Tamboro Match
- Pre-Seed
Tamboro Match is a virtual platform made for the assessment and development of 21c competencies for the youth. It has an algorithm that evaluates and identify skills gaps, reduces these gaps through learning experiences and uses this data to find the best fit between employers and candidates.
Unemployment among young people is an issue affecting both developed and undeveloped countries. Brazil, for example, lives the contradiction that although the access to graduation programs has increased, the labor market still has difficulty in absorbing this workforce. Employers justify they are unable to find candidates with soft skills that are essential to thrive in today’s fast-changing environment, and that formal education institutions are failing to develop these competencies. We need to address this issue considering this scenario is just getting worst with the rapid changes in technology that are transforming the forms of employment all around the world.
The solution starts with the evaluation of how big is the gap that the user faces in several soft skills, and with the customization of learning paths based on the needs and desires of this user. It makes possible to match young candidates to job opportunities, comparing the skills level achieved with skills needed for job positions. The solution is based in two core concepts: technology – that gives us the possibility to collaborate in ways that are unprecedent - and skills – that are the base of our ability to navigate complexity and build and sustain a better world.
The solution impacts the labor market in each local community that it reaches through a virtual platform, both mobile and web-based and adapted to multi language. Employers will benefit from the availability of young candidates prepared to match job positions, resulting in better hires for less cost. And the young community will be better prepared not only for a job, but for their lives. They’ll benefit from outcomes such as the ability of communicating, focusing or handling emotions, which will help them to make choices, to adapt and to learn quickly in their works and in their lives.

The solution is innovative in the way it delivers learning per experience using games and collaborative activities. This practical learning is what ensures the development of skills, that refer to the ability to apply knowledge to specific situation and can’t be developed through strictly theoretical exposure.
It also uses an algorithm developed to address the challenge of measuring soft skills and to assure the match between job opportunities and candidates. The algorithm uses fuzzy logic and relies on data from different types of assessment, including peer assessment, which makes it more aligned to the concept of skills as applied knowledge.
The core of the solution is human-centered, since Tamboro Match was created to leverage social mobility through job access, specially among the youth. The young public was the inspiration and the research focus that guided the conceptualization, the design and the development of the solution. After launched and incorporated by each community, Tamboro Match continues to be focused in the development of their user’s skills and counts on the adoption by employers to provide job opportunities around each user.
Our solution is virtual and available both in WEB and MOBILE format, representing a great opportunity in terms of growth and of overcoming geographic barriers. Internet access is the only other requisite for the access and, fortunately, this rate is high and growing throughout the globe. In Brazil, for example 85% of youths already have internet access. The business model of the solution also makes the solution affordable for all, since employers will be financing the development of the youth community and will still be spending less than what they’re used to spend in selection and training programs nowadays.

During the research phases the team was sustained by two investment funds – “Leblon equity” and “VOX capital” - and benefited by commercial partnerships with two Brazilian enterprises – Saraiva and Ânima. This structure is also what is sustaining the team that is working on a local pilot of the solution. Currently we are addressing the challenge of finding new investment that will allow us scale faster and conquer new markets.
The internet access among our target is a factor that raises some concerns. Although we consider to have a positive scenario in Brazil, with 85% of youths with internet access, we still have a challenge regarding other countries that we plan to enter and even regarding these 15% that may be the portion that needs this solution the most. We’ve been studying on how to address this issue and some types of solutions have gained our attention, such as the FreeCharge campaign by Pepsi and other ad-supported models.

The first incentive to apply to solve was the alignment between the challenge that our solution is addresing and the challenge proposed by solve’s initiative. We think partnerships are important in this process of global transformation, and that the strength of a joint action creates potential for our solution to reach distant places in a faster and more effective way. We’ve counted on several partners to develop our solution so far and now we need new ones so that not only Brazil’s youth, but also the young community of other countries can count with a prime solution.
