Out of 1000 kg of raw hide, nearly 850 kg is generated as solid wastes in leather processing. Only 150 Kg of the raw material is converted into leather. The wastes are polluting the rivers & environment.  We can convert the tannery waste into electricity. We can produce electricity for the rural areas deprived from proper electricity. In Bangladesh, Dhaleshwari river is being seriously polluted due to the discharge of untreated and partially-treated liquid wastes through surface drainage directly to the river from the central effluent treatment plant (CETP) in the relocated tannery industrial estate in Savar. That news is terrifying because of the pollution caused by these wastes in different rivers in Bangladesh. The riverine country & the people who are dependent on river can be saved by our solution. Also there will be job opportunity in the electricity production department for the people of Bangladesh.

 The operation of the tannery estate in Fulbaria under Savar upazila in so many ways affected the lives of people along the riverbanks down the stream. They can’t sleep well due to a sickening stench. But not so long ago, the Dhaleshwari was a lifeline of the areas. From daily household chores to fishing or farming -- almost everything of their life revolved around the river. It was the main source of water for all, but now those who are affluent have opted for electricity-run pumps, resulting in rise in the monthly expenditure. The tannery waste dumping has brought trouble to over three lakh people of  four unions. They can’t use the water for farming or washing livestock anymore. Their children have been warned not to bathe in the river in fear of water-borne diseases. So the waste problem can be solved by using the waste to produce electricity. So no waste should get into the river & the rural areas deprived of proper electricity can get proper electricity.

The problem can be useful to the local community. The people dependent on river will not be affected by the pollution caused by the river. Also the solution can help the agricultural sector by providing enough electricity in agricultural fields which are deprived of proper electricity. As well as it will be beneficial for rural homes that are deprived of proper electricity. It can be really helpful for the entire community. We could also save the rivers from destruction.

Leather industry occupies a distinct place in the world economy. It needs various chemicals and soften hides. Because of the potential difference there is a way to produce electricity from the waste. This is called microbial fuel cell. The MFC's were constructed from glass(16x16x10 m) . Total volume of each chamber was 1000 l, and working volume was 700 l. Both anode and cathode were separated by a glass, containing hole (6x6 m) on which, a proton exchange membrane was pasted. plain carbon paper (6x6 m) as anode and graphite (6x6 m) as cathode were immersed in their respective chambers. The electrodes were attached using 

copper wire with all exposed metal surfaces sealed with a nonconductive epoxy. The anode chamber was filled (600 L) with tanner wastewater and was continuously flushed with N2/CO2 (80:20) to sustain anaerobic conditions. Aerobic cathode chamber was filled with 100mM Phosphate Buffer and pH adjusted to 7.0 by 0.5 N NaOH. The cathode chamber was provided with air that was passed through a 0.45m pore size filter.

This is the first work done in Bangladesh. These wastes are polluting our rivers. So the use of these wastes to produce electricity is a new concept in Bangladesh. This cell has the potential to run machine in industry. So this will be helpful to use this concept.

The problem is long lasting because the change in the waste management led to energy efficiency by producing electricity to make the self-sustaining industries. Also it can control the pollution from hazardous materials that can save the life of many people beside the river.

If we can implement this we can serve 1000 homes and agricultural fields in rural area.

After 5 years  we can serve 8-10000 homes and agricultural fields in rural areas.

Our first goal is to save our river and gain transformational impact on millions of people in our country. Our second goal is to provide electricity to those rural areas of Bangladesh which are deprived of proper electricity.

The problem basically is diversity of our formula. It is only compatible for tannery waste only. So we have to be dependent on that waste. It is also in conceptual stage. So electricity production is limited and should be served lowest amount of houses.

We have financial barrier as our installation cost is almost 100000-150000 dollar.

To overcoming this barrear we will have a r&d sector for research. Also we have to modify it for greater production and it will be appreciable with the competition to other electricity producing methods as a green source of energy and usages of the waste.

The tannery waste has no scrap value. So, here we are offering them an environment friendly solution in industrial base which will both reduce their water pollution and cost.

Microbial fuel cell is cheap in installation and totally environment friendly. The tannery industries can produce the effluent and then we can use the effluent in the plant to produce electricity. In our business we are providing the microbial fuel cell equipment’s, installation and 24/7 maintenance services. It takes less than 2 months of installation and can be given 2MW electricity per month to 1000 houses. Major differences between solar panel and microbial fuel cell are solar panel is costly and not feasible in bad weather while microbial fuel cell is cost friendly and can be operated in any weather.

Although we are not directly connected to the mass consumer. So our marketing is similar to B2C (Business to house) policy. We will buy tannery waste for cheap rate and then we will produce electricity in our plant and then supply them in rural areas. The break even point should be gain after 7 years.
