Kenarhat
Once upon a time, Jashore was famous for its date palm jaggary (Khejur Gur), but very soon after 20th century, the jaggary of Jashore lost its goodwill among the customers.
In 2018, Kenarhat prepared a situation analysis to identify the potentiality of Jaggary market in National as well as International market. The situation analysis found that a huge gap between demand & supply and it also found that adulteration is a major cause of concern among the customers.

Kenarhat
Kenarhat identified that juice collectors does not know how to prepare good quality jaggary, i.e. maintaining pH levels, maintaining hygiene, prevention & protection from potential attacks from virus & bacteria, like Nipa virus.
Scientific research suggested that, date palm jaggery can be good alternative white sugar. While white sugar is directly responsible for heart disease as well as cancer, then organic date palm jaggery is a good & safe source of fiber, vitamins & minerals.

Due to lack of proper awareness, technology uses in collecting date palm juice and marketplace, the date palm jaggery production is decaying day by day in Jashore district. But there are huge opportunities to generate revenue if a viable Natural Resource Mobilization can be implemented.
Based on the situation analysis, last year Kenarhat started a national wide project on development of online jaggary marketplace. Through this project, Kenarhat provided a 3 days long training among 60 experienced juice collector on the following topics:
- How to collect juice from the plant maintaining its quality and protect the juice from the attack of virus & bacteria.
- How to make solid & liquid jiggery by maintaining hygiene & pH levels.
Last Year, Kenarhat made agreement with 60 selected farmers. Kenarhat provides training and workshop on date juice manufacture, packaging and others. Kenarhat team strongly observed their activities and processing steps to ensure best quality date palm jaggary (Khejur Gur).
As an outcome of this project, Kenarhat sold over 7,500 Kilograms date palm jaggery across the country. Farmers earned BDT 26,25,000.00 during the last (2018-2019) winter session.

More than 500 village people both directly and indirectly benefited for kenarhat initiative last year.
