Safe Bangladesh
In Bangladesh, a great number of children is living under poverty and widely suffering from physical and emotional abuse. These children growing up in such an environment is a national threat. In addition, it is fueling a vicious cycle of poverty. Safe Bangladesh (SB) is to eradicate child poverty and help breaking down the cycle.
Poor children are those who belong to a poor family- without proper food, education, shelter and healthcare. More acceptably, an educated and cultured family with a minimum economic security is defined as a rich one. We would eliminate child poverty providing their parents with education and employment. In addition, for better upbringing of the Children, we would ensure their parents learn proper parenting.
Creating opportunities for all at once is impossible. We would create leaders who could lead themselves, their families, and the community as a whole. Besides, our business policies could be taken as a test case in reducing income inequality.
In Bangladesh, poverty has many detrimental outcomes for children-hunger, malnutrition, ill-health, limited or no access to education etc. Moreover, in poor families children are growing up with low self-esteem and lack of vision.
Primarily, SB would work in the capital city of dhaka. According to a 2014 census of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, 6.5 lakh people lives in the slums of Dhaka city, among them more than 2 lakh are children. Nearly a decade ago, UNICEF estimated in Bangladesh 33 million children live under poverty.
However, adverse effects of climate change and burgeoning income inequality worsening the situation further. In 2018, natural disaster alone casued 78,000 people to be internally displaced in Bangladesh. The number was higher in 2019, around 1.9 lakh, due to the July floodings.
SB would provide services to the poor parents. Primarily, we would work with parents from families, living in the slums of Dhaka and internally displaced.
I am engaged with some voluntary tasks to increase my self-esteem. Sometimes I talk to street children to help them draw their aim in life. Sometimes go through the slums, talk to parents about better parenting. I have seen, they are eager to have instant financial support but very much unwilling to learn things that could change their fate sustainably.
SB would provide clients with economic safety against future uncertainties, in exchange they join our learning programmes.
In Bangladesh, children are more affected by mental poverty of their parents rather than the materialistic poverty. We initially would strike their mental poverty and then prepare them to have economic return of their skills. A family where parents have their vision, know what values to be practiced at home could never be a poor one.
Actually no children could be poor. We call them poor because of the economic scarcity of their parents. Besides, they also lack a value based education. To eliminate child poverty, we would provide the parents with education and employment. In addition, for better upbringing of the Children, we would ensure their parents learn proper parenting too.
The Organization would consist of three wings:
i) Business,
ii) Training and Development, and
iii) Parenting Research and Service Centre.
The business wing is kind of a financial Institute. It would design products to attract deposit from social high-ups, while disburse loans only to poor parents on emergencies like health care, education and training and development. These loans are at zero interest rate and paid back after the employment of client. Only security agaist the loans is the passion of our clients to learn and change their fate. To generate earnings and employment Business wing design, evaluate, finance, implement investment opportunities. The businesses create employment only for the loan bearers.
Training and Development would be non-profit in nature. Initially, it would design programme to improve interpersonal and life skills of parents. Then it would work on individual career planning of the clients. Finally, it would organize training programmes based on the demand of the business wing. Clients will pay only when they participate a training programme. This wing will operate training programmes only for our clients.
Parenting research and service wing would conduct research and provide services. It would design illiterate friendly learning programmes for our clients. General people could get specialist services with cost, while our clients get it cost free.
The organization would be operated by the CEO advised by a Board of planners. The business has no owner, while organization and employees share profit at a ratio of four to one. Though salaries would vary, profit is to be distributed equally to the employees.
