Mirrorable - Learning while observing
- Pre-Seed
Mirrorable is a platform that allows a new model of rehabilitation therapy at home, specially designed to meet the needs of children who have suffered brain damage at a very early stage of their lives, with motor level impacts.
It all started when our son, Mario, was born and we found he had a perinatal stroke. Here you can find our story shared at TED.

Since then we found that the focus of stroke research has typically been on adults, but incidence among children is widespread: 2-3 newborn every 1000 births. Over 60% of children who survive stroke have permanent neurological deficits.
Actually available rehab programs are mostly ineffective, very expensive and not widely available.
Latest findings on Mirror Neurons and Peer learning are the leading edge in terms of motor skills re-habilitation.
Leading edge technologies like body tracking, emotions management, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality and Cloud are now broadly available.
Mixing these science and technology researches we developed Mirrorable: an interactive platform that allows a new scalable model of rehabilitation therapy at home. Specially designed to meet the needs of children who have suffered brain damage at a very early stage of their lives with motor level impacts, it’s easily scalable to any “normal” kid in terms of motor and cognitive needs
Mirrorable PRO (B2B healthcare solution) as a motor skills online learning solution in healthcare could impact kids that survived stroke and cerebral palsy (3,5 Ml). Deployment consists partnerships with hospitals and re-habilitation centers that can implement an in-hospital + at home standardized and scalable re-habilitation journey of their patients, based on Mirrorable as medical device.
Mirrorable EDU (B2C consumer solution) aims to reach a much broader audience,
as young people in the online motor-related edutainment/connected toys/wellness
spaces (1.1 Bl) and here the approach will be a subscription model with the
platform accessible via standard app stores.

Mirrorable has been developed since the beginning on top of a deeply inclusive design / human centered design principles.

Mirrorable PRO: medical device based on standard PC/Kinect hw + online platform, at very democratic price (we are working on lowering the marginal cost near to zero for young stroke survivors, that's our life mission)
Mirrorable EDU: subscription based online app via Microsoft/Apple store at very democratic price (max 300USD/year, but even here we are working on lowering the marginal cost in order to make it broadly available to every kid)

Our social enterprise operates within a cross-subsidy business model. Our revenues after costs will be invested to make Mirrorable PRO available for free to young stroke survivors. We are targeting primarily, as paying customers with Mirrorable EDU, typical children aged 5-13yo, willing to learn new motor abilities.
Potential of mirror neurons in rehab from motor impairments is well-known in biomedicine, yet very little applied in practice, out of the labs. We will use validated data from our study scale Mirrorable PRO also to adults and orthopedic injured patients that has the potential to pay for it
Mirrorable EDU embodies the values of being scalable, replicable, self-sustainable
Securing funds in/from Italy: overall Italian venture capital are more interested in tomatoes rather than in kid's future for "just" 3.5Ml kids affected by stroke. That's why we developed the cross-subsidy business model with adults and normal kids as target audiences.
Mirrorable PRO: Healthcare system friction to innovation and changes on local legislations in terms of healthcare systems.
Mirrorable EDU: Parent's resistance to technology led learning experiences.

First we had to prove that even kids who suffered a stroke can learn new motor skills. Done.
Second we had to prove that technology can help these kids and their parents in having a better life and avoid social stigma. Done
Now we need to dismount the venture's perceptions that "helping these young stroke survivors" is not a viable business, proving that our model can sustain more brain research and offer the Mirrorable platform for free to every young stroke survivor in the world. We are truly believer on open innovation, that's why we are here to Solve!
