Strategic Intern & Apprentice Programs
- Pre-Seed
People learn through observation & experiences. So why is it that people go through years of education before ever starting a job? Our programs allow students to "try out" jobs they've never considered, then grow in to employment.
We have a workforce dev problem. The hiring process is littered with socioeconomic bias, beginning with college entry (are you going to college?), college pedigree (more expensive schools are considered "better), and first job placement (larger companies tend to recruit from "better" schools), hence, students from wealthier families tend to start their career at good companies with structured intern/ on-boarding programs and higher salaries. Better on-boarding programs result in more successful employees and higher retention rates. Then when being recruited for their next company, the recruiter looks at your prior company pedigree and judges that, so the socioeconomic disparities continue. Further, students are required to go through all this education, including choosing a major, without ever stepping foot in the job function itself. This leads to students choosing jobs their parents do (not training for the Future jobs/ workforce) and continues the socioeconomic divide. The Savvy Hires solution has 3 components:
Workforce Experience - kids can participate in job shadow. They'll learn about jobs and industries they didn't know existed (especially if their parents work in lower-level jobs).
Intern Programs - allow companies and students try each other out prior to committing to FT employment. Programs are focused on training, development and cultural integration.
Apprentice Programs - programs designed for on-the-job training, cultural integration, and overall development. These programs ensure entry-level Apprentices are supported during their first year of employment. As these will also focus on soft-skill development (managing workplace conflict, connecting through communication, etc.), students from low-income backgrounds who may not have the social wherewithal to achieve office politic success can now have that support.
Scale - Programs are turn-key solutions that can be customized. By exposing students from all backgrounds to career opportunities, then providing pathways to success, we can ensure a supported, talented, and diverse future workforce.
Kids get information from their family. So when you are from a low-income family where your parents aren't exposed to many different types of careers, or your future job hasn't even been invented yet, it's hard to figure out what you want to do & how to get there. Utilizing Intern, Apprentice, and Workforce Experience programs, students can "try out" jobs that may be of interest, and determine the education path that can help them achieve that career. The result is a team of engaged, loyal employees doing jobs that are financially stable and suit their career potential.
Savvy Hires has already begun applying Strategic Intern & Apprentice Programs to a variety of businesses and populations. Currently, we are working with the Autistic population. Did you know that 90% of people on the Autism spectrum are unemployed or underemployed? We believe that number is so high because of the barriers that exist in the hiring process. We are currently working with the Bridges Program at Adelphi University, Northwell Health (largest employer in NYS) and Enterprise Holdings to break down those barriers to employment through their Intern programs, and currently have 7 college interns in their programs.
Students & Employers will benefit from our programs. Employers can recruit and nurture a talented home-grown workforce who have a desire to work in that specific field/ industry. Students have opportunity to enter fields/ industries they otherwise would not have been exposed to. We also apply our programs to autism populations and women/ caregivers returning to work, as well.

It's all about tech. Tech companies, tech education, STEM, STEM, STEM. But people are what makes a company successful. Google is a success bc Laszlo Bock created a culture people want to join. And people are as successful as the opportunities that exist in their world, and what they can create for the future. That starts with exposure and hands-on education.
Our turn-key programs are designed to create the human element in the workforce. Ensuring employees are assessed on their potential, nurtured in development, and supported throughout on-boarding. That is what creates great company culture and promotes innovation.
Students do not pay for our services. School districts can purchase Workforce Experience Programs and Employers pay for Intern and Apprentice Programs (training grants are available)
