Problem: According to WEF, women's access to education and employment may be achieved in 2095. Women lack informal learning networks and role models the most.
Opportunity: As new jobs are invented, our learning experience is also changing to a connected, social and distributed model as outlined by George Simmon's "Connectivism" theory.
We offer a trusted, social and digital network for young women (16-30) to learn from peers and experts to take their next learning or career step:
- Young women watch role model videos, access how to tips, join women circles and digital network willing to share experiences
- Experts share their know-how (blog/video/forums) and are empowered to connect to many. We leverage our Diaspora networks deeply.
- Ecosystem stakeholders contribute digitally in one digital network with content and networks.
Our solution is digital and includes content and community recipes that can be rolled out country by country. Our pilot is in Turkey.
According to WEF, women's access to education and employment may be achieved in 2095 worldwide.
The root causes of this problem have different flavors in each country but involve all these systems: Culture, education, childcare, job market, media, university career development, mobility, parent education and formal and informal career orientation system.
As the education system is in transformation and 65% of the jobs today's primary school children will hold are not yet invented, we decided to focus on the informal career orientation system. If new jobs are unknown, there is no gender bias and the most prepared and networked person can fill the position. Here is a chance to build a gender equal work force. If today's youth is going to change jobs 12 times in her life time, she will need to decide on her learning and job 12 times. Women lack informal learning networks and role models the most.
In Turkey, women's employment participation rate is around 30% compared to the OECD average of 62%. If Turkish women participate at the workforce at OECD levels, the GDP will increase by 20%.
Unemployment rate of university educated women is 35% vs 23% of males-not equal for the most educated.
BinYaprak is trusted, social and digital network for young women to learn from peers and experts to take their next career or learning step.
We offer a digital social platform- a web service- with:
- Recipes to publish role model videos and blog posts
- A social network for members to connect to each other
- Groups for members to interact
- Sisterhood circles where members meet for 1 hour for 12 weeks in "Working Out Loud" circles for peer and goal sharing and support
- Forums for free form Q&As
We cover about 100 hard -soft-life skill topics for our community to share know-how & networks. We focus deeply on Future Jobs, Digital Skills and Life Tips like how to find a partner who supports your work goals.
As of June 2020, we held over 150 online events, published 600+ videos, 400+ articles, 30 partners and have over 12K members.
We have 50 experts sharing know-how. Our goal is to activate our Diaspora community deeper for growing online knowledge remittances- a 40% Diaspora expert target as we grow.
Our target population is university educated young woman (16-30). Her economic background is irrelevant- her aspirations feed her drive. She is seeking role models, like minded women and a support network. She needs support and guidance when changing jobs or changing life stages for her important questions. She has the need to belong to a tribe of people with similar values as she feels alone in her journey for self realization.
We have been running a youth academy, CampusWIN, since 2012. We are building and shaping our solution actively with a group of 100 university students- our co-creators. This ideas was their "collective action" and "give back" idea to start with.
Our CampusWIN alumni network is continuing with their input and contributions after graduation.
Furthermore, we partnered with Xsights Research firm to understand her needs. We have been publishing Xsights reports since 2017. We regularly run focus groups with our target group.
- Increase the number of girls and young women participating in formal and informal learning and training
We believe that everyone can be change-maker with micro-actions. We also believe that every girl and woman can progress in her learning journey if she can quickly decide her next step in a positive and motivating digital space.
Our success criteria are:
Mood change-does she feel more confident?
Skills: Did her self efficacy rating change?
Growth of future orientation: Did she set goals? Did she achieve her goals?
Social Map: Did she make new connections or learn from others?
In Turkey, in our end-game, we will mobilize: 1MM users, 10K experts-sharers, 500 companies, 100 partners and 100 knowledge topics.
- Growth: An organization with an established product, service, or business model rolled out in one or, ideally, several communities, which is poised for further growth
- A new business model or process
We believe that everyone is a change-maker. Who would not want to help a young engineering student to discover her next steps? Yet, all knowledge networks like LinkedIN are generic and the networks and know-how they offer are vast.
