Clean Water Wave GOES organic
Most waste water is discharge back to the environment, along with micro-plastics, pharmaceuticals and toxic chemicals. Hydrophobic toxic chemicals combined with micro/nano plastics is destroying planktonic oceanic ecosystems. Oceanic primary productivity and the life support system for the plant will collapse within 25 years, as dictated by the rate of change of pH.
I design the larges public aquaria life support systems in the world, so I know there will be a trophic cascade collapse and 90% of humanity will be impacted.
My proposal is to combine a wastewater treatment system with aquaculture and hydroponics and use a molecular sieve water filter media manufactured from recycled glass bottles to close the loop and provide bio-desalination and drinking water. We can take a peri-urban environment, eliminate pollution, provide 25% of the food and feed back 100% of the water.
Oceanic pH will drop to pH7.9 in 20 years, data from IPCC. As a Marine Biologist for the last 40 years designing and operating some of the largest marine aquaria and aquaculture systems in the world, I know for sure that at pH 7.9, the systems can not be maintained.
The worlds oceans will all reach pH 7.9 in 20 years, at which point there will be a trophic cascade collapse of the entire marine ecosystem. Life on earth depends upon life in the oceans, but in 20 years we reach a major tipping point and the survival of humanity may end up in the balance. We will definitely lose all of the whales, seals, birds, most of the teleost fish and the food supply for 2 billion people. We also lose carbonate life forms from the plankton and climate change accelerates and becomes unstoppable.
Climate change is not just caused by the burning os fossil fuels, this is perhaps 15% of the problem, but it has received 99% of the attention. Fossil fuels add 35 Giga tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere every year. The terrestrial CO2 flux is 4000 Giga tonnes, so mans contribution is less than 1% of nature.
We have destroyed 80% of all terrestrial insects, and 60% of oceanic primary productivity. Biomass, diversity and productivity are confirmed to be declining at a rate of 1% year on year. The terrestrial and oceanic ecosystem will both catastrophically fail in 20 years.
My solution is that we treat all waste water to a standard that can be used for aquaculture and aquaponics using serial lagoon extended diffused aeration with endogenous respiration. We treat the water at 2m/hr hydraulic velocity with AFM ( active filter media) from www.DrydenAqua.com in a CAFE filter www.CleanwaterWave.com and use the water in Eden Project bio-domes for protein and veg cultivation and bio-desalination. The water is then treated again by CAFE and recycled back as drinking water.
1 million of these system, eliminates 80% of the worlds pollution, provides 25% of the food and 100% of drinking-water.
Pollution discharge into the air and water is destroying the environment. Example, oxybenzone chemical used in sun-block and 3500 different cosmetics is know to kill plankton at 62ppt ( parts per trillion). The world manufactures 30,000 tonnes of this chemical every year, 20,000 tonnes if dissolved into the worlds oceans all at the same time, would kill all life in the oceans and destroy the planet.
Oxybenzone is but one of thousands of toxic chemicals, the most toxic of chemicals are hydrophobic and are adsorbed onto micro-plastic. The plastic is consumed by the plankton and this kills the plankton. The deepest part of the ocean ( Mariana trench) 11,000m deep has 50 times the pollution of the most polluted rivers in China. However if we remove micro plastics from wastewater, then we can remove most of the the most toxic of chemicals.
If we eliminate oceanic pollution, productivity in the oceans could recover very quickly and this would stop climate change. The oceans are by far the larges carbon sink on the planet and if we stop poisoning the environment then they can recover.
The project will therefore impact on everyone and every living organism and save the planet from destruction.
- Other
The target population is everyone in peri-urban and rural environments, it may also be possible to adapt for cities.
We are running out of water of suitable quality, it is becoming saline or polluted.
Pollution is impacting on marine ecosystems and destroying the life support mechanisms of the plant. The current rate of destruction as given by the rate of change or productivity and pH decline gives us 20 years, maybe 30 year at the out side for the almost total destruction of the marine ecosystem.
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
- A new application of an existing technology
Extended diffused aeration activated sludge system combined with phytoplankton water treatment and zooplankton cropping to achieve endogenous respiration for waste water treatment has rarely been practiced.
