SHE FINANCIAL LITERATE
It is unfortunate that our educational systems do not teach us about money, which most of us study hard in school because we want to make money which we don't have the ability to handle. The gender disparity of financial illiteracy is not favorable to women and the collectives. This project seeks to solve the problem of financial illiteracy.
To solve this, the project seeks to form clubs in many Ghanaian schools where the girl students can meet and have a new environment of learning well curated e-financial resources installed on computers in school's ICT labs.Student with individual PC's can have access too.
Poverty is widespread and one of it causes is financial illiteracy. This project will increase financial literates hence reduce poverty if replicated across the world.
Financial illiteracy is widespread among women in our society. My team desired to see financial independence for women in low income households. As a result, we try to share my financial knowledge with these households through training. Communal involvement has been one sure way to achieve this. Recently, we organize a program for the traders and petty business owners in my community. This was a lecture to provide them with guidance on how to manage their finances.
Through my interaction with these businesswomen, we made an observation that they had a habit of poorly managing money. And this ensured that they were stuck in perpetual cycle of debt even though they were doing good business. Apart from obtaining credit that they didn’t need, they hardly ever put the funds into profitable ventures. In view of this, the session addressed how to manage their income, separate profit from working capital, and when to obtain external credit.
We traced this to the younger ages of these women and came up with the solution that can eliminate financial illiteracy from the early stages of the liVes of the female gender. That is how come we came up with the SHE FINANCIAL LITERATE.
Our solution is technologically optimized to help girls acquire financial knowledge while in school in order to become financial literates. This will be in the form of financial e-resources built-in software to be installed on computers in the ICT Labs of registered schools. This computer software application will consist of videos, PowerPoint slides and illustrations about financial topics.
To roll this out, clubs will be formed in various schools for girls who will like to have financial education to join as members. The appointed club leaders(student or teacher) will moderate club meetings as they learn about finance in their ICT labs.
Aside having access to the e- financial resources in various ICT labs in schools, the application will be available for mobile downloads by members. This is to help track their progress and know how effective the project is.
This solution is to serve as many girls as possible who are already enrolled in schools that accept our e-financial club learning proposal. From ages 4 to 24 is the target age bracket since these stages are crucial in their personality formation and skills acquisition.
Engaging a few girl students and teachers has informed me about their interest in having a comfortable environment to learn about finance which are not taught in their various school.
Financial literacy can help reduce poverty, depression, suicide, homelessness among others. These are known financial illiteracy ramifications which can be prevented from happening if the upcoming generation of ladies are well equipped with financial knowledge to make money, manage it, know their investment options among others.
This may be beneficial to the opposite sex as well after the project after the growth of the project.
- Increase the number of girls and young women participating in formal and informal learning and training
There are many projects in Ghana focused on giving the average girl child access to good education. This shows that the world is becoming a better place by the day. After primary, secondary and tertiary education, what follows is to find a job or create one out of which one can make a living.
Financial education complements all other classroom lessons and makes education holistic. As this project would ride on wings of technology to equip the average girl child with financial knowledge as other curriculum based projects do their bit to get these girls into the classroom.
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
- A new application of an existing technology
Financial education is an area that is not in the limelight in Ghana's education. We always see the need for education but don't consider holistic education. Art, entrepreneurship as well as financial education are also essential elements of education.
The girl child is cannot only be empowered by classroom lessons on science mathematics among others. She also has to learn that "the best protection of a woman is the little money of her own" by Clare Boothe.
This makes SHE FINANCIAL LITERATE an innovative project. As our approach will be effective enough by creating a unique atmosphere for financial education via e-learning, these girls will also become tech savvy.
There are definitely other projects that want to provide good education in many aspects but this project serves as a complementary project to make their education initiative holistic.
Researching the market, projects that are on the course of raising financial literates generalized their target ans as well have short term projects. A s compared to the project under consideration, we seek to roll out a long term solution in the various schools on financial literacy.
When educated girls and women think finance, they think liberation.
