Upskill a peer-to-peer skill-sharing platform
A peer-to-peer skill sharing platform. It enables individuals and organizations to share skills and exchange technical knowledge to bridge the skill gap in Bangladesh. Thereby upskill tackles the quality, scalability, and affordability issues of skills acquisition in Bangladesh.
In the past 6 months, Upskill has trained 600+ individuals and paid 10,00,000 taka to trainers who used the platform. It helps learners by curating specialized content and trainers to establish their brands in addition to earning.
Three different education mediums: English, Bangla and Madrassa. Learning outcome is however dampened by wide used rate learning methods across institutions.
Around 4.6 million children of primary school age are not pursuing their education in urban slums and rural areas (UNICEF).
By 10th grade, more than 80% of students receive private tutoring in Bangladesh (CAMPE 2008).
Some argue that tutoring is in fact the main learning modality in higher education in Bangladesh (World Bank 2014).
Public Universities in Urban areas and Public Rural Colleges charge the lowest costs (World Bank 2014).
For such institutions, average costs, at least for tuition and fees were below taka 10000 annually.
Private University system comes at a high financial cost to students.
Tuition fees are typically taka 47500- taka 90000, out of reach for many families (ADB report, Oct 2016)
Among unemployed youth, 62% cited lack of education as the main obstacle to employment, while only a tiny proportion cited lack of available jobs.
Another 16% mentioned lack of training. Together these facts suggest that neither the volume nor the nature of education and training are adequate to the demands of the job market.
Upskill typically sees 60% of young professionals, 20% startup entrepreneurs, and 20% of university students among its learners. Additionally, it is also a platform that offers a unique opportunity to various domain experts and senior professionals to share their skills and monetize on it.