We recycle 50% of waste glass bottles in Scotland and Switzerland to produce AFM filer media that is used in the CAFE filter to treat the ewaste water and remove >99& of micro-plastics and hydrophobic chemicals as well as pharma.
The system is combined with www.EdenProject.com the largest bio-domes in the the world to create and ecosystem approach to aquaculture and hydroponics. The final effluent is again treated by AFM from DrydenAqua and CAFE filter from www.CleanWaterWave.com We can close the loop on wastewater, prevent pollution and make communities sustainable.
There are several biological and physical technologies to provide the solution.
Waste water processing at 1/20th of the cost of conventional process, yet much more effective
Aquaponics and hydroponics designed for bio-desalination
AFM active filtration using a CAFE filter that can treat all the water just using solar power to a standard better than WHO or European Commission.
As a planet we consume our resource for the year in 6 months. The planet is going to fail, and at least 90% of humanity will likely be lost in 30 years, unless we act now and eliminate toxic for ever chemicals.
1. Extended diffused aeration system using serial lagoons, algae and zooplankton has been used to treat around 50 landfill sites in the UK that generate grossly contaminated water. We have with 100% success transformed the waste water into a condition that causes zero impact on the environment.
2. AFM in a CAFE filter has been used for the tertiary treatment of municipal waste water by Scottish Water for the last 18 months. We have the verified and accredited data that confirms we have treated grossly contaminated waste water into drinking water.
3. At Dryden Aqua we are marine biologicsts and have designed many of the world aquarium life support systems. eh Istanbul, and Dubai Mall, a list of over 100 references can be supplied.
4. Eden biomes, are the largest systems in the world.
5.AFM water filter media is used in over 1 million water treatment systems are the world. The CAFE filter from www.CleanWaterWave.com ( I am a director of the social enterprise) has designed a new siphon filter to use AFM that will give drinking water.
Each part of the the process has been done, we now plan to combine each of the stages as one system
- Biotechnology / Bioengineering
We will never solve climate change by reducing CO2 emissions because we are destroying the planets life support mechanism.
Carbon dioxide concentrations are rising, but the most important factor is that we have largely destroyed the biological mechanisms from removing and sequestering the carbon. We need to reduce CO2 emmissions, but we must also elimante pollution that is destroying our environment. I refer mainly to the combination of hydrophobic chemicals and micro-plastics combiantion.
The solution to pollution used to be dilution, but when you have a hydrophobic toxic for ever chemical with a hydrophobic micro or nano particle distribution and cell membrane injection system, then there is no hope.
The time scale is accurate, unless we solve the problem in 10 years, the planet will be 90% dead in 30 years.

Not as yet deployed, but we will open source the solution. If this works it is not for one company or organisation because it has the potential to save the planet
We are working with Tim Smit of Eden project, they may deploy in up to 17 Eden projects around the world as a show case. This will give us a shop window of up to 100 million people a year.
Very few organisations or people understand or even see the problem. However we have lost 60% of all plankton in the oceans and from NASA et al this will be 90% in 20/30 years. The ecosystem is going to collapse, and in all likelihood no action will be taken before it is too late.
We are now at a stage where all the whales around Scotland can not breed because of PCB poisoning, we have the same situation in British Columbia.
All life on earth depends upon plankton, the plankton is dying but because the problem is hidden, it is likely we will not get traction and the planet will die

The core team is about 20, but we are networking with organisations such as Rotary.
We have the knowledge the technology and the right partners with Eden
This project must succeed, it is about making money, but the profits are put back into developing the solution. If we had had the money spent on Covid, then we could probably have solved the worlds waste water problem, drinking water issues, and stopped climate change and even the chances of another pandemic.
By way of example, New York has no drinking water treatment, it is all catchment area management, yet there is human and animal waste water entering the catchment area, We know for sure the coronavirus will survive for many days ion water, and that the drinking water supply is a vector for transmission. Could this be why NY was hit soo badly with covid?
From the Lancet, October 2017 Pollution and Public Health, stated that pollution is responsible for 3 times more deaths every year than AIDS, Malaria and tuberculosis combined, and 15 times more than from all wars and human violence. Yet we do nothing to solve this problem....
We stop them dying from toxic pollution and lack of water and give employment