We offer a community building and harvesting experience in a digital space where our participants join us with a meaning-based goal: to network for change and help young girls and women reach their learning and workplace potential.
We harvest goals both from our target audience and our give back community of experts and connect them to each other in different experiences: over a role model video for on-demand inspiration; in a sisterhood circle for a 3-month support that keeps her on course for her goal; in a forum or serendipitously in the network; referral to a training or micro-certification.
We position ourselves not as a technology platform but as community builder for change. Technology platform, content and other activities are means leading to mindset change that will lead to system change when enough number of stakeholders participate in this massive co-creation eco-system we have designed. There is no adoption technology if it does not bring positive change to our lives.
We built our service on a Joomla system to deploy a social network.
Our innovation is the way we extract goals, content and network from our community and how we then use these assets to activate a learning experience for our target audience.
Now we are working on personalizing our user journeys with a learning matching algorithm to connect them to experts and suggestions.
In our business model, companies pay for content, publishing or network services that meet one of these goals: corporate social responsibility, employer branding, recruiting or purposeful marketing.
Our web service is online and operational at https://binyaprak.com/
- Crowdsourced Service / Social Networks
We believe every girl and young woman should have the freedom to take steps to build the career she loves.
The young girl and woman needs role models and informal networks to be informed and encouraged to take the next small step and set the next goal to continue in her journey. We do not know the future but taking meaning small steps keeps us in the path to self-realization.
The wisdom of the people who love their jobs or would like to share their experiences is an untapped asset in any country- especially the Diaspora knowledge networks that want to send information remittances to homeland about the latest jobs and skills.
Future of learning is peer sharing driven, social and distributed as the information halftime shortens.
In the formal and informal career orientation system, university educated women need up-to-date information about shifting careers trends, a positive - welcoming non-judgmental community to learn with and from, role models to get inspired by, learning tips for workshops- micro-coursework and networking made easy within a distributed network of experts, peers and other stakeholders to realize their potential at the workplace in Turkey.
To achieve this goal, we built an agile and social learning and sharing digital network- a trusted space where:
- Individuals who would like to share and learn from each other can discover networks, others, relevant content, free opportunities and role models.
- Experts and knowledge knows share their industry, competency or life tips in a fast and easy way- from Turkey and abroad- everyone is change maker.
- The user experience links content and/or network between experts and learners to make the decision making process faster and more meaningful.
As of now, our output is 1 digital platform, 12k users, 50+ knowledge notes and interactions in the network.
Our desired outcome is for our users to become sharers/experts/role models, and to continue to build networks leveraging our digital platform.
- Women & Girls

We have 12 thousand users at BinYaprak. Our digital channels reach more people: 30K @YouTube; 37K at Facebook; 16K at Instagram.
At the end of 2020, our target is to reach 20K. By 2025, our goal is to have realized our theory of change and reach 1MM users.
Right now, we measure our impact through success stories we collect from our community.
We have designed impact metrics as outlined below. Introducing simple gamification elements, we plan to get our updated service live by Fall 2020.
During service onboarding, we will ask users to set goals. Some of the data below can be directly observed- the number of connections in the network. Others are to be compiled by online surveys.
Mood change-does she feel more confident?
Skills: Did her self efficacy rating change?
Growth of future orientation: Did she set goals? Did she achieve her goals?
Social Map: Did she make new connections or learn from others?

Our service is digital and easy to scale.
Our second milestone is to introduce a smart, learning matching algorithm for our community for more efficient network or content discovery. We are working with the Solvoyo team, an amazing supply chain optimization company, and an academic team towards this goal.
We need funds to build our technology and team capabilities to be able to offer personalized journeys to our users and intelligent recommendations.
We believe culturally and timing wise- Turkey and the world is ready to get more women and girls empowered!
We also need funding to market our service for a short sprint to reach a critical mass of users. To date we spent no money in marketing.
We would love to partner with technology companies. Winning the prize or another source of funding will accelerate our progress. We welcome investment or grants with equal enthusiasm if it connects us to amazing minds and hearts.
