Quantum Mind: Helping Feed the World
Quantum Mind (QM) plans to solve world hunger. Quantum Mind is a self-learning, open science, website platform, and satellite quantum system for small-scale producers to increase their crop yields. Quantum Mind has 2 components: Quantum Mind Space and Quantum Mind Earth. Quantum Mind Space is a satellite infused with a quantum computer that will collect real-time environmental data and plant needs. Quantum Mind Earth collates data, open science agricultural research, and self-learns, creating original and optimized agricultural solutions using predictive modeling. The effective solutions are stored in the solution database to be reused for similar problems in the future. Quantum Mind Earth will relay the solution to small-scale producers through its self-learning website platform, giving them access to knowledge and a designed path to take, to increase crop yields. The website (quantummind.ai) will go live now, then upgrade into quantum mode when the technology is available to us.
Since the beginning of time, humans have always struggled to properly nourish themselves. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization reported that about 815 million people around the world suffered from malnourishment, with 804 million people living in undeveloped countries. Around the world, poor nutrition causes 45% of deaths in children under the age of 5. Currently, many small-scale producers do not have the resources, mainly knowledge, to adapt to unforeseen environmental problems. These problems could include weather changes, or issues with soil content. The inability to solve these problems due to a lack of knowledge can significantly lower the crop yields of these small-scale producers. When the crop yields of rural small-scale producers are limited, many people living in the surrounding rural and impoverished communities will be unable to consume enough food to support their daily needs. Quantum Mind will provide optimal agricultural solutions to the small-scale producers, allowing them to access knowledge and a designed path to take to increase their crop yields. Quantum Mind plans to solve world hunger.
There are 2 main components to Quantum Mind: Quantum Mind Space, and Quantum Mind Earth. Quantum Mind Space is a satellite data collection system that takes in real-time environmental data, like soil content, weather patterns, and plant needs. Quantum Mind will combine the needs of small-scale producers, and previous agricultural research done, and use predictive modeling to create an optimized farming solution for each small-scale producer. This solution will be relayed to small-scale producers through Quantum Mind Earth’s website platform. If the solution is successful, Quantum Mind Earth can store the effective solution in its solution database to be reused for similar problems in the future. If the solution is not successful, then Quantum Mind will be able to modify the solution to correct it, and remember that the ineffective solution should not be used for similar problems in the future. Quantum Mind will regularly update with agricultural research, constantly trying to improve its solutions. The solution database, and the constant optimization of solutions makes Quantum Mind “self-adaptive”. Quantum Mind will provide the best solution for the problems of small-scale producers, optimizing their output to feed the world.
Quantum Mind (QM) first and foremost serves small-scale producers as well as the rural, and urban impoverished communities they live in. Due to the lack of economic resources and scientific knowledge, small-scale producers are unable to adapt to environmental changes and solve their agricultural problems. Relevant agricultural research is being done around the world, but most of it never makes it into the hands of those who need it the most. When these environmental changes affect crops, the outputs of small-scale producers are significantly decreased, so small-scale producers do not output enough to support their communities. Quantum Mind will solve this crop yield deficiency by collecting agricultural knowledge and environmental data, and using predictive modeling to provide solutions to the problems of these small-scale producers in real time, providing solutions to the people who need them most. By using our adaptive, self-learning platform that optimizes solutions, small-scale producers will be able to better support their communities through their newly increased food outputs. By improving the food outputs among impoverished communities, Quantum Mind will help to solve world hunger.
- Support small-scale producers with access to inputs, capital, and knowledge to improve yields while sustaining productivity of land and seas
Crop yields decide who will live and who will die. Quantum Mind (QM) is a global system to optimize crop yields in the most constructive way to feed the world. Quantum Mind’s target population are the small-scale producers and their communities which face environmental changes that severely impact their crop outputs. Quantum Mind will compile information from agricultural research and environmental data collected from around the world and create optimized solutions, providing small-scale producers with knowledge and a designed path to take to increase their crop yields. Quantum Mind plans to mitigate world hunger, creating a dignified global civilization.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
- A new technology
It is simply too inefficient to try to transport food to extremely rural areas of the world more than a couple of times. Although some organizations work with local, small-scale producers to teach them more sophisticated agricultural methods, this process is also too inefficient. It takes too much time, and it also requires a lot of unavailable manpower. Quantum Mind (QM) is a long term solution to tackle the challenge of world hunger on a global scale using the latest innovative technology.
Quantum Mind will integrate quantum computing, with satellite data collection, in order to not just take in data, but to provide answers and solutions to problems. Quantum computing is currently the fastest brain in the world right now, and we will use the beginnings of this new technology to create this brain of agricultural information. Using Quantum Mind, small-scale producers will be able to ask questions, and receive answers, allowing them to quickly improve their farming efficiency. This newfound communication between small-scale producers and this self-learning system that has a wealth of agricultural information will allow these small-scale producers to realize the problems of their farming, and provide them new, innovative solutions based on the individual conditions of each small-scale producer. Each solution could be different, but will all be optimized by the self-adaptive brain of Quantum Mind, leading to the best possible solution to resolve each problem.
