Turn 2 Education Plus(+)

Turn 2 Education Plus(+) is an initiative of St. James C.O.U- Kigumba in Uganda that seeks to shelter the education of million girls and women pinned on the wall of ignorance.

No matter how thin you slice the digital inclusion bread, there are always two sides; your side [those with access to internet] and the other side [those off-grid/ with no internet access], a larger fraction in black out and poor communities, our most target beneficiaries.

From online - offline icons, Turn 2 Education Plus(+) will provide a sturdy platform and other digital tools for girls cutting across diverse economic horizons. 

"A child with education is a child with a future"! In Uganda alone, UNICEF reports 75% in rural and 91% children in urban live in households with access to a landline/ mobile phone [GoU & UNICEF 2017 Report] making them a fit for the innovation.

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men". 

Specifically, at the heart of our efforts, we stride to solve information deprivation, high illiterate levels and emotional barriers, all mostly affecting girls and young women. Together with all the factors compounded against adolescent girls/ women often rob them from the right to make their life decisions and the life they aspire for.

While UNICEF puts 132 million girls out of school globally, it recorded Uganda's student/pupil statistics as of 2017 as below;

19%- Lack any source of information at home, 2%- had used a computer by 2016/2017 UNHS, 75-91% live  in households with access to a landline or mobile phone, 54% do not have a radio and 97% do not have access to a computer. This wide depression need action.

Turn 2 Education Plus(+) envisages a sturdy platform with online icons that will aid a wide range of services including screen sharing, media sharing, content management system, mobile and responsive, virtual recordings and many more through internet connection which will be aided  by mobile internet sim cards to be provided to girls in the due run.

Offline icons like optical recognition marks(ORM) will be developed for schools and printed on books where offline students will access sufficient sturdy materials, information, assessments and other tools to serve to the need.

The project will also avail digital ovulation test equipments to schools to help them aid girls to early detect their fertile windows perfectly and thus prevent abrupt menstrual periods that cause cute emotional torcher to their victims.

With millions of challenged students, this solution will serve girls/ women in Uganda with prospects to be extended to other geographical spheres with similar needs. The most beneficial group are those whose financial constraints often limits them from accessing classrooms for several days leading to significant progress failures which will be mitigated by the offline alternatives and mobile internet sim cards. This group ranges from primary - tertiary levels.

Turn 2 Education Plus(+) project directly engaged at St. James Primary Schools at teacher- pupil levels, together with other research institutions conducted a basic survey from which intensive actions to support girl child education are underway.

Our target population being in all categories according to UNICEF Report in Uganda summarized in the problem description above, it's not an exaggeration to say they are the best fit for the solution.

All the factors compounded against adolescent girl child education including the significant barriers like poverty, gender biases, unsafe /welcoming environments and others of such nature are at least to a large extent considered in designing our project format in relation to the challenge and ground situation of our target group.
