Sustainable charcoal Production
- Pre-Seed
Train target youths in the production of charcoal briquettes using agricultural and forestry waste as an alternative to using trees that have to be cut down.
empower targeted youths with knowledge to produce charcoal from agricultural and forestry waste for use as a source of energy as an alternative to the use of non-renewable sources such as wood from trees that have to be cut down. A lot of youths are currently unemployed with a lot of delinquency problems resulting from this. The training will equip the youths with knowledge and skills which they will use to produce products for sale and generation of income for survival and improvement of the quality of their lives.
The rate of deforestation in the world is rampant with devastating effects on the environment. Meanwhile agricultural and forestry waste continue piling or being disposed of when they can be used economically.
As more youths engage into sustainable charcoal production, the rate of deforestation will reduce and the amount of damage on the environment will reduce. Further, the quality of life for the affected families will improve because of improved income levels.
The solution will solve the problems of unemployment among the country's youths and the related problems that come with financial scarcity.
The business innovation will bring a lot of youths on boards. As more briquettes are bought and used up more youths will be encouraged to get into the business of making charcoal from waste products.
The country's youths facing challenges related to unemployment will be the major beneficiaries through job creation. The charcoal producers will also find a new source of raw materials for their charcoal. they will also turn to forestry and agricultural waste instead of standing trees. There will be improved biodiversity through a reduction in the rate of deforestation in the country.
Number of apparatus produced for each youth. Track youths producing charcoal briquettes. - 2500 youths self-employed in the first year
Track house holds using sustainably produced charcoal. Track amounts of disposable income available in the community. - 25,000 community members registering improved quality of life per year.
Track charcoal producers actively avoiding cutting trees for their charcoal - 20,000 trees saved per year

Our solution is unique in that it is using locally understood technology to convert agricultural residues and other bio waste into usable form not conventionally used in the country. other solutions either use electricity, gas or solar energy which can not easily be generated using locally produced apparatus.
The technology for making charcoal briquettes is easy to reproduce by users and so is the process of making the briquettes themselves. All the raw materials needed are also locally available to the producer. It is therefore a cost-effective and user friendly technology available to the communities for as long as they need it.
Youths will be trained to make the technology with which they will produce the charcoal for sale to users at a fee cheaper than conventional charcoal.
The conventional charcoal producers will also be targeted and trained to produce the technology so that they also start producing charcoal using residues rather than standing trees.
interested community members will also be trained to produce the technology and the charcoal. the knowledge is meant to reach more users every year.

- Zambia
The training will be offered at a small fee after external support. The organisation will also produce the technolgy and sell it to interested users at a small fee.
Introduction of other technologies that users may prefer to the one offered. Also lack of initial funds to effectively create enough awareness on the solution to the targeted population segments.
