Cuatro Tribus: Collective Estrategies
1. After a great amount of research we have found that one important problem communities face is the lack of strategic self-organization.
2. My solution is a game-based learning system with progressive phases in which the community eventually develops the skill to create their own solutions to problems with multiple variables.
3. Through the progressive phases of the learning process there is a potential to grow a strong consciousness about power and conflict. Facilitating that communities embrace social dynamics of collaboration and competition. Enhancing long-term relationships of growth and understanding between its members. The people who have acquired the knowledge have the mission to teach others, this is the essence of a sustainable replication model.
The game itself teaches its players how to develop social strategies that enhance their lives.
Economists have researched the effects of the lack or presence of organization in communities. Evidence suggest that this problem is more clearly observed in the south of Mexico. The essence of the problem is observed to be the same in the centre of America and the Caribbean, with the exception of Cuba.
The problem is systematic, and the culture itself has favoured short-term problem solvers and there is limited evidence on trainings of strategic long-term decision-making. Estimations of how many people are struggling because of this is very uncertain, since there isn't enough data. Our observations however, imply most communities in southern Mexico.
Our solution has spotted that there is a limited access to strategical training and strategic game clubs (such as chess, GO, etc.) as a cultural constant. The culture favours opportunistic decision-making over long-term commitments. This has a profound effect on how people relate to each other and to the community. Lastly, the educational system favours concept acquisition instead of skill acquisition.
It has been tested that by developing these kind of strategic game clubs with highshool and middle school teenagers the emergence of leaders that expand the use of the game triggers a sustainable expansion.
We work through workshops and different training sessions.
The game develops of itself by its ludic nature, the social skills of organization that people lack.
4 Tribus is a game based project that develops social strategic skills.
The solution we pitch includes:
General public licence of the board game, training on the game, and workshops teaching the meaning and use of 4-Tribus as a pedagogic tool.
Materials and Process:
A common licence print/play board game.
Qualified staff and workshop sessions.
- Deploy new and alternative learning models that broaden pathways for employment and teach entrepreneurial, technical, language, and soft skills
- Support and build the capacity of formal and informal educators to better prepare Latin American and Caribbean learners of all ages for the jobs of today and tomorrow
- Growth
Game includes the best features of strategic thinking similar to that of Chess, Go, within the Latin American Context.
The project offers a common licence to use the game, a consistent model of a train the trainer program, and quick development of skills that help the people develop problem solving of conflict and power struggles.
The model simulates situations that require a consistent, long term goal oriented social organization.
Activities: Workshops that teach how to play the game, tournament of players.
Output: Diagnosis and development of strategic social and emotional skills.
Short Term Outcomes: Improvement of strategic thinking, bargaining and negotiation skills.
Long term Outcomes:Restore social fabric that favour the skills necessary to develop sustainable long learning communities.

The Cuatro-Tribus model seeks a sustainable impact that improves awareness of social dynamics and collective strategies among people that need better self-organization to reach long term goals and prosperity.
The main goal at this moment is to extend, and replicate the model so that it can reach a greater number of people in developing communities.
Cultural: There is a low disposition to assimilate the use of games as a serious mean to foster strategic thinking.
Financial: The project has not had enough funding for it to strive yet.
Market: This is not a high consuming society of board games.
Cultural: We currently partner with schools and local districts to develop the board game strategic culture. The plan is to increase the reach of the project to more schools and districts.
Financial: Current situation has put additional stress on the project. We expect the decision to turn the property rights of the game to common license and low cost production to help replicate the model in a greater number of communities. Seek for sponsors.
Market: Take advantage of the recent emergence of board game trends.
- I am planning to expand my solution to Latin America/Caribbean
Teenagers have a strong tendency to pursue their consolidation of identity and their place within a group. Focusing the product to teenagers in highschool, training programs, the organization of tournaments and prizes. This starts generating identity around the project, the game, and the players. This itself contributes to the restoration of the social fabric in the community.

Replication of the game in different social clusters. The transferrable skills benefit the members of the community in their pursuits of projects that the community needs to generate prosperity.
The Revenue of this Organization comes from the workshops and certification of future trainers.
Project has been sustainable during the past 14 years through various sources of clients and grants. But it hasn't been able to generate enough profit to grow.
