The current global education system is bureaucratic and it is difficult to bring curriculum into classrooms that effectively teach our youth to be productive and kind world citizens that can effectively contribute to the world economy consciously. The high cost of living and financial barriers to entry are further causing marginalization to our future world leaders.
Furthermore, education is usually delivered based on funding in the community. Therefore, poor communities receive less quality education vs. richer communities. Women specifically are left out of the education system and deterred from careers that bring in more money.
According to UNICEF, around the world, 132 million girls are out of school, including 34.3 million of primary school age, 30 million of lower-secondary school age, and 67.4 million of upper-secondary school age. In countries affected by conflict, girls are more than twice as likely to be out of school than girls living in non-affected countries.
The inequity in education - specifically those of women is unacceptable and must be solved.
We provide online learning that concentrates on socioeconomic education. Courses include entrepreneurship, financial wellness, increasing communication skills, conflict resolution, storytelling and other relevant topis. Through a community of educators, we deliver state of the art education that aims to increase the learner's socioecononic status. Furthermore, all of our content is low cost and we have a foundation that underwrites anyone that cannot afford our subscription.
We also offer virtual live experiences where we prepare classrooms for our content. We bring in female mentors from top VC firms and other corporations to further encourge our learners to aim for success.
By utilizing online and virtual live learning, we believe we can bridge the eduation gap that exists in vulnerable communities. Our unique socioeconomic education offering assists in also bridging the gender gap. Although our platform serves all youth, we specifically bring in successful female mentors in order to hone in on the gender gap that exists in education and the world at large.
Change starts with impacting one youth at a time and we believe over time, we can create a more kind and just society - it all starts with a solid base of equal education for all.
We aim to serve all and bring gender quality to education. However, our aim has always been to uplift marginalized communities in order to bridge the education gaps. We believe online learning is the answer to that. We also believe that experiential learning that aims at socioeconomic change is the real way to solve inequality - in pay and gender.
Our platform, The Learning Marketplace, first aims to understand what the learner aims to gain from our platform. Our unique Learner Assessment Test, provides a customized learning plan to each learner. We evolve with our learners (users) and constantly create more content that fits the needs of our learners. Furthermore, we work on bringing in mentors that can directly influence the success of our learners. Although online learning can seem disengaging, we bring in a personal touch so we can truly impact the lives of our learners.
We believe a mix of self directed and personal education can truly make a difference in the lives of the youth we serve.
- Increase the number of girls and young women participating in formal and informal learning and training
Our platform aims to solve the gender inequality that exists in education. We provide real world, socioeconomic education that reduces the barriers that prevent girls and young women to get educated, we strengthen practical skills that directly increase their earning potential, and we are increasing our ability to serve more youth. Our platform is open to all; however, our industry based mentorship comes from top performing professional women so we can further push the glass ceiling that women face.
Our company is run by a minority female from a vulnerable - India. We understand the issues that vulnerable women face.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth
- A new business model or process
Inequality in human existence has been around for centuries. We believe education is the ultimate agent for change. If we can create education that furthers the socioeconomic development of all while also understanding the inherent inequalities that already exist, we can build solutions. The Learning Marketplace is using the power of education & technology to reach all youth while also filling the inherent gaps that exist in our current society. Women must be mentored and education must be cost effective & built without the socioeconomic barriers of local funding that the current system requires. Our platform is for all, at a low-cost & aims to raise human capital by customizing education through an experiential based system.
Done are the days where the education curriculum is built by politicians and nation owners. Our curriculum is democratized & our platform is direct to youth. The youth can customize which curriculum fits their needs.
We have competitors but we aim to invite them to our platform so they too can create vendor stores & offer their content on our site. Instead of competiting, let's work together and build a centralized database for youth - that's the essense of The Learning Marketplace. Education by the people for the people.
We are essentially removing the geopolitical barriers to education and taking the politics out of education. The internet is for all. Education is for all. Opportunities are for all. The Learning Marketplace will create a more equal and just world through the power of youth.
