Generation Origami
- Pre-Seed
Bring senior citizens and high school students together for training in fundamental origami skills, and then equip them with the supports necessary to work together to teach origami to elementary school students in their community.
1. Bring seniors and adolescents together to mentor young children in fundamental origami skills.
2. Adolescents will become skilled at origami while learning vocational readiness skills and collaborating with an elder to provide leadership and training to young children.
3. Intergenerational efforts can bring communities closer together across the world.
There are few opportunities for adolescents to gain vocational readiness skills, let alone leadership roles within their community. Generation Origami is a low cost, cognitively stimulating, creative and functional solution. Adolescents benefit from meeting civic minded elders and serving as mentors to the young children in their communities, while gaining vocational readiness experience.
Vocational readiness is dependent on an opportunity to work hands on under the guidance of a dedicated mentor. Generation Origami provides extensive training as well as the opportunity to serve as a leader in the community.
Teenagers will gain leadership experience and vocational readiness skills by engaging in a cross generational effort to teach basic origami skills.

It is an art form that welcomes people of all races, religions, sexual orientations, gender identities, political parties, and family status. Origami is also an ageless form of art, appropriate for young children, as well as teenagers, adults, and seniors.
Initially success will rely on hands on outreach to senior centers, high schools and elementary schools. It will be affordable because the program will be dependent on volunteers and the only material cost is for paper.

I would like to address mental health concerns and cognitive development through an intergenerational effort to learn and teach fundamental origami skills. I would like Solve's assistance to help me form a highly functioning non-profit that spreads the joy of origami to people around the world.
I have no business partners but my son is very gifted at origami and I have some connections through the MIT origami club and origami USA.
