Scholar Information Management System
Trying to reduce the disruption of education during crisis times e.g conflicts and pandemics. So as to reduce their effects on women (increase in the number of early marriages for girls, others abused and some end up with unwanted pregnancies).
Our solution is Edtech. With all the crisis, we decided to make SIMS FREE for all learners. Once a school acquires the manager, they get the learner for free, thereby reducing additional cost for learners.
SIMS® is an educational student-teacher companion platform for mobile, web and desktop versions. With so many functionalities, helping both students and teachers do what they do best in the best possible means. Technology-based Learning or Blended Learning holds promise to transform learning and teaching. This initiative is here created with an aim to promote educational change through empowering teachers and bringing students to the center of the learning conversation through simple, easy to use technology.
The educational sector in Africa faces a series of problems with the most unifying problem being crisis/conflict. As per UNICEF’s analyses in June 2019, over 1.91 million children are being robbed of an education due to violence and insecurity in and around their schools in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Niger and Nigeria. Cameroon as case study:
The Boko Haram insurgency in the North of Cameroon from January 2015 which has since disrupted education by keeping over 23,000 children out of school, while more than 92 remain closed in the Far North region of Cameroon, according to UNICEF records.
According to OCHA, the Anglophone Crisis that started in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon in 2016. This led to 80% of schools shutting down, denying more than 600,000 learners access to education. At least 74 schools were destroyed, students and school personnel exposed to violence with over 300 kidnap cases; As per UNICEF’s report.
Most recently, the COVID19 outbreak forced the governments to suspend all school activities, keeping home those that were not affected by the crisis listed above.
SIMS® (Scholar Information Management System): A digital platform that solves all the problems and provides uninterrupted access to education for all, anytime, anywhere. A cross-platform application for students, teachers & school administrators to be used with or without internet and or smart phones in conflict & crisis areas.
SIMS® combines a myriad of solutions and essentially makes education not only accessible but affordable, especially to those who aren’t able to make it to class, it also helps automate tasks and speed up administrative processes for educational institutes.
It integrates two main features :
SIMS® Learner (Free) - A revolutionary learning facilitator where teachers customize instructional content using digital collections.
SIMS® Manager - a secure and efficient management portal for schools.
Our goal is to make a contribution towards creating dynamic learning environments accessible to all, no matter where they live or their situation in life. Providing:
A digital classroom accessible via both analog and smartphones, Study school programs, anytime anywhere, Build-in networking for teacher-student interactions, File sharing and assignment grading, Live chat room and Mock exams.
Available on web, mobile and desktop versions and can be used with or without internet and or smart phones in conflict & crisis areas.
The target population of our solution is; learners, teachers, school administrators and proprietors. Students are being deprived of access to education which is said to be their fundamental right. These same learners, boys and girls alike in their idleness are hence exposed to violence: boys being forcefully recruited as child-soldiers or badly influenced in becoming delinquents, the girls being sexually, mentally and morally abused, forced into early marriages, unwanted pregnancies and some becoming unnecessarily promiscuous. Teachers stay at home with no allowance for themselves and the ones who risk going to teach get kidnapped and/or killed. School administrators abandon schools because they have become dangerous or have totally been destroyed.
SIMS offers a safe learning/teaching space for all the above mentioned persons. Where they can get an education without fear of loosing their lives, improve on their digital literacy with no additional cost, help teachers fulfill their call while using it to earn a living as they play a key role in providing the content for the learning platform. Finally, enable school owners rebuild there institutions in a digital space.
- Reduce the barriers that prevent girls and young women—especially those living in conflict and emergency situations—from reaching key learning milestones
Women/girls are always at the "collateral damage" part of every war, pandemic or natural disaster. When there is conflict, women are more exposed to abuse, young girls to early marriages and unwanted pregnancies. Education builds a woman's confidence, pride, intellect and self-respect. Statistics have proven that less education women are more exposed to violence because they barely know how to define it and can't actually tell what constitutes violence and what does not.
SIMS® is her to give the woman an education that knows no crisis or gender.
Let's empower the woman in order to empower the world.