Quantum Mind’s core technology exists in 2 locations: on Earth in the form of an open science website platform, and within the Quantum Mind satellite. It is a double mind. The system will take in all of the open science agricultural research, the needs of the small-scale producers, and satellite-collected, real-time environmental data.
Quantum Mind Earth (QME) is a self-learning, open science website platform being built now which collates data and self-learns, creating original and optimized agricultural answers (predictive modeling). The website will go live now, then upgrade into quantum mode when the technology is available to us.
Quantum Mind Space (QMS) is a satellite infused with a quantum computer that will collect real-time environmental data (weather patterns, crop forecasting, water management, plant needs, soil content, surrounding wildlife/insects, ecosystem). After collecting this information, Quantum Mind Earth will also be able to self learn from the collected data in order to formulate original, optimized, and efficient farming methods for small-scale producers in relation to their current and future environmental conditions using predictive modeling.
Firstly, regarding the global data collection satellite, NASA already has implemented this environmental technology. However, most of NASA’s projects using satellites for data collections are on a much smaller scale compared to a global operation. One example of this technology being used now is NASA’s Landsat 8. Landsat 8 is a satellite that keeps track of food supply produced by small-scale producers, in the United States. In addition, NASA also has satellites that collect data on water management, and crop forecasting.
The Mind of our system depends on the advancement of quantum computing. It is going to happen, and make an unimaginable change in civilization. Big companies like Google, Honeywell, Rigetti, Microsoft, IBM and D-Wave are all rapidly developing and improving their quantum computers and computing and service platforms. They are beginning to have applications in defense, healthcare, chemicals, finance, and energy and power. We at Quantum Mind will have the platform/website ready when this day comes, helping small-scale farmers and producers all over the world immediately to benefit from this technological revolution. Using qubits instead of bits to operate, quantum computers will be able to integrate and process vast amounts of knowledge and possibilities unlike any other computer before.

Since the beginning of time, humans have always struggled to properly nourish themselves. To a certain extent, as technology develops, we see hunger, poverty, and malnourishment rates go down due to the usage of this technology -- but not nearly enough. Too often in history, we see the evolution of technology being used to harm those who created it, humans themselves. We are entering a new technological revolution, and also a time when we can correct these technological mistakes of the past. I believe that in the future, technology has to be used in order to better others, not to harm them. From the very beginnings of these new technologies, they should be designed and created to solve the problems of the people. I am trying to use the beginnings of quantum computing to solve world hunger.
Small-scale producers are farming inefficiently, and are too vulnerable to environmental changes, which causes their efficiency to decrease further. Quantum Mind will be able to perform predictive modeling. This will predict day to day weather and climate changes for each small-scale producer around the world. Normally, small-scale producers may be ill equipped to deal with these weather changes, like excess rainfall, or a drought. Quantum Mind will allow small-scale producers to farm more efficiently during these weather changes, and provide them with long term solutions to prevent problems that the predictive modeling foresees will happen in the future.
By increasing global crop yields, the problem of food shortages and malnutrition around the world can be mitigated and soon removed. Because Quantum Mind will provide small-scale producers with the most efficient farming techniques and an decreased vulnerability to environmental change, the overall crop outputs of these small-scale producers will be increased. Once these crop outputs are increased, small-scale producers will be able to supply their communities with more food, decreasing malnutrition in their communities. Overall, by allowing Quantum Mind to improve the crop yields of small-scale producers, the severity of malnutrition and food shortage problems will be decreased.

Quantum Mind (QM) will help billions. The open science Quantum Mind Earth website will be available to the global community of small-scale producers, farmers, researchers, and activists, all those who wish to help feed the world. Quantum Mind Space is a concept at this moment, looking for integration with a quantum system and a satellite provider such as SpaceX or NASA. When this happens, Quantum Mind Space will be immediately activated to help feed the earth. In 5 years we want the full integration of the website platform, satellite and those communities quantum Mind can help most to be interconnected, creating real time solutions to solve our food crisis.
Currently we are looking to attract funding for the quantum aspect of Quantum Mind (QM). Within the first year we will have an ongoing agricultural database developed so that when Quantum Mind can go quantum, it can begin immediately. During this time, we will also compile a database containing information from small-scale producers, experts in agriculture all over the world, and other experts in quantum computing and satellites in order to ask them the best way to proceed with development on Quantum Mind. Our first aim within one year would be to link to research groups like Google’s Sycamore, D-Wave and Microsoft Azure to integrate Quantum Mind with a quantum computer. During our first year we will also build a bridge to NASA, SPACEX, the European Space Agency, and earth-i (https://earthi.space) to link QM to a satellite system. We will look for sustainable investment from Fsicon (https://www.fsicon.com), and the Brown University of Sustainable Investment (BUSIF). As for the goals of 5 years, our aim is to have a working quantum computing platform to help farmers and producers all over the world-- becoming their eyes and ears, and assistants in helping feed the world.
