SolaBOX

SolaBOX is a localized Do-It-Yourself kit for a first time user to learn by doing any specific application like solar energy system. It reduces cost of external technician and encourage self-maintenance. It is easily adapted to other applications like water and wind turbine, electronics and communication to be shipped globally.

1. Power availability
Limited contact hours to the source of the education such as books and teaching lesson because shorter daily operation without no lights let alone gadget like phone.

2. Beneficiaries only as users
They are left out in the installation process and highly depending on third technical party to use, maintain and repair the system. 

3. Access to skill training kit
 Conventional set up of classroom training and trainer are really impractical to be implemented towards marginalized youth due to resources needed to reach them and achieve economy of scale.

1. Disadvantaged youth can learn and adapt
Despite language barrier, our beneficiaries can install solar energy system of SolaBOX only after observing and following our first installation in villages in Myanmar.

2. Technology can be simplified
Using our own experience of installation, we have made the system installation so simple that a teenager can install the solar energy system without technician availability.

3. Do-It-Yourself is sustainable
As simple as one loose wire from its socket can cause total breakdown and it is easily prevented if the user understand how the system works during self installation.

IMPACT

1. The family can have an average of extra 4 operation hours at night in their house for economy and education activities.
2. Power availability allows gadget application for communication and education. 
3. 90% of health problem due to smoke from fuel burning of candle, kerosene and generator can be eliminated.
4. Installation skills and application innovation can be adapted by the user.

1. Fully Do-It-Yourself concept

We simplified the installation and operation procedure through our experience by choosing the most reliable and practical components such as flexible thin film solar panel and all DC system.

2. Technology made easy with all-in-a-box concept

Allow users to install the system themselves to eliminate installation and do basic maintenance without depending on expensive technical support since they installed the system.

3. Localisation of technology
Solar energy might not be suitable for all sites, therefore we can opt for other renewable energy like wind and mini hydro plus customizing the powered-to-be appliances based on local demand.

We found that it is not about how advanced is the technology you instill, it is actually what difference can you make in their life even with simple solution.

2. Practical, Practical, Practical
How do we know it is practical or not? With more than 50 off grid installations in Southeast Asia, we can safely say been there and done that.

3. Put ourselves in their shoes
We have to actively simulate and positively take into consideration the DiY usage by the user because it will be not us that will install or use the system.

AFFORDABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY

4. We aim to achieve higher number of villagers in one village rather than numbers of villages participated.

Suncrox Solar is a social enterprise that implement cross-subsidization model. We are fully commercial entity that offers expertise in off grid solar energy system for commercial building, resort, agricultural and also vehicles like food truck and campervan. We also have few products of SolaMOBI; solar phone charger, SolaBOX; DiY power in a box and SolaGEN; portable solar electric generator. In order for us to support our enterprise financially, we are actively looking and consulting projects for solar solar energy to our clients. We are also actively looking for funding from competition and equity funding.

1. Capital boost

Even though this should not be excuse for our lack of growth, it is just that we have tried as much as possible to make the SolaBOX affordable including by cross-subsidizing using our commercial projects. However, we did not get the growth and capacity that we need.

2. Minimum Order Quantity

Due to our low quantity of order, we are basically at the mercy of the manufacturer in order for us to get the most suitable component to fit our SolaBOX. Most likely we just hop on other big order by other companies and adjust our solution according to it.

We are doing as much as we could to address the energy poverty and youth education issue based on our capacity. It is hard for us to interact with beneficiaries when we have to choose beneficiaries who need our solution the most because we cannot address all due to limited resources. We hope our participation in Solve will allow us to meet like-minded ecosystem that can assist us to proceed to next level. We are looking forward for a new technological introduction and develop a highly useful networking within Solve participants, experts and also the secretariat.
