generationYOU
- Pre-Seed
genYOU focuses on building the key enterprise and employability skills needed for young people to unleash their potential at work.

Whilst technical skills are specific to a particular role or job, employability and enterprise skills transcend that. Having a strong base in areas like networking, emotional intelligence, leadership, problem solving, career management etc will ensure that young people are able to deal with the challenges and changes from the future workforce.
We cannot predict how things will change around the world, but we can help our youth create a strong skills base to thrive in the face of the changing future of work.
The challenge with young people and the workplace is multi-faceted and like work itself, constantly evolving. Our solution relies on the old theory that ‘soft skills will make or break your career’ even more so today, when:
- ‘Jobs of the future, demand enterprise skills, 70% more than jobs of the past’ -FYA
- ‘By 2030, workers will spend 100% more time at work solving problems’ -FYA
- ‘Youth unemployment in developed countries is 4.9% higher than in developing countries’ -ILO
- 'The 15-24 years age group has consistently had the highest unemployment rate... increasing by 6.4% to 17.4% in Nov'16' -ABS
generationYOU has two components - one which is online, and the other live (i.e. in person). This gives the various communities the ability to use each element as it suits, within their constraints.
The live version is be delivered by industry leaders from the respective communities, ensuring that the skills and knowledge passed on is tailored to their individual job environment.
The online content, means that any young person between the ages of 17-24 can benefit from generationYOU. Our role would be to provide the structure, support, systems and processes for the individual communities to run their own programs.
Track the young people attending the program, quantitatively and qualitatively - Launch generationYOU in a community outside Australia
Track the number of sign ups as well as engagement on social if applicable - Simplify & tailor the online component to make it more relevant outside Australia
Tracking both the live and online editions - Enabling one million young people to benefit from generationYOU
- Upper middle income economies (between $3976 and $12275 GNI)
- Lower middle income economies (between $1006 and $3975 GNI)
- Secondary
- Short-cycle tertiary
- Bachelors
- Consumer-facing software (mobile applications, cloud services)
Our solution relies on basic technology as it needs to be accessed by disadvantaged youth who might not be in a position to have the quickest wifi or newest mobiles. Whilst this might not be novel, it works.
We also rely on the oldest form of knowledge exchange - storytelling.
generationYOU is unique because it combines old school methods (teaching & storytelling) to address a new world problem (employability). By empowering the different communities to facilitate the learning, generationYOU is also sustainable, applies to all youth and is relevant across the world.

generationYOU is committed to helping young people to unleash their potential at work, for the benefit of themselves, their employers and their communities.
By strengthening the employability & enterprise skills of young people we are building their confidence and giving them the tools to secure employment or to start their own companies.
Our focus is on developing our future workforce - we take an honest and no filter approach to ensure that our content is clear and beneficial to the young people we are there to inspire!
generationYOU can be access through two main channels - online or in person. Whilst we find that whilst the 'live' editions tend to be more impactful the online component helps to reach those that live in remote areas or could not attend a live session.
Live - the content is delivered by real world 'industry' people e.g. mentors, employers, entrepreneurs who share their stories, knowledge and learnings with the audience.
Online - takes the shape of a curation/interactive learning experience where a different topic is covered each month. Currently delivered through the web, email and Facebook.

generationYOU was set up in 2015 to meet a challenge which we were facing as small business owners (and which we eventually realised everyone faced too) - to help young Australians to unleash their potential at work and in life.
We currently run genYOU in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide plus we just launched an online component. To date, we have helped over 1,300 millennials through the support of over 90 partners and speakers.
Income for genYOU currently comes from two streams - registration fees for participants and partner/sponsorship revenue. This covers all the direct costs of running genYOU, however does not yet cover salaries.
To sustain this we have an event management arm (Bright Conferences) which also focuses on facilitating learning experiences.
Our plan is to keep increasing genYOU revenue whilst sustaining ourselves through Bright Conferences as needed.
From our experience in delivering genYOU, there are a couple of potential stumbling points:
1. Contacts & local knowledge to be able to deploy generationYOU outside Australia. Partnerships with educational institutions and corporates are key to running genYOU.
2. Financial resources (as always!)- though we would want to ensure that any growth is sustainable both from our end and from the community's side too.
3. Depending on the community - access to the live events might be a challenge if its not able to be counteracted by the online portal.
