DYSMENORRHEA AND ITS EFFECTS
Dysmenorrhea has been identified as a public health problem because of its high prevalence, the degree of discomfort felt by the sufferer as well as the reduction in the quality of life of female students. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea among girls was documented to be as high as 85.4% in one study, and this was linked with poor school attendance. Recurrent absenteeism in school can lead to academic underachievement and is likely to affect future jobs. Moments Anions Sanitary Napkins has been designed to improve blood circulation, maintain natural PH and support reproductive health. It has a permanent solution to the discomfort, the girls/women experience as distraction while learning in school. Without these discomforts, the girls/young women Will be able to participate just like the male ones providing them an opportunity for increased hours of learning for a better future.
Ibadan is a city in Southwestern Nigeria, in all the 14 public girls' only senior secondary school in the 5 urban local government in Ibadan, the greater majority of those who experience dysmenorrhea is 81.3%. The menstrual discomforts results from unhygienic menstrual materials available on the market the girls use(Cloth,Cotton) including some disposable sanitary pads which has technological malfunction. Most young girls in Nigeria do not seek medical help as they seem to accept the discomfort as part of the physiological process of the transition between adolescence and adulthood, and as something that cannot be ameliorated. With regards to period pains, the current research findings indicate period pains apart from usual contractions, is caused by hormonal imbalance producing excess hormones which help her shade the blood but cause the pain and sometimes vomiting. The other cause of period pains could be shrinked linings in the uterus through which these hormones struggle to pass causing the pain. This pain is capable of disrupting girls/women life and class life part of it.

We know that when girls are educated everyone benefits – incremental increases in girls’ education correspond with a rise in average national GDP. Education, particularly for girls, has been called a “vaccine” for healthier populations. But in sub-Saharan Africa, only two of 35 countries have reached gender parity in education. The Education Commission estimates that in 2016, fewer than 1 in 20 poor, rural girls in sub-Saharan Africa are likely to complete secondary school – seven times less than wealthier, urban boys And even where significant progress has been made in getting girls into school, the reality is that the quality of education and learning outcomes has lagged. Today approximately 263 million children and youth between the ages of six and seventeen are not in school, and more than 114 million young adults cannot read. Our target is all girls/young women of menstruating age and still attending school.
- Increase the number of girls and young women participating in formal and informal learning and training
Approximately 46.3% period pains in girls/young women were reported severe for about 3-6 days to the point of disrupting their daily activities including attending classes and other learning opportunities. If they don't experience pain and other associated discomforts from menstrual infections or picking from hygienic toilets as they use Moments Anion Sanitary Pads and pantliners, there is no reason for them to be absent from school or not to participate in other formal and informal learning opportunities and reduce on school dropouts. This provides them an opportunity for improved learning outcomes and reduce early marriages sometimes caused from period pains.
