MobyCare
MobyCare is a mobile app that expands access to maternal and newborn care by lowering barriers of distance and time to seeking care and also overcome the lack of knowledge, experience and misinformations that spreads in the communities about pregnancy and neonatal care. This will take form as an application that provides users with information about pregnancy and neonatal care. On the other hand, the healthcare workers that are involved can monitor the patient's health status by the user input in individual periodic monitoring feature on apps and integrated medical records while doing consultation.
With this app, a more efficient system between patient (mother/family), healthcare workers, and the health facility in order to get a healthy pregnancy and maximizing the chance to raise the baby potential will be created.
As a developing country with lower-middle-income, Indonesia ranks the top 50 countries worldwide with a high Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR). According to data from the world bank in the year 2017, 177 women's deaths per 100.000 live births in Indonesia. Inequality health remains large across countries became a reason why there was a significant difference of MMR worldwide.
Women who die during and following pregnancy and childbirth are mostly caused due to complications. Most of these complications develop during pregnancy and are also preventable and treatable. Although, maybe other complications existed before pregnancy and getting worsened during pregnancy, especially if not managed as part of pregnancy care.
Currently, there are many informations that circulated in the community. The misinformations that spreads between communities about pregnancy and newborn care is one of the other additional issues that is happening in Indonesia right now. As addition, the lack of knowledge and experience in young couples thus lead to lack of awareness of their situation will complete this problem.
From those main problems and other related problems, we want to expand the access to high-quality, affordable care for women, new mothers and newborns.
Our solution, Mobycare, is a mobile app that has 2 versions:
A. Pregnant and newborn mother & family
Every user has their own logbook that contain their health data and could be integrated with their medical record if they want it (but we recommend this) .
1. Pregnant features

- Alert and emergency to call ambulance from nearby health facility
- Monitoring, visit & vaccine reminder and consulting it online with the healthcare workers (doctor, nutritionist, etc).
- Online hospital and medical clinic booking for several pregnancy checkup & doctor appointment
2. Newborn baby mother features will have some addition like
- Provide some common problems on newborn and how to overcome it.
- A psychotherapy consultation in case to overcome the baby blues and mental health issue
- Various articles to help mothers adapt to new life as mother
3. Family features
The data will be synchronized with their partner & families
B. Healthcare workers features

- Doing online consultation that specialized with their own job
The primary target for mobycare is pregnant women and newborn baby mother who are located far from health facilities (anyone outside the urban and suburban area) and who might be busy with their rutinities, by providing online . Moreover in this pandemic situation, it might be unsafe for them to go out.
Furthermore, mobycare not only impacts the targeted communities but may reach a wider audience. Anyone in need of pregnancy and postpartum care can use this app, whether it is the user itself or their family, everyone can access this mobile app as interlinked account to make sure their relative's pregnancy journey is safe.
- Expand access to high-quality, affordable care for women, new mothers, and newborns
High Maternal Mortality Rate in Indonesia is still one of the biggest problem, women who die during and following pregnancy and childbirth are mostly caused due to complications which are treatable & preventable. Unreliable information that is spread in the community, expensive health service costs, and unevenly-spread health facilities are the biggest barrier to solve this problem. MobyCare will provide trustworthy evidence based pregnancy education through articles, affordable online healthcare service with doctor, nutritionist, psychotherapist, and periodic intensive health monitoring by doctor for pregnant mothers and newborns to ensure healthy pregnancy & childbirth along with professional mental support for mothers.
- Prototype: A venture or organization building and testing its product, service, or business model
- A new application of an existing technology
MobyCare main services offer long-range healthcare support for pregnant women and a newborn baby mother, it also allows them to seek information and advice regarding their pregnancy through their private doctor, pregnancy article, and medical record. MobyCare will also provide pregnancy and postnatal health monitoring services for mother and newborn infants, this service will be guided directly by the assigned doctor, so the mother can have private consultation without hesitation and the doctor can make sure everything is fine with their patient. Furthermore, Moby Care also provides online real-time nutritional and psychological consultation with experts, thus nutritional & psychological problems can be addressed in the nick of time. Our platform also encourages family members of pregnant women and newborn baby mothers to take part in their relative’s pregnancy safety through linked multi-account emergency services.
The core component of our solution will be the use of mobile phone application, a MobyCare application, We intend to ensure that all the registered pregnant mothers are provided with user-friendly mobile phones. We link the patient to a healthcare professional in real-time through a mobile application, do an early medical assessment test to their medical condition during pregnancy, newborn baby, and their medical condition after pregnancy. The assessment test results will be processed by the system AI algorithm and the results obtained will be the basis of considerations for doctors to develop appropriate treatments for each different medical condition. Data of this assessment will also be linked to their medical record that can probably contain the mother’s medical condition and illness prior to the pregnancy or they can choose whether not to do so. Our platform will also provide a free-call toll for patient convenience and in case of an emergency situation and automated reminder system for consuming prescribed drugs.
Mobile phones have been widely used nowadays and the idea of telemedicine has been proved to be successful in Indonesia through several mobile applications. Therefore, with Moby Care, we aim to provide healthcare service specifically for pregnant women and newborn baby mothers, thus the service itself can be developed and customized precisely for their needs. Lack of trusted information about pregnancy and newborn baby care in a community can also be addressed by our trusted evidence-based article on our platform. Furthermore, the problem that arises throughout the phase of pregnancy can rarely be addressed early by healthcare professionals because , thus leading to increased maternal mortality rate, with our platform, this problem should be addressed early with their best solution
- Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
- Big Data
- Crowdsourced Service / Social Networks
- Internet of Things
- Software and Mobile Applications
The lack of trusted information and skills in the communities will decrease the pregnancy care quality thus increasing the MMR. The only source we can get a trusted source of the information is from the healthcare workers and practitioners. Unfortunately, this thing might be unreachable for both the middle-lower class family and the family in non urban and suburban areas due to the lack of healthcare facilities and workers.
With using mobycare that takes for as a mobile app, we can reach a large audience and area in an aim to expand the information from trusted sources to anyone who needs it. In addition, users can do online consultation through the app. Besides, the user can learn more with their condition to improve their knowledge This app can be used not only for the mother but also their partner can take part in this app. A good understanding from both parents is needed to provide a good environment for the baby. Not only that, the healthcare workers such as doctors and pharmacists can get a more complete medical care of the mother that leads to a more efficient healthcare system and better decision for the care plan.
In a short term range, the output of our innovation will help the couple to get easier access to these pregnancy and newborn care. Obviously, it will save their time and money with increased quality of life.
In a longer term range and wider area, mobycare will reduce the MMR and so increase the newborn quality of life. Moreover, Indonesia has roughly 107 million mobile phone internet users in 2019 with a user penetration rate in Indonesia at 36% in 2018 will make this app have a high chance to be reachable. With this seemingly slow change, hopefully it will build a better generation than before and leads to a better life and healthcare system.

