Scan SeavPhov (Scan Khmer Book)
- Pre-Seed
Scan SeavPhov is an app that scans colorless pictures in Cambodian official high school student books then links to Internet resources (such as image, video and 3D model). Thus, students will get the chance to see the actual thing that they are reading or studying about.

All high school students, not only in Cambodia but also in Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, never get the chance to see what they are studying about outside of their books. All they see is just colorless pictures from their student books which is completely abstract for students. This is the main reason why most students hate reading book, listening to teacher or studying as there is nothing to attract their interests to study. It is important for students to be curious and feel the connection with what they are learning so their memories of lessons can stay strong and last longer.
We take the psychology of how brain works into account. The average salary of high school teacher in Cambodia is approximately 200$ per months; thus, they’re lacked in motivation and resource to put into their teachings. Moreover, some teachers are English illiterates and they have no idea on the psychology of how brain receives informations effectively. Nowadays, teacher is struggling to attract students’ attentions to learn and students are dying looking for something fun and interesting to engage with. Our app is the perfect solution for that. We hope Solve can help us revolutionize education system in Cambodia together.

This app will make a big social impact on Cambodia’s education system and keep students from just studying blindly. In high school, all what students have are texts, quizzes and exams. Students never get to see or experiment with what they are studying at all. In our app, On top of allowing the students to see and experience what they are studying, this app will spark student’s curiosity of the lesson; thus, encourage them to engage in self-study and research. Moreover, this concept can also apply to other developing countries as well such as Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar and many more.

We are the first in the market as there is no similar app in Southeast Asia. “Why doesn’t student just use Google, you ask?”. Our app is very easy and simple to use. You just scan the picture and it will pop up the best content on Internet for you. In contrast, Google requires you to search the right keywords then go through hundreds of sites to find the content that you need. We make one step easier to use internet. Also, we introduce students to learn to use the Internet for education which is very important for this century.
Most of students from the countryside barely had any knowledge of how to use internet and English; therefore, they have hard time trying to retrieve information from the world riches source, the Internet. Furthermore, even if they have both knowledge mentioned above, they still have difficulty trying to search for information. Cambodian high school books consist of French words which make it hard for students this generation to do research especially when they don’t even know the English keyword to search on Internet in first place. Thus, Cambodian students are isolated from new technology and the rest of the world.
Our app is free to download and works on many different kinds of platforms (IOS, Android, Mac and Windows); thus, everyone with internet connection can easily access our solution.

We want students to use our app for free because we want to make big social impact in our community. Therefore, we have to earn money through sponsorship in our app. Thanks to Impact Hub Phnom Penh for giving us 6 months working space for this app and Ezecom, one of the best Internet provider in Cambodia, for willing to give us 3000$ for first year sponsorship in our app. In addition to that, we also got the interests from many more companies and universities in Phnom Penh as well.
Firstly, Content research is the most important part of our app. We need to find the best and most interesting contents for students to see so that they become interested with the lesson they are learning. Secondly, we need some fund to create educational videos by ourselves as we take psychology into account for each lesson. Thirdly, as we scale, we need to build our own sever. It would be very great if we can get the help from Solve Community

We strongly believe Solve is the perfect partner for us. We will take the advantage of MIT community that Solve has. Since our app is technology and STEM based. MIT community is really great for us as we need people who can help us expand the technology as we growth (as number of user and scan increased) and the STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematic) resources from one of the world best technology university to Cambodia. In addition, business mentorship from Solve is very important for us as we are a startup and initially wanting to solve high school student’s problem.
Impact Hub Phnom Penh and some future potential partners such as Ministry of Education in Cambodia, Ezecom, Liger Learning Center.
Currently, we don't have any competitor in Cambodia. Our idea is original and completely new.