Our core technology is a custom coded wordpress site. We also utilize Google Classroom in order to deliver virtual programming. We would like to expand to include a phone app in order to reach more youth. We also are exploring ways to incorporate AI chat technology so we can answer questions in order to further enhance our self directed learning features.
We are an online learning platform and current events have made online learning very relevant. With COVID-19 and the increasing amount of over populated schools, it's fair to say that remote learning is here to stay. According to Education.com, it's the future.
The Learning Marketplace is poised to bring youth together in order to reshape our education is delivered. We can bring equity and equality to a historically unequal education system. Our technology is simple and easy to adopt to as well as adaptable to those that have limited technology resources. Our lesson plans are all PDF downloads so there can be a super user in a community that can deliver the downloads even if internet connection is an issue.
We are seeing a tech divide that further increases socio-economic disempowerment. It is our job to solve those issues by also partnering with technology companies in order to provide the resources necessary to bring our learning to vulnerable communities. Our foundation works extensively on building these partnerships.
We cannot let technology to increase inequality. We must utilize it as a force to solve the issues that other generations could now. The Learning Marketplace aims to use technology as a way to bridge gaps and create a more equal and kind world.
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
- Crowdsourced Service / Social Networks
Currently education is highly dependent on the geopolitics of the region where the youth reside. Our approach to change is to take away the geopolitical funding and instead rely on public partnerships in order to serve the youth but provide the education at a low cost so that youth and their families can afford it. Much like private education without the high price tag that private education comes with. We believe that there is no one better to engage than the youth themselves and our platform is created for them. Although our platform is low cost, we also have a 501(c)3 foundation that subsidizes the cost in case youth and their families cannot afford our services. Furthermore, we partner with large corporations to provide further mentoring so we can increase human capital.
Education has become highly politicized and that's not fair to the youth. We are democratizing education and concentrating on the skills that truly increase socioeconomic status so that the youth have the tools they need to succeed in life.
Everyone deserves the high quality education that private school provides. Our platform aims to fill the gaps that too often create and sustain inequality - an unequal education system.

We currently have approximately 2500 learners on our site. This summer we partnered with New York Governor's office in order to provide virtual summer camps to those organizations that could not provide summer learning. As a result, we will be doubling our users by September 2020. In a year, we hope to have at least 10,000 users. If we continue to create private and public partnerships, we hope to reach one million users by 2025. Our users are the youth; however, we also believe that their communities will benefit from the transformation change that our platform provides. Our main focus is to create more entrepreneurial and emotionally intelligent youth. We believe youth will create change within their communities and by impacting over one million youth in the next 5 years, we will be able to create meaning world change that affects society at large.
We will not quit until the 1.8 billion youth population have access to our platform. Every youth deserves our education.
Our greatest success has come when we create meaningful partnerships with a public and private approach. We want to serve youth that the public system is failing by utilizing our network of private organizations. To date, our most successful partnership has been with the New York Governor's office. We are able to serve the youth that the state can no longer fund by partnering with the not profit organizations that typically get funded by state funds. We then utilize our extensive network of private organizations to fundraise in order to subsidize those youth that cannot afford our low cost platform. If we can continue to replicate this model to other cities across the world, we believe we can reach the 1.8 billion youth population & help create a more kind and just society.
Cesar Rodriquez from Fresh Air Fund (a New York organization) said it best, "Why doesn't ever youth have access to this platform?" We ask ourselves the same question and we know that the way forward is to keep getting our word out and stretching our arms out for partnerships. In order to serve youth, we must work together and that is our main focus on growth. The more we partner and remain innovative, the more fuel we have to serve all youth and create a better world.
Our focus is to recreate the economy by having citizens that are taught to be fair, kind & equitable. The Learning Marketplace aims to do just that.
Our biggest barrier is that every person in the world doesn't know we exist. We need the world to know about our existence and we can only do that if we gain more recognition. Our team is committed to our work until we are alive and we have very low overhead. Our barrier to entry now, in one year and in 5 years is just one thing - lack of brand recognition.