Every woman in the world has the same right to a healthy life, no matter who and where she is. But in reality, there are hundreds of thousand women deaths due to the health problems that can be prevented. Maternal mortality is one of them. This is evidenced by the high of the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), especially in countries with low-middle income like Indonesia. The lack of knowledge about the importance of pregnancy care and uneven access to healthcare facilities is a big problem that must be solved immediately. MobyCare was created to present solutions to solving these problems. We educate women about the importance of maintaining mother and baby health. We help them to monitor their health during pregnancy and following postpartum. As a mobile platform, we make access to healthcare facilities and professional health workers easier. We hope that MobyCare can help to improve women’s health and reduce the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR). The Innovation for Women Prize will help us to develop and optimize MobyCare. Therefore, we also want to provide services for all women from various backgrounds, such as women from low-middle income families. So, many women can use MobyCare to monitor their health and also feel the benefits and impacts of MobyCare.
Health is a fundamental condition to ensure development processes since physical well-being is essential to promote social community cohesion and work capacity. However, serious health gaps remain in rural poor areas due to the lack of technical and trained human resources, as shown by the high rates of maternal and neonatal mortality. Nowadays there are many service that can be delivered online, MobyCare bring it to the reality for women and newborns by providing them with healthcare support directly from health & medical expert. Encourage an interconnected community of women and inter-professional healthcare experts through services and communications. Technical consideration for online platforms would give both users and healthcare experts as our partner an advantages. MobyCare will provide users with affordable pregnancy related healthcare online services right on their palms of hand, on the other hand, healthcare experts get additional income even if they are at home from online consultation and/or health monitoring services. MobyCare also encourage hospitals and local medical clinics to increase their awareness toward pregnancy and childbirth complications through our emergency services.
As an application based on Android and iOS, MobyCare collects a lot of data about the health of its users that can be used by doctors to determine the right treatment for users who have a history of congenital diseases and risk factors for complications of pregnancy and childbirth. In further development, MobyCare will use a comprehensive health assessment test for users when first registered, the results will be combined with prior medical records and other pregnancy test data, then processed using AI that can display possible complications of pregnancy, childbirth and even genetic diseases in the fetus. We also planned an AI-based enhanced reminder to personalize educational material, vaccination schedules, prescribed drug consumption, and certain pregnancy health tests based on each trimester of pregnancy and the user's health condition.
An essential strategy to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality is to improve pregnancy monitoring to anticipate obstetric complications, inter-professional healthcare collaboration addressing wide unexpected problems and approach the delivery safely. MobyCare will be first launched and provide its service in Indonesia, a country where the majority of the population has a low to middle income. to assist operations and resources, we will collaborate and coordinate with the public health sector such as public hospitals and clinics that are willing to be referred to online checkup reservations, Obstetricians appointments, and emergencies for pregnancy & childbirth complications
