Geniebook’s current recommender is able to recommend questions based on the highest learnability that will help students master a particular concept. Streamlining topics can also help minimise the time wasted on irrelevant materials, more so if the subject matters are catered individually to each student. With such customised content, students can skip redundant content and concentrate on the most useful topics to help them understand concepts. Rather than just one media site or platform, having an online learning platform with interactive features such as narration, music, speech, and short videos would help students understand learning objectives in an engaging manner.

Most of the Edtech competitors in the region have products and contents which are fixed in one format such as videos, live lessons or question and answers. These formats are hard to move across different media. In the EduTech industry, our main competitors are Superstar Teacher, Koobits, BYJU and Ruangguru. We believe that the key differentiating factors between us would be our approach of assessment-led learning. For example, the video content created by Ruangguru would be hard to convert to physical notes if the preparations have not been done BEFORE creating the videos. The physical lessons in a classroom setting, even when recorded, will not be suitable for online consumption due to different expectations of viewers. They can reach only certain groups of learners since they are unable to fit into the distribution formats needed to reach other groups. Our solution currently serves 60,000 users and there have been 10,000,000 question attempts by our users. We hope to reach out to a higher number of users globally. 

Although the company is only four years old, Geniebook has already expanded successfully across Asia to countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. Leading the way as a trailblazer in Edutech, we hope to reach out to students globally and shape the future of education through Geniebook. To reach that level of aspiration, we recognise that it is essential for us to build more AI/ML solutions. Having more AI/ML solutions will help to automate various tasks to support the product without increasing human resources in the company. To make Geniebook financially viable in the upcoming years, Zhizhong and Alicia have set aggressive goals for future growth and expansion. Every individual can access Geniebook, solely with the use of suitable devices and internet connection. Geniebook is platform-agnostic, and therefore, we run equally well on multiple platforms and devices. Since the platform is delivered online, Geniebook would be financially viable in the upcoming years with an increase in Internet and device savviness among parents and children. Academic theories that are being taught at pre-university levels are almost similar across the world despite the differences in the way they are taught for various subjects. It shows that there is great potential for local, regional, or global replication since the approach of video-led lessons can be utilised globally and every individual will soon have access to personalised learning. 

Barriers that currently exist for us to accomplish our goals in the next year would be attempting to reach out to a more extensive group of people in the poorer countries. It would be a challenge for us to bring our solution to international users from different countries, thus limiting our impact in the next year. 

In the past 13 years, the team has hired and trained over 300 teachers to work on the curriculum in Geniebook. This experience will allow Geniebook to scale the manpower and physical centres rapidly in those cities where a physical location will accelerate the distribution. Geniebook is also developing a new feature to augment our offerings, for instance, Offline-to-Online-to-Offline (O2O2O). We have started researching and developing prototypes of migrating the physical assignments students complete into our database. Currently, we have already succeeded in moving our personalisation learning offline by making our content fluid.

There are currently 140 full-time staff and 5 part-time staff who are working on our solution team. 

Geniebook’s management team ran School Plus, which is a highly profitable chain of education centre for 13 years. The entire centre runs on a Personalised Learning Management System which was able to personalise a learner’s education through physical centres with hardcopy materials, linking back to Geniebook’s database, resulting in further and more accurate personalisation. It would be easy for Geniebook to acquire the license to deploy the Personalised Learning Management system into the other countries. 

Geniebook currently has 5 groups of organisations for partnerships, namely POPULAR Bookstores, Education Publishing House (EPH), SAP Education, Samsung and UOB Bank. We partner with POPULAR to hold roadshows at their stores, reaching out to a larger group of parents. Geniebook also works with UOB Bank to provide discounts and privileges when payment is made with their credit card.

Additionally, Geniebook would become highly relevant in the event of closure of schools due to unforeseen epidemics. The positive culture shift towards online-learning due to said epidemic would demonstrate the viability of Geniebook.

We are applying to Solve as we would like more people to be aware of the education technology that Geniebook utilises. We believe that this would help us to reach out to a more extensive network of users for distribution purposes. We hope to reach out to larger groups of learners from different cultures and backgrounds, providing students with a richer education through Geniebook. We are seeking for more product and service distribution and hope to gain greater media exposure. 

We hope to seek advice in the area of Solution technology as we are interested in learning more about the various technologies that are being utilised. We want to seek more partnership for product/service distribution as we believe that by working with the right partner and organisation, Geniebook can be distributed to more people and benefit them. Since we are becoming a regional business, we want to achieve greater exposure and more diversity in our board members. With MIT Solve, we believe that it would help us to gain the exposure that we need to bring Geniebook to global attention. 

We would like to partner with non-profit organisations that can help us deliver and distribute our product to the rural areas or other cities. This way, we can reach out to larger groups of learners from different cultures and backgrounds. We would also like to work with research institutes to develop more education technology solutions.
