Mobihealth International
Our commitment is to break barriers to quality healthcare in developing countries using technology to reach underserved communities. With Telemedicine, we provide women and children timely access to quality healthcare services through our fully integrated digital platform on mobile phones and onsite Telehealth clinics.
Like in many things, technology has a multiplier effect on efforts made to reach people that would have been marginalised by gender, socioeconomic, geographical factors. Doing this on a global scale would push the world far along in reaching our joint goal of health for all.
Our goal is simple, leverage the widespread use of mobile phones, to provide access to world standard health professionals in urban and semi urban areas.
Actively push in to reach people in rural communities who don't have access to digital devices by setting up onsite Telehealth Clinics that are integrated with existing health systems to provide synergistic positive health outcomes.
Globally, the MMR is 211 maternal deaths per 100000 live births with about 810 women dying daily due to pregnancy and childbirth related conditions. About 95% of these deaths occur in developing countries with MMR values as high as 814 to 1360.
To the average woman/adolescent girl in these regions, these statistics pose a threat to her continued existence or at best, her enjoyment of a positive pregnancy outcome.
Closely related, about 4.1 million infants die yearly. Global infant mortality rate is 29 and 51, in Africa, per 1000 live births.
The case is that these deaths are preventable. A study done in sub-saharan Africa shows that access to quality Antenatal Care can reduce MMR by up to 39% and prompt primary healthcare access improves childhood survival.
The barriers range from uneven distribution of health care personnel, socioeconomic, gender and geographical barriers.
Mobihealth strives to make changes by improving access to primary healthcare for women and children. We help connect people living in rural Africa, to our global network of board-certified healthcare professionals with technology. Consultations, treatments, and aftercare are accessed in an efficient and cost-effective way through smartphones and solar & Satcom powered telehealth clinics.
The Mobihealth Consult platform is a General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act(HIPAA) compliant video-conferencing and Electronic Medical Record software accessible through smartphones/computer, giving patients access to our global network of board-certified health professionals.
Two pronged approach:
Mobile app: downloadable from app stores(Google/iOS).
Telehealth Clinics: For those without Smart phones or internet connectivity in rural areas, provision of solar-powered and Satcom-enabled prefabricated mobile clinics, well-equipped with computers, physical exam and PoCT equipment, and well-trained personnel with a mini-pharmacy, a basic laboratory and radiological investigations.
The clinics can be integrated within existing primary healthcare centres and as stand alone where such aren't available.
Through these we will build beneficial client relationships where women are empowered to make informed choices on their health and children's.
Our Core Product & Services would include:
Consultations = Mobile app/Telehealth clinics

From our work and research in Nigeria, we found that, religious and cultural influences restrict women and girls access to certain health care provisions especially in northern states. Other reasons include financial limitations, distance and autonomy to make decisions. We seek to provide care and break this barriers.
We will cater and dedicate resources to provide a holistic healthcare plan specific to women and girls in areas of family planning, maternity, childcare, mental and psychological care, prevention and treatment of childhood diseases, and overall well being, in all phases of their lives. Trust and confidentiality is important to establishing a good doctor-patient relationship, especially when it involves women.
With proper maternal care and education, factors that lead to preterm delivery, delivery of neonates low-birth weight, neonatal tetanus and diseases can be highly mitigated. Mobihealth also creates a safe haven for young girls and women to access quality health services including victims of sexual abuse and teenagers. With these factors in mind, we will avail sufficient female physicians and specialists to attend to women and young girls, to reduce communication and gender barriers. We are a learning organisation with feedback mechanisms in place to help us adapt and serve our communities better
- Expand access to high-quality, affordable care for women, new mothers, and newborns
. Mobihealth is gunning for the African community where a disproportionate number of women and children die from preventable causes with the aim of gradually improving indices of maternal and childhood survival in the long haul by expanding access to quality healthcare leveraging technology
- Pilot: An organization deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community
- A new business model or process
Traditional health systems require physical person consultations which puts strain on the inadequate health workforce in Africa with doctor to patient ratio of 1:25000. Having foresight, our model was developed 3 years prior to the COVID 19 Pandemic which now accentuates the need for virtual health more than ever.
This solution is well suited for the African region which has over 60% of its population as young people and though lagging behind in internet penetration at about 39.8%, has one of the largest potential for exponential adoption of technology.
With these in mind, our platform offers an integrated digital health service; e-consultations through video conferencing, e-prescriptions, access to quality medications, access to diagnostics, home care, specialist referrals and integration to existing health insurance Schemes.
There are a number of other digital health providers in the African terrain like Babyl Health which uses USSD codes and phone calls for consultations with access to partner pharmacies, Dokita24/7 provides remote prescription and access to partner pharmacies and MyDoctor.PK offers home care and delivery of medications, it doesn't offer access to laboratory or radiological investigations.
Our uniqueness therefore stands in our ability to offer these services in an integrated system
The Mobihealth consult platform is a HIPPA and GDPR compliant Electronic Medical Record and Video Conferencing software accessible through phones/devices and computers. Consultation can be done through the Web app on app.mobihealthinternational.com or through the Mobihealth Consult Mobile app downloadable from the iOS and Google App stores.
Our application uses a web technology stack of Asp.net MVC 5, .Net Framework 4.7, SQL Server 2012 and Android Java and iOS swift 4.0 for the mobile application versions. It is also integrated with PoCT devices to take vital signs of patients. It allows the doctor to virtually see the patient vitals and medical history. The platform is hosted on Microsoft Azure on cloud with layers of security measures in place to ensure patient records are not vulnerable to unauthorized access. Our database can only be accessed within the firewall which uses the Sha-256 algorithm to encrypt the database. App communication with the database is within the firewall and communication with the database is encrypted. All user roles and access levels are clearly defined in maintaining safe and secure record keeping.
In the wake of the pandemic, our platform has provided access to people in the community who could not access their traditional health providers. Both COVID and non-COVID medical conditions. We provided free online screening for COVID and partnered with the leading research institute in Nigeria, NIMR, for DIY COVID 19 home testing. We partnered with public hospital in Northern Nigeria to reduce the strain on overwhelmed medical personnel by setting up telehealth clinics to help with the workload.

Telemedicine is a relatively new concept in the African context and even globally it has not been widely adopted. And this creates gaps in terms of:
National policies and guidelines on digital health
Cultural perception
Technical expertise
Policies and guidelines: support governments in creation of policies through ongoing research and collaboration with other stakeholders in the digital health field.
Cultural perception: solving problems and breaking barriers presented by the traditional health system and active marketing.
Technical Expertise: capacity building and training of health care and supportive staff.
