Retail Market
Most developing countries are faced with the problem of food insecurity. Using Nigeria as a case study, which is faced with lack of stability in food security thereby leading to inflation in price of foods, which also leave people (low incomers) to live on what they see and not what is healthy. Moreover, this foodstuffs are sold in an unhealthy and unhygienic environment.
Retail market is a business that tackle and solve this problems with the following ways:
- Create a well developed market with clean and healthy environment where this foodstuffs will be exhibited for sales.
- Create a price strategy where by low incomers can get good and healthy foodstuffs.
- Dominate the agric market in order to create a stable food security.
- Create job opportunities.
If this is achieved, it will bring stability in the agric economy not only in Nigeria or Africa but globally.
Achieving food security is central to a reduction in starvation and hunger as well as attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Nigeria is facing a lingering food crisis. Between 2008 and 2013, production of staple cereal foods declined by 11.8% from about 28.8 million tons to about 25.4 million tons. Also, spice and tomato production shrank by 1.7% and 14.1%, respectively over the same period . An observed decline in food production vis-à-vis a projected 2.7% annual population growth in the country poses a serious food security challenge. A recent joint stakeholders’ report on the food insecurity
Retail market is an agribusiness that serves as middle men between the farmers and the consumers, whereby taking their farm produce and exhibiting them to the consumers in a well developed market.
Retail market connects with the farmers associations, whereby serving as agric agents in order to bring their products to the final consumers.
Retail market is designed as a service and product oriented business, which means that, it give service to farmers and give products to the consumers. Retail market work hand in hand with local farmers and giving them the platform to sell their products in a well developed market and also in a good environment.
Retail market takes these farm products from the local farmers taking care of the cost of transportation, brings the farm product to the retail market store/depot for sorting, packaging and selling to the consumers.
Some farm products have low life span and when not gotten to the final consumers,it gets spoilt, so retail market with the help of food scientist will try to find solutions to increase the life span of this farm products. Retail market will also use agric technologies to help increase productivity and manpower on the farm.
The targets of Retail market are
- The farmers
- The consumers ( low incomers)
- The unemployed e.t.c
Retail market have done some research on this targets (and is still doing some research) and we have discovered and still discovering their problem, and with this problems (the little we have discovered), Retail market had to build on this problems by the following ways.
getting into contract with the farmers, get their products, taking care of the transportation (because that's the major problems faced by farmers) , we bring them (the farm products) into our retail store for sorting. After the sorting, we exhibit those products to the consumers .
Attached to these products, will be economic prices so that, there will be high demand for these farm products.
With these we create an opportunity for job employment.
- Improve supply chain practices to reduce food loss, scale new business models for producer-market connections, and create low-carbon cold chains
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
- A new business model or process
What makes my business innovative is the way we carry out our activities. Most of our competitors (in Nigeria) like ShopRite, Market square e.t.c. do not carry out their activities the way we do.
Most of them do not have platform for local farmers. They do no think low and medium incomers like we do.
This project is just at the idea stage but we are making out plans to carry everyone along, starting from the local our consumers (ie giving them healthy and quality food stuff) because the health of our consumers is our priority.
Our solution will be more of mechanical technologies which will aid in easy productivity. Some of these technologies are:
- Agricultural aircraft which is used in applying pesticide and fertilizer
- Agricultural robot for harvesting, picking, weeding,e.t.c
- Combine harvester for harvesting a verity of grain crops
- Seed drill
- Drones.
- Internet of Things
- Robotics and Drones
- Rural
- Urban
- Poor
- Low-Income
- Middle-Income
- 2. Zero Hunger
- 9. Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
- 12. Responsible Consumption and Production

In one year Retail market will serve 1000 people
And in five years, Retail market will serve one million people.
Our goals for the next five years are:
- create a stable agric economy
- create thousands of jop opportunities
- dominate the agric market
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
Still in idea stage, we are hoping to have numerous workers and staffs both full and part time.
We are looking at over hundred workers and over hundred staff at the Retail market both at the store and at the farm land.
We as promoters and the management of Retail market are well positioned to deliver this solution. The little skills we have aquired and also our background plays a major role and it's also our driving factor in creating this solution. Having the background of where foodstuffs are sold at a higher price, which can't be enough of a family of three. Moreover, most of these foodstuffs are sold in an unhealthy environment with low quality storage. With this background and experience, we are up to the task and we will be committed in carrying out this solution.