By winning this challenge and many others, we believe we can increase our brand recognition. We also plan on working with social media applications like SnapChat and TikTok in order to create in app experiences where their platform connects to our platform. We are in early talks of this partnership but by reaching where the youth are (social media), we believe we can increase our brand awareness and subsequent impact.
Furthermore, we will be on an Amazon Prime show in 2021 that will discuss youth and cyberbullying. One of our exercises, Technology and Mental Health, will be featured.
By increasing our media outreach, we believe we can reach more youth and solve our biggest barrier to entry - brand awareness.
- Hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit
We currently have a core team of 4 people and about 3 contractors. Our core team works on this full-team; however, they are able to take on side jobs in order to supplement income.
Our contractors help us with graphic design and instructional tasks.
Our team is committed to putting the work we do with The Learning Marketplace first and we can often be found working 7 days a week so we can properly serve youth.
Our team consists of marketing, finance and technology professionals that all have one clear objective - make the world a better place. Our skills are matched by our passion to fix the education system so it is more inclusive. We also have a team that spans United States to Australia because we believe a global perspective is important when creating and growing our work at The Learning Marketplace.
We will not fail because we simply will not give up. Whether we move the needle a lot or a little truly depends on the opportunities we are given and the one thing that is in our control is to seize all opportunities. Together as a united team, we can help the youth make the world better.
We have partnered with the following organizations:
- Capital One
- Apple
- JP Morgan Chase
- TikTok
- SnapChat
- VU Venture Partners
- Fresh Air Fund
- Uncommon Schools
- New York Governor's Office
- Capital Innovators
- Startupbootcamp
We have been able to establish these partnerships in just 18 months and we hope to partner with many more organizations in the coming years in order to reach 1.8 billion youth.
We have a business to consumer and a business to business model. We sell subscriptions to our platform at a low cost and we also subsidize costs for those that cannot afford it (by your Foundation).
A subscription allows a learner to download as many learning exercises as needed. We also offer our platform free of charge for the first month. Our most popular model is to partner with an organization and provide an enterprise subscription. This allows us to reach more youth at a faster rate.
Another key part of our platform is the fact that people can create vendor stores and sell learning exercises. This allows us to further increase the socioeconomic status of our communities - especially women who are passionate about teaching. All of our products are vetted and reviewed before they are available for sale. We offer 80% commissions on these products.
- Individual consumers or stakeholders (B2C)
We are a very lean organization and spend about $1,000 a month on salaries and development costs. Therefore, our ability to be cash positive is very high. We hope to reach this point by September 2020.
Our recurring revenue model (subscription sales) further allows us to create stable revenue sources.
We are applying to this program because we believe the way to create and sustain meaningful progress is to work together. By becoming a Solver, we can work with other like-minded people and reach our goal to reach all 1.8 billion youth and create a more kind and equitable world. Furthermore, we would love to be mentored by the Solve community in order to verify our product and our business strategy. We have a global ambition and to be in company with some of the brightest minds in the world would be a dream come true.
We believe that true economic change can occur when we concentrate on youth / women development and we would like to track and test our model so we can use our success as a way forward for further development generations to come. The MIT community can allow us to create valuable research based on our methodology of socioeconomic empowerment education.
- Solution technology
- Product/service distribution
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Marketing, media, and exposure
We would like to make our platform more engaging to the youth. This may require our learning exercises to include more AI and Virtual Reality so that we can gamify our platform. We would love to further deep dive in how best to implement our technology on the world scale and working with the MIT solver community will help us reach all 1.8 billion youth.
We have two main objectives in the coming years: engage more youth and build awareness for economic change by customizing education for youth and women to include socioeconomic empowerment. We would like to partner with MIT faculty to build research data points that can validate our work and allow us to expand to communities across the globe.
Furthermore, we believe we can make our learning exercises more engaging. This may include VR and AI integration into our platform. Gamifying our platform will allow us to increase our user engagement. We would love to work with the MIT development team in order to get this going.