There are two barriers we would face regarding the goals we have set for ourselves. Currently, we do not have funds to develop Quantum Mind. Therefore, we will need to secure investment. There is also a technical barrier we must overcome to develop Quantum Mind. We need to form a partnership with a company that has a quantum computer, like Google, Honeywell, Rigetti, D-Wave, and Microsoft. We would also need to secure a partnership with NASA, SpaceX, or the European Space Agency to gain access to their environmental and agricultural data collected by their satellites.
In order to overcome these financial and technical barriers, we will reach out to Google, Microsoft, Honeywell, Rigetti (https://rigetti.com) Alice and Bob (https://alice-bob.com), D-Wave (https://www.dwavesys.com/), NASA, SpaceX, the European Space Agency, and Earth-i. They can help us with the integration of systems within Quantum Mind, and we can offer the advancement of quantum computing speed and analysis to their precision agricultural projects. These organizations have the resources, and we will supply them with the future: a predictive modeling, and self-learning quantum computer. We will also collaborate with university level research, like the University of California San Diego, Harvard, and Oxford, about incorporating quantum systems into Quantum Mind, optimizing Quantum Mind. Professors David Logan (Oxford), Ellie Carlough (Harvard), William Detmold (MIT), and physicist Alex Frano (University of California San Diego), do a lot of good research that is really helpful to us, and collaborating with them will give us a better idea of how to develop Quantum Mind in the best way. Quantum Mind is a brain that integrates each system to protect and nurture the food chain globally. These organizations and universities will see this, and definitely be willing to support our idea, allowing us to overcome all of our barriers.
- Not registered as any organization
We currently have 3 people on our solution team. As soon as we acquire partners, we will have access to more technology (satellites and quantum computers), and will be able to expand our team in the future.
Our mission at Quantum Mind is to solve world hunger, first to stir up the passion in those interested in the Quantum and computer field to compel them to join our team, allowing us to recruit more talented individuals. Although I am just in high school, and definitely not the greatest expert in quantum computing, my passion, and the whole team’s passion about this project does make us more well positioned to deliver Quantum Mind. Our team is willing to learn, and by partnering with these highly qualified and knowledgeable researchers and organizations, our team can quickly increase our knowledge. The mission of Quantum Mind, and passion it stirs up in both our team and our partners, make us well-positioned to deliver this solution.
We have planned Quantum Mind in different phases, and the next phase of Quantum Mind will be to outreach to organizations to partner with. We are planning to partner with organizations like Earth-i, NASA, European Space Agency, SpaceX, Google, Honeywell, Microsoft, Alice and Bob (https://alice-bob.com), Rigetti (https://rigetti.com), and D-Wave (https://www.dwavesys.com).
Our services and technology are for anyone who wants to join us. We are open science, and also a platform to integrate new ideas, and absorb the newest innovations, in order to maximize food and agriculture production. We will do this in the most optimized, natural and organic way possible. Quantum Mind will be free for those who need it the most in impoverished areas, and be subscription based for those who can afford to pay for Quantum Mind.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
MIT Solve 2020’s food and agriculture category is where we believe our Quantum Mind can best be applied to make the most positive impact on the world. We are applying to MIT Solve because it is an influential platform where many talented individuals and highly qualified organizations look for partners. These individuals and organizations will be able to learn about Quantum Mind, as well as our team’s mission and vision. By advocating our mission with MIT Solve, we will be able to attract not only potential investors and partners, but more importantly, talented young people who have similar goals and would like to fulfill them. This way, we will be able to let others know about our project to end world hunger.
- Solution technology
- Funding and revenue model
We are mainly seeking partnerships in order to fill the technological and resource gap that currently blocks us from building Quantum Mind. This is why we are seeking partnerships with Earth-i (precision farming), quantum computing research projects at Google, Honeywell, Microsoft, Alice and Bob (https://alice-bob.com), Rigetti (https://rigetti.com), and D-Wave (https://www.dwavesys.com), as well as satellite/space organizations like NASA, the European Space Agency, and SpaceX. Securing partnerships with these organizations will help us to get the technology, funding, and agricultural expertise needed to achieve our goal: quickly develop Quantum Mind.
We would like to partner with primarily 2 types of organizations, one specializing in space and satellites (NASA, SpaceX, and the European Space Agency) and the other with experience in quantum computing like Google or Honeywell. We need to ‘piggyback’ on space platforms (ISS) and/or satellites, to develop Quantum Mind Space. When partnering with a quantum company, we would look to them to sponsor us with their quantum system. We would remain an independent company, but would be connected to their quantum department, and give both form and meaning to their quantum research. In our search for potential partners, we were also excited to find that Earth-i has experience with precision farming, just without the quantum aspect, and self-learning aspects, so they are also another organization we would like to partner with.
We are qualified for this prize because in Quantum Mind, we will be using AI and self learning technology for the “brain” of Quantum Mind. This self learning AI is what will be creating the original and optimized agricultural solutions and farming techniques. These solutions will help small scale producers increase crop yields, solve world hunger, and help to improve humanity’s quality of life. Using the AI for Humanity Prize, we will be able to develop the self learning AI aspect of Quantum Mind more quickly. The prize will also make us more credible, allowing us to attract more partners and talented individuals to our team.
