. We produce the feeds, fish juveniles and also channel the waste water to our farm for more production. You see, this business is in line with global food security vision wherefore the use of sophisticated machines and chemicals in food processing is highly discouraged. Sickness and diseases emanates from the food we eat at the liquid we drink so we here are very careful because some technologies bring more harm than good. It's not just about innovation but it's also about food security.

The future of a business lies in the numbers of loyal customers that they have the capacity and competence of the employees, their investment strategy and the business structure. If all of these factors are missing from a business (company), then it won’t be too long before the business close shop. One of our major goals of starting Jehushaya Enterprise is to build a business that will survive off its own cash flow without the need for injecting finance from external sources in no distance time.We know that one of the ways of gaining approval and winning customers over is to offer our product a little bit cheaper than what is obtainable in the market and we are well prepared to survive on lower profit margin for a while.
Our product which is mostly catfish is already in the market. We have existing customers and are currently generating income though the Corona virus pandemic has thwarted many things apart. We ventured lately in 2017 with initial capacity of 2500 fish but today we have expanded to 10,000 capacity. We have successfully increased local production in Kaduna as the city no longer transport fish from either Lagos or Ibadan. According to experts fish supply in Nigeria will drastically reduce due to the pandemic.
We want to train 5,000 people within the coming months and equally generate a significant ROI for ourselves and our investors. We intend to train 25,000 people and generate $1,000,000 as income by 2025.
