Online education and remote work
- Pre-Seed
We are fighting the unemployment in disadvantaged communities through online learning and remote work. Funda Sebenza Solutions provides both: education and work out of one hand. The youth will be taught coding, working remotely and entrepreneurial skills - some of the most important skills for the workforce of the future.
Our initiative is a start-up company, which will equip the disadvantaged youth with skills such as the basic use of laptop and internet, coding of different programming languages and other online skills like content management, data analysis, presentation and entrepreneurship. We will use the complete range of actually available technologies like MOOC (massive open online courses), video conferencing and online collaboration, combined with an onsite
teacher to provide the skills.
The students, which have successfully completed their training, will be employed for satisfying, well-paid work. That can include data enhancement, website creation, app and software development. For this we are teaching Wordpress, online marketing, Phyton, Android and iOS developing and maybe also robotics, AI and machine learning.
We will build local offices with internet and laptops. These places have two important roles: they serve as micro universities and remote offices for well-paid work.
As a micro university they will provide access to a variety of MOOCs and a trainer who guides the members through the courses. We will use the already available platforms (edX, Udacity, Coursera, Udemy, Open 2 Study, Khan Academy) which lowers our own financial risk.
Funda Sebenza Solutions will be very locally distributed, so the information and work comes to the people – they don't have to move to big cities. Therefore our initiative aims to move young people and their families out of poverty. We believe in our main principle, that giving jobs is much more sustainable than charity.
We can easily grow our solution, because of the nature or our work. Growing is for us simply the addition of local offices for training and working wherever disadvantaged communities are - worldwide!
If this project is scaled up and distributed in poor communities across the world, it will give the youth many opportunities to live a successful life.
Talent is distributed equally - chance is not!
We are solving the youth skills shortage and unemployment in disadvantaged communities. Everyone who is born into a poor family has fewer possibilities in life. The education is worse, the motivation to study is less and the connections to good jobs are missing. This results in illiterate, unskilled and unemployable youth. Skills shortage and illiteracy are major causes of unemployment, which is amongst the causes of poverty in those communities. For example in Africa the skills shortage is very high and the youth accounts for 60 % of unemployed Africans.
We know from own experience that young people in African communities prefer jobs than education. So it is critical for the success, that we will provide education and work.
It is clear that lots of communities will get access to the internet in the short future (i.e. initiatives of Facebook and OneWeb). Establishing small offices there avoids the need of the youth to move to bigger cities.
On the other hand it is proven that enhancing the economy is more beneficial than giving donations.
The impact of our solution will decrease youth unemployment in poor communities. The youth will benefit by obtaining future-of-work skills and getting employed directly. We are also targeting to bring more women into STEM jobs.
Secondary to that, local economies will benefit from well trained and experienced youth that will also be able to work for other companies or start new companies.
Our solution will be deployed by having multiple local offices, which will serve as micro universities and remote offices for well-paid work.
Financial statement - Turnover with remote work in US$ per year
Work and financial records of members - Lifting people out of poverty: No. of members per year, who increased their daily income from under 3 to over 5 US$
Track number of members who completed trainings - Increase the number of trained and experienced young people
- Adolescent
- Low-income economies (< $1005 GNI)

- Suburban
- Sub-Saharan Africa
- Consumer-facing software (mobile applications, cloud services)
- Digital systems (machine learning, control systems, big data)
Because we are providing all the following important steps out of one hand:
- Information about state-of-the-art skills and work possibilities
- Education and on-the-job-training
- Providing work in remote teams
We will develop communities through local offices as near as possible at the home towns of the members.
The founding team has the perfect matching skills and experiences from South Africa and Germany.
Our solution changes lives. It has a huge effect on the lives of our members, their families and communities. Providing training and jobs is central to the life of the people. The increased income will be very beneficial for better health, less crime, increased self-confidence and happiness.
We are present on social media and will have a user-friendly website.
Interested people will be able to walk into local offices, which will be close to where they live, so they do not have to spend money for communiting to the cities.

We will generate income by doing remote work for clients. We will employ youth with the ability to learn the relevant skills for working on remote work projects. We will also look for funding and support from youth entrepreneurial agencies, small business funding from the government and funding through investments from private companies.
Having enough young people to be committed to finish the training until they get fully employed. Young people are often impatient and are looking for overnight success.
Lack of good internet connectivity. The infrastructure in some poor or rural communities might not allow good internet connectivity.
Crime in poor communities can threat our offices and equipment.
