MOMIND
Every day, 38 mothers in Indonesia die as a result of compilation of pre-natal illnesses and late/unfavorable medical treatment. Moreover, access to antenatal care in remote areas is still hampered by economic, cultural belives and infrastructure conditions. It makes pregnant women who have these limitations only rely on self-services without consultation with skilled medical personnel. Therefore, prevention steps need to be taken to reduce the maternal mortality rate.
MOMIND is an application for pregnant women that makes antenatal care more accessible and practical. This application has 3 functions, namely: (1) Enhanching knowledge, (2) Online Consultation, (3) Monitoring the health of pregnant women, (4) Mapping nearest health facility and blood transfusion unit. With MOMIND, pregnant women who have limitations for regular consultations to health facilities can access these services on their mobile phones.
The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia in 2018 reaches 305 per 100,000 mothers. This figure is still above the number recommended by WHO, which is 70 per 100,000 population. According to WHO, maternal deaths are caused by women dying from complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Some of these complications develop during pregnancy and can be prevented or treated. Other complications appear before pregnancy but get worse during pregnancy, especially if there is no routine pregnancy control.
To prevent this problem, access to good health facilities during pre-natal and childbirth is needed. But there are obstacles that make it difficult for pregnant women to access these facilities, including poverty, distance to health facilities, lack of information, and cultural believes.
Momind is a mobile app for pregnant mom especially Indonesia. It can locate where’s the nearest hospital, give alert to medical staff and safe mom and her baby’s life.
Momind is focused on the east part of Indonesia based on the fact that the highest maternal mortality ratio (MMR) is in Indonesia. With an average in Indonesia of 305 per 100,000 births. This is a WHO concern with a target until 2030 of 70 per 100,000. Until 2019, MMR was recorded to be very high, reaching the same level in 2015. However, the Mobile app was chosen because the use of the internet in Indonesia experienced an increase of 64,8% of the total population using the internet. This is considered effective in providing information and avoiding mistakes in pre natal.
There are various factor that causes maternal death problems that cannot be separated from pregnancy and childbirth problem. These factors that can influence such as antenatal checkup (pregnancy period), readiness to get pregnant, delivery assistance and care immediately about delivery and social culture. (E. Kristi Poerwandari and Yenina Akmal, 2000: 436).
Momind is present for all mothers in Indonesia who do not have access to information and are far from the reach of health facilities. Both the mother in the pregnancy program, during pregnancy, the mother in preparation for childbirth.
The number of pregnant women in Indonesia is around 5,291,143 people with 5,050,637 mothers giving birth in 2018. MOMIND also has a big influence with internet users in Indonesia with 64% (175.400.000 Users) in 2020.
Gap of service and education for pregnant women
The service gap due to poverty, culture and belief, and lack of education are obstacles that occur in pregnant women. Access to health and information services is what pregnant women need. Therefore, using the application and the internet, we can ensure health services and monitor maternal and infant health including counselling directly from the government with video screenings or direct consultations to the medical team.
- Expand access to high-quality, affordable care for women, new mothers, and newborns
- Concept: An idea being explored for its feasibility to build a product, service, or business model based on that idea
- A new application of an existing technology
So far, applications for pregnant women are still limited to recording fetal development independently. There are no features that specifically connect pregnant women with doctors or health facilities. This application is equipped with an electronic report to make it easier for doctors to control fetal development and a live chat feature that makes it easy for pregnant women to consult online.
There are two main technologies used in this application, namely electronic reports and live chat. In MOMIND, there is a feature that can record all activities that a pregnant woman does and the development of her baby during pregnancy. This will make it easier for doctors who will control the pregnancy of the mother to see her activities before pregnancy control. The doctor can also save the report into this feature, making it easier for mothers who want to change doctors to see medical records from previous doctors
Live chat feature can connect pregnant women with obstetricians to be able to consult online either via text, voice message, or video call. This technology is useful for pregnant women who do not have access / opportunities to the nearest hospital to have a consultation to the obstetrician

When seen from the data, pregnant women can be reached around 5,283,165 and the number of women giving birth to 5,043,078 in Indonesia in 2018 and until 2020 has the possibility of increasing.
Health Facilities
The clinic and hospital will get a direct track record and can directly handle the delivery of pregnant women with a number of 7917 medical clinics with 4643 health centers that work with blood transfusion units in reducing maternal mortality rates.
Momind will later serve approximately 1000 pregnant women in Indonesia with minimum target of increasing 100 women every month.
Momind will make an agreement with existing health centers, clinics and hospitals in Banten in 2020 and will gradually develop in other provinces in Indonesia. Some new agreement will launch within Q1 2021.
•Building an Application Development Team
It is still in the form of an initial concept, it needs development in the field of application teams for MOMIND.
•Cultural believe
There are still many mothers in some remote areas who have more faith in midwifes compared to professional medical personnel.
•Collaboration with health facilities
The obstacle is to invite the cooperation of health facilities for the use of applications in related health facilities. Also familiarize medical personnel using this MOMIND application.
1.Increased list of puskesmas in collaboration with blood transfusion units
Output: The addition of clinics that work with blood transfusion units at least 2 health centers / month so that the maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate decline. The way to collaborate with hospitals in Q4 2020 is 5 health facilities. We are improving to start commercialization in mid-2021. In Q1 2022 the collaboration with Health facilities increased to 10 health facilities / month. in Q3 2022 our initial preparatory funds were allocated to increase the use of applications to around 65 hospitals.
2. Dissemination to doctors and pregnant women
Output: Dissemination of applications use to doctors and pregnant women and fetuses. So that later operational standards are made for this application. At the beginning of the application the application is targeted around 1000 pregnant women in the Banten area in 5 Health facilities. After that it will target still in Banten area with an increase of 2000 to 5000 pregnant women spread across 15 hospitals by the end of 2021.
3. Cooperation with the government
Output: Get a partnership with the government will secure the demand and keep the partnership with the local government specifically providing financial assistance for childbirth so that it targets remote areas. This application can be linked to the use of BPJS (government official health insurance) to facilitate payment.
