Rekindle Learning products consist of quality curated education modules and resources for youth on an online platform curated from diverse partners who are subject matter experts. The Rekindle Learning platform will prepare Youth for the future, we will use technology to encourage learning that is curated online and will fosters skills like teamwork, communication and exploration. Currently, there are 621 million youth who are not being educated, employed or trained. Worse, youth unemployment is three times higher than the adult unemployment rate. For those who manage to get a job, 1 in 4 young people can’t find work for more than $1.25 a day. Africa has the youngest population in the world, the highest literacy gap between males and females, is also found in the region. It also has the highest rate of unemployment amongst the youth, globally. Sub Saharan Africa region revealed that in 2010, Botswana had the highest literacy rate (for females) at 100% while Niger had the lowest at 27%. As we work to meet the rising aspirations of young people across the world, we consider education as one of the driving tools. In Africa the population is 1.2 billion, 226 million smart phones were connected to the internet in 2015. As more people are connected to the internet, aspirations (which are linked to opportunity) will continue to rise. Preparing the youth with the relevant skills attained through education and training will help us create dynamism and inclusive, sustainable economic growth. The greatest benefit to the society will be in the adoption to ICT intensive jobs. This will enable the majority of the youth to be adaptive to digital design, creation and engineering and build a pipeline of future skills. Enabling the society to be more knowledgeable at their convenience enabling the communities to benefit.
The problem is lack of exposure to online learning resource platform where youth go for guidance in terms of skills and knowledge information. I attended a government public school for primary in Nairobi which was in an urban area and a Catholic girl’s high school in the rural area. My experiences in these two schools with different settings enabled me to understand what advantages in terms of opportunities and information youth who schooled in urban cities got versus the youth who studied upcountry. Most youth do not know how to leverage on the internet for education and opportunities available online.
My current role consulting for Googles Digital Skills Africa program as the Online Engagement Manager for the DSA program. My role involves getting all the necessary free online resources in one platform. What is taught in institutions can be obtained from a quick Google search and an Excel spread sheet. In the 4th Industrial Revolution most jobs will be automated in the next 20 years. The Rekindle Learning platform will prepare Youth specially for that future, we will use technology to encourage learning that is curated online and will foster skills like teamwork, communication and exploration of technology.
The online training relies on a platform that has online or offline capabilities once downloaded. The product is novel as it enables youth to learn at a once off subscription fee to learn on mobile, web or tablet devices at their own convenience. Rekindle Learning will raise social capital and collaborative posture of the youth skills through Social platforms on the African Continent. This will be a very reasonable fee for getting educated and upskilling their knowledge and skills. The youth will find out about the products through promoted posts on online web based, social platforms, and partnership organisations.

The Rekindle Learning technology platform will drive youth to be open minded regarding learning new digital concepts that can be applicable and beneficial to enabling skills development and promote educational knowledge in relation to digital commerce technology applications and careers. Infrastructure factors will limit the solution succeeding in some regions especially the rural areas some of these will include costs in terms of data and device costs, no access to the internet, costly data of networks available in the region and lack of the appropriate devices which will be smart phones of 3G and 4G enabled devices to be used by the participants. The last factor will be preference of participants using our main competitors’ products which are all the existing educational platforms that offer the same information for free. All they will need are devices and invest data costs
