Organic pesticides solution
The problem of food insecurity caused by caterpillar, wilt pest and locusts have raided and eaten up crops in the eastern parts of Uganda which could lead to food insecurity.Daily monitor of Tuesday, 11 feb (2020) points out of food security concern according to regional food security and nutrition working group East Africa is already experiencing a high degree of food security ,with over 19 million people experiencing acute hunger.
Organic pesticide as a solution will be processed by rural women household farmers in rural communities to help the crop protection program for food security. To promote the use of a combination of environmentally and locally friendly practices (hygienic, cultural, biological or natural control mechanisms and reduce reliance on synthetic chemical pesticides and ensure that health, social and environmental hazards associated with harmful pesticide is prevented,this will increase food security and reduction of hunger in rural and urban communities.

This affects rural house hold women,men, youth, and person with disabilities small scale farmers to progress in agricultural yields pests destroy crops and making it difficult to go to the garden. This is causing food insecurity and un employment in agriculture sector amongst rural people. National House hold survey UBOS report (2017) shows that people living in poverty now stands at 10 million up from 6.6 million with percentage of now at 27% including persons with disabilities. The report explains Eastern region (Busoga) as the hardest hit with poverty increasing by 27%. Argo-chemicals are expensive and humans exposed to high level of chemicals over time have chronic al illness after exposure like lunger cancer

To promote the use of a combination of environmentally and locally friendly practices (hygienic, cultural, biological or natural control mechanisms and reduce reliance on synthetic chemical pesticides and ensure that health, social and environmental hazards associated with harmful pesticide is prevented.The process involve collections of local plant materials,processing and branding through use of machinery. but currently women use local mortar to pound the solution.
The solution will serve rural house hold small scale farmers in rural communities of Uganda with particular emphasis of those affected with pest in their agricultural farms and gardens for example women,youth and persons with disabilities farmers groups.
The solution will help rural farmers gain high access and volumes of food staffs and nutritious vegetables for better health living and food security. Increase in gaining access to basic goods and services through sales of their quality agricultural products in the markets. 80% of rural women including persons with disabilities will be empowered and engaged in the value chain (processing, consumers, sales and distribution, marketing and branding which will increase employment, participation and reduces discrimination amongst women and persons with disabilities.

Through field visits made to rural farmers respective gardens using evidence based and work process analysis and sharing with the farmers they noted that they experience this problem. luuka District rural farmers too noted this outcry of caterpillar and wilt invasion to the local government authority with women having that unexplained fear of caterpillar. "so it makes difficult to go to the garden leaving them overgrown with weeds Nabirye. Newvision January 16,(2020) Pest invasion in the region would are destroying crops and vegetation’s Rural house hold farmers cannot afford the agro chemicals because Its expensive and pose health challenges .

The solution involve preparation and processing of organic pestcide from locally available plant materials with in the rich of house hold gardens and derived from local plants trees made by the farmers themselves, for spray on affected plants to kill pest and diseases ie Neem tree, red paper, garlic, ash ,alveolar, “mululuza”,celery makes the solution innovative. the involvement of inclusive participation in the value chain were we engage women and persons with disabilities participation makes our innovation also inclusive and innovative
The application and use modern machinery in processing and manufacturing of local plant materials for better Concentration of solution,branding and packaging
We did Sample testing of the solution with 100 women and pwds farmers groups with in their respective agricultural farms and gardens. Through work based analysis farmers noted that this solution works. This was assessed by district local government agricultural officer. See photo attached

This will enhance farmers to have inputs,skills and knowledge to improved food production for there communities. This will lead to increase in food production better nutrition and environmental health management , increase to employment generating increase in income through marketing of quality agricultural products.

100 groups of farmers totaling to 1000 farmers these are the ones trained and currently applying the solution on small scale with in there house hold.in one year we plan to reach 1.7million farmers 15million people.Through certification and application of the technology from the traditional one which is being applied by the household farmers groups
To increase production, supply and use of organic pesticide to rural small scale and house hold farmers in Uganda and other east African countries in general, this will enhance increase in food production and no hunger in rural communities of africa

I have trained and worked with rural small scale farmers in rural communities of Uganda in several agricultural enterprises addressing food security especially in organic agriculture and farming . our team has a professional experience in Dryland Resource Management, Soil Sciences, Agriculture Education and Project Monitoring and Evaluation including, expertise in developing curriculum for higher education (University) agriculture training programs. Climate Change Adaptation in Agriculture for graduate programmes as well as facilitation on contemporary topics on the Master of Vocational Pedagogy programme at Kyambogo University. We have done research in improving agricultural production and productivity through efficient soil and water management technologies and organic agriculture. Our model is an inclusive business model which generates core business benefits while supporting and improving the lives of low-income people and protecting the environment. The target groups will produce organic pesticide in different brands to meet the market need through the price based on product cost plus margin as we improve on our technology in order to cover overhead cost and operational expenses. This is used when the ne technology gives us a tremendous cost improvement.
