Connect

Connect is an app that will allow student clubs and groups in both high schools and colleges in China, and across the world to be listed in one app. Connect's goal is to help student clubs exchange ideas and strategies on social changes.

My solution is about connecting students with changes they are trying to bring to their schools and communities. School clubs have a unique purpose in high school, middle school and  college campuses. Clubs are designed for students to be creative. However not all parts of the world as progressive as the west. Students in many parts of the world suffer from lack of knowledge in areas of  mental health disorders. Their schools and communities are not informed enough about mental health  to provide services that would help young people battle their disorders. The app connect will allow students to connect to other student clubs within their own host country or other countries to gain knowledge and insight  on  how to change the stigma of mental health disorders within their own schools and what types of support system can be developed within schools to help students .  For example, some student clubs in China have the platform of speaking to school administration as they are willing to listen to the students. But, students themselves are  often inexperienced and unaware on what they need? How to voice their needs? How to resolve conflicts? How to negotiate ?  These student clubs in China specifically  need mentors, ad knowledge to continue progressing in their causes to raise awareness on mental Heath disorders and other issues. If scaled, students all over the world will have a platform to connect, and share their experiences, give each other insight to bring transformative changes within their communities. 

Mental health and disorders have a stigma in most parts of the world. This problem is visible in middle schools, high schools, and colleges in China. Students in all parts of the world are trying to change its stigma and get communities or school administration to act. So, how do we connect these students so they can help each other? How do we get them mentorships, knowledge, ideas, and creativity in a short amount of time so the issue moves beyond the stigma and on to practical approaches?

According to http://www.chinadaily.com.cn, in 2014, "About 70 percent of Chinese workers diagnosed with depression have taken time off from work because of the illness, and more than half of the depressed employees reported impaired work performance, according to a new survey". These statistics are still incorrect in that the number is higher because mental health illness and disorders is not surveyed or recorded in China. The article further reports that "The survey, the first of its kind in the country, showed 53 percent of employers polled want stronger legislation and government policies to help employees with depression".

The impact of my soultion is worldwide collaboraiton among students communities to solve their biggest challenges and bring positive changes with their communities. It will be deployed to them on their smart phones or computers via chat forums.

Solution is unique beacause its about increasing collaboration globally. It is about uniting young people who are  path makers within their communities . Connects helps them by allowing them space to help  one another face their unique challenges in all different parts of the world

Most schools and communites that need the connect app are underserved. These communites need resources as much as they need to be resourceful. Connect is about cultivating creativity and resilience in most undersrved communities with knowledge and insight.  Connect is  bridging young people with their  ideas and aspirations in one place so they can share their ideas and move forward together . 

Solution will be deployed via schools, social platforms, and forums. It will be accesible to academic communites worldwide.

Financial ability and time to build the app

I am taking advantage of Solve by having experts  minds look over my connect app idea and help me refine by having the idea first piloted in USA hoping that every other  country will be inspired and  allow a connect app in their schools as a means of educating students on bringing social changes.
